LTSP is an add-on package for Linux that allows you to connect lots of low-powered thin client terminals to a Linux server. Applications typically run on the server, and accept input and display their output on the thin client display.
I see, so theSpoke is an MS "community" site where one can find polls like "what car would Visual Basic be?" and view entries in the Imagine Cup short film festival which has a logo very much like the XBox.
the people writing Gnome seem to want to impose their personal preferences onto everyone, defending them as design choices
I am baffled and confused by this statement. How, precisely, are the Gnome developers imposing anything at all on anyone? They are crafting their product the way they like it. If you don't like it, that's okay with them -- use a different WM/desktop.
People will. And eventually the only people using GNOME will be DE dilletantes and dabblers.
Can someone explain how "Wireless Firewire" is related to wired 1394, or how "Wireless USB" is related to USB, other than they are schemes approved by the same organizations? Is it all just marketing or do the technologies really have something in common?
Apple/Sun's track record of not making current JREs available for older releases of Mac OS X makes me wonder if J2SE 1.5 will only be available with 10.4, strongarming Apple customers into shelling out $129 to use contemporary Java applications.
As long as they can manipulate reports and spin things in a way that their stock price doesn't tank they can survive.
What does it matter what their stock price is? The only thing directly determined by the stock price is how much money they can raise by issuing shares, right?
Their stock price can be sky high, but if they have no more shares to sell and they are hemorraging cash........ ?
You see, some people like playing games on their computer. Games that require hardware 3-D acceleration.
If you're concerned about 2-D graphics, go get a card that's tailored to your needs. If you think faster video cards are pointless, then don't click "Read More". Don't post flamebait comments to a story about a card obviously intended for gamers.
Uhm... that sounds kind of like X-Windows...

How crappy.
Thanks for the linkage.
Things would be much worse off if it weren't for organized labor.

You took the chat-words right out of my chat-mouth.
Why was Vorbis forked?
And more importantly, why didn't they take advantage of the chance to give it a better name than Vorbis? "aoTuV"? WTF?
Yeah, Mos Def appears to be the only black guy on the cast and crew. That's irony for you.
It is?
ironic
It turned my stomach in GTA3 each time I heard a mafioso refer to a garbage truck as a "dust cart", or a parking garage as a "car park".
And let's not forget the level in Manhunt where DMA remids us to "please bin your rubbish".

I've always been annoyed by the fact that SuSE has never made regular full-install ISOs available.
Blah blah ftp install blah blah... I've heard it before.

I show my support for this post by replying logged-in.
In the grandparent's defense, they did say none of the major distributors.
...and there was even a Win3.1 specific utility called LongfileNames or something.
I think it was called LONGFI~1.EXE
(I know, I know... ~1 is a 9x-ism)
Did they sell their corporate soul to Satan?
Isn't "coporate soul" a contradiction in terms?
Uhm, yeah...

Stick to nethack.
I meant a top-level reply. =p
Can't believe I'm the first one to post this...

The people who get spyware are the stupid and the elderly. Switching to linux would make things even worse for them.
I believe you just made the case for Mac OS X.
Why spend millions of mips-hours cracking 64-bit encryption when much stronger encryption is available?
And isn't it trivial to calculate the probability of a solution being found when using a known alogrithm and expending a certain amount of CPU time?
What is learned?
