Bringing you a friendly message from the Apple-zealot:
In the name of the great Apple. We were first, and it's called PodCasting. Not mp3-streaming, internet-radio, skypecasting or anyother non apple-related term.
In my view, I think the point is that the music industry shouldnt be allowed to make false claims about P2p hurting the music industry. They keep making those false claims and in return making the tax payers pay for the new copyright-laws. In sweden we've had citizens and ISP's "raided" by the police on behalf of antipiracy lobbyists. I hardly think that's how I want my tax money spent.
Uhm.. no? This case has nothing to do with the legal concernes of pointing out where to find the files. The case with the 27 year old is about "uploading" of files from his computer. In this case one movie "Hip Hip Hora". Which is a swedish movie with a really silly title.
Deem them too hard? If you didn't know (even if you now seem to be a swedish citizen as you use Å in Antipiratbyrån), Sweden is not a state of the USA. It's a country in the north of Europe and we dont follow American laws (yet). We dont value the freedom of paying high bills to multibillion companies.
Oh.. and I did rip off Piratebays reply to a cease and desist letter;)
Skype is one of the few who is aiming to provide this kind of service and actually being able to pull it off. It's simple to use and to setup, and it "simply works" as they say.
Open-source supporters may be quick to wave it off since Skype are using their own closed standards. But the fact remain, no open source alternative has yet been adopted by any company who will provide this kind of service.
Sure , skype isn't perfect. Their 6 month credit limit (before they eat your paid money) is questionable. But most people will be able to use those 25 euro within 6 months calling worldwide.
The phone-companies are still living in the eighties where they will do anything to stall the process where communication will be cheaper.
In my own country (sweden) we have Telia, which was unwilling to provide low-cost internet-access for very long time. Now they are slowly adopting to VoIP and the new trends. Flatrate is becoming more common (not with cellphone networks yet though) and people realise there are alternatives to having to pay high phonebills even for cellphone.
I cant wait for the new Motorola cellphone which makes it possible to call through VoIP in wireless-lan connected areas and use GSM in other areas.:)
When asked in open letters, the parties has promised to vote against the software patents on several occasions. But on every vote they have voted "for" instead, even the representants who are not social democrats. I believe that on one vote the swedish representant didn't even show up.
Anyhow, we can twist all we want about wether or not if it would be elections/vote today, we'd been joining EU.
I'd like to know why those MMS and SMS are priced the way they are? Why wont anyone allow a flat-rate service? I mean.. it's data, but Im sure the cost of building the cellular networks should be paid off by now (excluding 3G).. at least here in sweden. (dont know how it's worldwide)
There's been lots of fuss about this digital cinema system. Appearently the projectors last 3-5 years before the technique is "outdated". Sure it cost much less to get a digital cinema projector. But the analog last for 15 years or more.
friends, family.. etc expect the "geek" to sit down and fix their computers. Usually the problem is due to lack of anti-virus, common sence or knowledge. 5 times out of 6 it's usually just trivial tasks which need doing. (Install ad-aware.. run www.pandasoftware.com/activescan , install Search & Destroy Spybot... repeat. Reboot, patch.. reboot. Patch once more.. reboot and clean registry from stupid stuff like RealPlayer.) Finaly, if everything works and I've installed Firefox for them. Now it's time for the complaining "I want to use IE!" or the usual week later call "My computer doesn't work again. You must've done something to it.". No kidding.. they went back to use IE.. how would you know?
It pisses me off that they almost "expect" you to do all this work for them. (Free of charge of course). It's not like I'd ask some relative who's a mechanic to fix my car for free if it breaks down, and I'd probably be laughed at if I have a trivial problem like changing the windscreens.
And dont come tell me it's worth fixing that damn virus-ridden computer for a cup of thé and cookies! Hell no! Charge them for your valuble time, or make them promise that they'll fix your windscreens whenever you ask for it.
throttle the amount of e-mails a customer can send per time-period.. and the max amount of "BCC, CC" addressess.
It's just a hell and takes lots of time to go through contacting abuse-department of ISP's like AOL and Verizon who decide to block for very few spam-reports. Even though the damage of spambot-infested computers on your own network is limited.
Yet another browser? You mean yet another browser which isn't bloated with fancy li'l popups and ad-friendly functions?
A browser which made tabbed browsing mainstream and is gaining market share very fast.
Firefox is doing exactly what browsers are supposed to do, browse websites. I certainly dont want much innovation right now among browsers. I just want my browser to do what it's supposed to do: "Browse websites". Which is exactly what firefox is doing.
Don't get me wrong. I dont feel the urge to play "freeshards", they usually tend to reflect negatively on you after you're finished with that powertrip of not having to pay. Usually you wont bicker too much, after all it's "free". But taking all the good things in account there are those crappy people at the helm. Who does nothing then bicker, also the downtimes and rather small playerbase is there to reminds you that you're playing on a freeshard. Then of course there are the shard wars where they are DDoS:ing eachother or generally trash-talking one another.
Heh... just thinking of Ultima Online could make up for a whole book of low-downs.
Everything from the release of Age of Shadows (turning UO into a item-based PVP game and trying to make it a gigantic Diablo 2 clone) to the release of 7th anniversary edition (yet another expansion-pack for UO which wasn't worth the money). Oh, and did I mention that EA is the one holding the lashes?
Ah it's no problem, the flightticket will cover the cost for buying a new PDA;) and they'll even throw chopsticks for free.
Someone once told me that I'd have to have at least $1500 if I want to visit Japan. Then add another ~$1000(last I checked) for the flightticket. So it's not very cheap.
Of course not, games is something I'd buy.
However, I dont want to spend $50 on a game I will never play more then just once. Don't have much time to play games, so you really shouldn't make that assumption "you just want to warez games". That's basicly what you said. Really dont have the urge to buy or play any games right now. Now back to the discussion.. many companies will offer students the software at a cut price. But there are many who wont. Some companies will provide an evaluation version which will work for a few weeks, but the major part doesn't. I will much rather buy a competative software if they give me the ability to try it out. Companies need to cut their dream pricing for home-users. If I hadn't had the ability to try said software, I might never had bought it.

We've tried talking to our politicians in sweden, they are either too unknowing about these topics or just dont care.
Touchy topic, but many swedish citizens want to leave the EU.

So that's where all the missing urane went to, the building of the reactor to control those arms..

IDG.se (Swedish IT e-zine) appearently made a report about this, so it seems to be available in sweden aswell.
Since the topic of their article made it seem this way. However, they might just have taken the news from another big site.. so it's not for certain.
Nevermind :) FP got the corrected link.
Thanks.
