YaST is very nice, I agree. But it looks like you have a yast infection. =)

One major point about SuSE's YaST: it frequently does not contain the latest and greatest versions of packages. I remember having to manually compile Gaim 0.77 while Yast in Suse 9.0 only had 0.6x (i forget the exact version) available.

Enter Gentoo. Portage, on the other hand, is often updated within a few days at most to include the latest version of a package. So yes, even if YaST does include a bunch of packages, they might be hopelessly out of date.

Can you point me to a good summary of the status of Linux on iPAQ?

Sure, check out the FAQ's on handhelds.org. There's plenty of good sites out there to keep you reading.

About WiFi support, I've had good success using a compact flash prism2-based 802.11b card. One of my roommates uses an orinoco gold pc card for wifi on his linux ipaq.

  13. quick cards on World's Fastest Flash Memory Card? · · Score: 4, Insightful

Is there a need for speedy memory cards? Absolutely!

Think about sports photographers. They definitely need quick cards to save the last picture and be ready for the next play. Never underestimate the importance of timing in digital photography.

  14. i would love 2 GB on World's Fastest Flash Memory Card? · · Score: 3, Interesting

I run Familiar linux on my iPaq. My ipaq has a mere 32 megs of flash ram. While this is enough for familiar, X, and a few applications, it gets filled up quickly. Once you start adding lots of packages, that 32 megs gets filled up very quickly. In order to get more space, I move all the binaries to an SD card.

Having 2 gigs available to store packages, not to mention music and even movies would be fantastic, especially for long trips.

Yep, SuSE 9.1 has already been released on CD/DVD, complete with kernel 2.6.4-54 I believe. However, Mandrake 10 is already available for download while SuSE isn't available for download until June 4th.

Personally I prefer SuSE over Mandrake, but if you really really want a prebuilt 2.6 kernel based system NOW, you can go ahead and grab a copy from Mandrake.

It is NOT because younger people are smarter or brighter than older people. That's true. I think it would be safe to assume that older people would have more applicable experience and be more effective at the job. I think another assumption usually made is that younger people are sharper and more on the ball. But then again, that's just a typical stereotype as well.

  25. Re:Let's play the name game... on Gator Files for IPO to Raise $150 Million · · Score: 2, Insightful

They're changing their name before they go public. What does this tell prospective investors? It tells them they have a bad image.

Take a look at Valujet. They had serveral crashes and then changed their name to Airtran. Why? Because people associate Valujet with poorly maintained planes that crash. What is Gator known for? Annoying intrusive spyware. Take a look at Claria's website and note how clean and, well, "clear" it is. Again, they're trying to change their image. I hope people who decide to invest in this company keep Gator in mind when looking at Claria. It's the same management running the new company.

On an unrelated note, check out Claria's home page when redirected from their original page. It features a red bubble not seen from claria.com which 404's. Not a very professional sign.
