On another note, when elections are so close, why don't the politicians recognize that they don't have a clear mandate from the people and respect the opinions of the opposition more?
Well, this is going offtopic, but here is my take.
The thing is (and this is applicable to the only system I have used, the US) that there is no such thing as a "clear mandate" in electoral politics. All you have is a winner and some number of losers. The citizen relief for a politician that isn't doing the job a majority of voters want is defeat in the next election. Once an election is won, the office is executed according to whatever the winner wants (within the law.)
Disclaimer: my philosophy is that an official should perform according to his or her conscience, not the ever shifting and impossible to please "will of the people."
I guess the only response I have to this is that pragmatism rejects a society being 100% anything.
I am definitely a capitalist, but a pragmatic one. I understand certain undertakings are too large to be directed from within society, and the benefits provided are well worth the trouble.
It can be said, however, that nothing you've indicated is anti-capitialist. I would actually classify it as supplemental.
My reasoning is this: every item you listed, and everything else I can think of, supports and improves the capitalist society. Certainly, it isn't within the short-term outlook favored by most corporate captains to provide any outside services or regulation, but when the meta-masters (government in practical cases) consider the long term, these things are seen as beneficial. Quite honestly, I can't see the people who have created and perpetuated various social programs as not being capitalists.
This post is flavored by my being a US citizen, so take it as you will.
My previous company gave out Eurosealers as bonuses this year. Now all my former coworkers can seal their half eaten bags of iSnack Soy Cyber Chips (TM) instead of wasting them like before. It's the gift that keeps on giving, I tell ya.
Then GTA wins. There's plenty of recorded audio spoken by humans. Famous humans, at that. In particular, the Haitian insult is spoken, so I guess it is literally protected.
It would be like blaming a retarded virgin girl for being a rape victim on the grounds that she should have known that the rapist was lying to her when he told her that good things would happen to her if she would just put out. The whole point is that she can't make that kind of informed decision without a guardian.
It isn't anything like that at all. It would be like a hooker promising some guy free sex for every six times the guy paid, then reneging because "my pimp won't let me," then the guy's wife getting pissed about the guy fucking hookers all the time and leaving, and the guy blaming the pimp for breaking up his marriage.
There. My analogy is infinitely more convoluted than yours (and yours is incredibly convoluted) and MINE IS APPLICABLE! I WIN!!!
My dad could install and use Windows, but he could not install use Linux (that would be any distribution you care to name).
Bullshit, troll. My dad can't install Windows, Linux, OS X, or any other system you care to throw out. He can, however, click links and type. Since that's all you need to be able to do browse the web and send email (which is all he needs a computer for) he can use ANY properly configured systems.
What sort of advanced work does your father, the average computer user, do on a computer that would require him to use Windows, anyway? I'm dying for this answer, since logging on, browsing the web, and sending email is, for all intents and purposes, exactly the same on all the systems.
This isn't just an assumption - I have weaned my parents slowly off Windows and onto Linux, and they don't know the difference, or care. So why? I don't have to troubleshoot their machine nearly as much, because things just work the way I set them up the first time.
Maybe, as you say, Linux simply isn't ready for the desktop or the unclued user, but that only works under the assumption that the Office monopoly must be maintained, and the unclued user is setting the entire machine up themselves (and how likely is that for the average Windows user, again?) A configured Linux box is just as easy to use as a configured Windows machine.
Damn, I ranted back to a troll. You win, you liar.
With a little care, you can make 98 run for a long time. Hell - I had WinME running for almost six months before it gave out. Playing TFC every night, too.
the best part is: you can pile all this anecdotal evidence in one hand and shit in the other. Which one fills up first?
I personally practice guitar (mild success) and picking up drunk women in bars (extravagant failure, but I love the law of averages.) Can't speak for other atheists.
LA is probably the city that has the most lawyers per person living there.
Been in DC lately?

"I'll break your legs unless you prove you voted for x"
I wouldn't call that "bought" exactly...

I'm much closer to you than you think
I never think. It's tiring.
That's a brilliant fucking formula! Still, I'm attracted to those who would abuse me, so I can't help myself...

Okay, you're trolling. I accept that. I am feeding you. I accept that as well.
But please, edify me with some examples of areas where this is true:
Fortunately, the vast majority of the population of the world are not capitalists. They still value humanity over a corporation.
Does anyone worry about getting certified anymore? I've never known a certified anyone that was worth their weight in dead cock-a-roaches.

Since we (/.'ers) coined it to mock them.

I would have to say this phrase seriously predates
Or get mozilla firebird, which does both natively.
Or rig the coffee maker to drip hot water on your head.
The smell of boiling flesh will help wake you up!

Do we really need this in the GBA? I like mine because I can play good games in weird places, not because it's a do-all device.
More like Notooth.

For all of it's flaws, there isn't a single person starving in China.
Art thou high?
Here's the difference: You can easily examine the carrier of the GPL virus to see if it is infected, and not fuck it or shoot up with it.
What a terrible metaphor...

Do auto manufacturers put the drink in your hand along with the keys?

I like them both!
Cute.
