Another voice in millions here but can I recommend:
Piano Sonata no.23 in F minor 'Appassionata' op.57
Piano Sonata no.30 in E major op.109
Piano Sonata no.31 in A flat major op.110
Piano Sonata no.32 in C minor op.111
Piano Sonata no.21 in C major 'Waldstein' op.53
If you like the piano.
I'm sure Beethoven has many more sonatas easily as great as these, I just haven't heard them yet. In the first 4 I listed Beethoven is talking directly to you and I'm not making that up (he knew music could do that and wrote it). He's there, in your head and talking about life and how it should be lived, not how you're living it. It's not like reading a book, it's something else.
The Waldstein is a beautiful piece of music like the moonlight.
23 and 21 by Wilhelm Kempff, the rest by Glen Gould
Anyone got any recommendations? These are the ones I know.
If it appears in a journal, then I'll believe it. Also, why are they doing it with dogs and not mice or insects or anything far, far less complex (like a single cell)?
Didn't RTFA, as I don't get my science news from/.
Grabs broom and clenches it hard 'I'll sweep you shenanigans out of MY house!
I tried to read The Moor's Last Sigh by Rushdie. It was horrible.
The entire book was written in one monotonous remembering tone of voice which didn't change even when the characters had fights.
And all the men were weird, being driven to alcoholism by thier wives, being beaten by their wives (IIRC), being driven to suicide by thier wives, or running off with other men in their wives wedding dresses. I don't know what kind of world Rushdie inhabits but it's nothing like the one I know.
I've read and enjoyed Moby Dick but only got half-way through Moor's. I suspect, unless Rushdie's other books are magnitudes above that one, that he is not on that list for a reason.
ackthpt, however that is pronounced:-p, I'm not sure the beaver was 6' tall, here's a picture of a model one courtesy of the CBC: Castoroides ohioensis. That's the host of the show, Quirks & Quarks beside him.
You should get the sequal All Day Permanent Red. War Music was a bit of a dissappointment after reading the original poems he wrote [published in Homer in English which is easily found]. He re-earnt my admiration with ADPR.
Only on/. would I meet other people who have heard of Logue:-)
Maybe his problem with Star Trek is that it isn't overwritten enough, that it isn't heavily and unbelievably overplotted enough, and that it is full of believable characters behaving consistantly within their roles and not changing their personalities as the plot neccessitates?
The Dalek Empire Series from Big Finish is fanatastic, better than the TV show by far [I'm still a fan though], and it has lots of Dalek dialogue and phycology.
Their new flash players don't play.mp3 either. They say they do but what they do is everytime you move your.mp3's onto them it encrypts them and converts them to a "Sony only".mp3 format to prevent you getting them off the player.
I know that their software is compatable with, and can convert all mp3s, but isn't 100% compatable one of the great computer lies?
the characters were dead on though, but I agree with you.
Check out the second episode before you dismiss the series, its' looking extreemly good.
The show has potential, hopefully they'll iron out the flaws in the future. I mean, characters and budget, and an open plot, I think things will get better fast. And Daleks too.
Yes, I'm interested as well please.
I personally recommend the late string quartets by Beethoven.

on the main page. And the links were farked, err, /.'ed
I don't care how 'dark' or how 'violent' it is.
Unless the plot is decent and the characters good, it'll still be, at the very best, second rate geek pop.
There might be three of us.

I'm also a fan of Clarke, Wells, and Asimov. He's wrong on the point of people liking Star Trek because they haven't seen "good" Sci-fi.
OSC's overwritten dreary novels have wasted enough of my life and I've only read 2 1/2.
If he wanted to mention proper TV he could have talked about The Prisoner, but then, he thinks Smallville was good... ... ...

I remember hearing Scream II and Final Fantasy both being described as...[ wait for it..] "Dark".
The second one I enjoyed, but it wasn't a good film.

Glad I've got an iPod.
Alright, Billie is a better actress than Nicola Byrant [who is appauling] but I still prefer Nicola or Jacqueline Hill [the fashion model]!
I also liked X-Men 2, but not 1.
Everytime I hear "What a Wonderful World" I think of the ending.
Now don't lets all throw a pissy-fit.
the gmail story is all true. Horribly, horribly, true.
At least ours are funny.

No one in this thread has mentioned him so far. Perhaps hes' not lively enough, idk.
Thank you for posting that. I'd lost it when my hd crashed and missed it evar since;_)
