The mailman has probably seen many dogs before. Just like us, the universe is probably teeming with selfish destructive little hedonisitic civilizations like our own.
I think that after a while you just ignore them and concentrate upon the decent, more constructive civilizations.
I like Genrikh Altov's theory [In The Port of Rock Storms, World's Spring Anthology]The other civilizations are out moving themselves into star clusters where all the advanced civilizations have gathered, and have been living collectively since they first formed. Until we move our solar system into one of those clusters, no one is going to care.
You got modded down because you recommended books that the mods hadn't read, and it hurt their feelings.
Let me join you.
I recommend Homer. The Iliad or The Odyessy are two of the greatest books ever written, start with the Odyssey.
Following in the grand-parent posts' steps, I can recommend Timequake by Vonnegut as an underrated book. But back to the public domain.
Aristiophanes is the only comedian as funny as Monty Python, check him out though you'll have to read up on your mythology and other Greek lit. But there is nothing like Aristophanes, he is outrageous. Lysystrata [The Breaker of Armies] is placed in the [historical] war between Athens and Sparta, and the women of Greece declare a sex strike till peace is made.
I've also enjoyed the Tragedians (Euripides, Sophocles, and Aeschylus), you'd think they are boring but it's pithy and exciting exciting, nothing near as depressing as Million Dollar Baby.
In fact, check out any of the Greco-Roman stuff, you'll be blown away.
I, as a practicing Christian, am also offended by these people.
The southern evangelists do exercise an undue influence upon the North American church, but one day they'll go away, perhaps when the presidency changes.
Actually Cannes wanted to play Episode I when it came out but Lucas couldn't be bothered, I expect they tried for Episode II as well.
This Episode III opening is a mark of just how low the Star Wars Syndication has been lowered, in that George Lucas is now bowing to peer pressure and allowing other people to dictate how his film is marketed, and grabbing all the publicity possible.
Conversely, it could be a sign that the film is actually solid as he's allowing it to actually be screened for critics prior to its' actual release. Naaawww....
My own views on Cannes artistic integrity I'll not go into here.
Apparently Fallout was sort of slapped together over the weekend by a very angry Patrick who'd just been told his series was cancelled. I don't consider it cannon, and far beneath the Marvel comic book sequal (which was alright).
It's one of the great art crimes of the past 30 years that The Prisoner was never properly finished in book or any format. Something they really have to change.
I have heard it said that "Whoever wrote the final episode to The Prisoner should be given a though spanking".
When editing some literature reviews for our Industrial Engineering class I emailed one of the guys in our group and reminded him that when you copy & paste entire articles into the project to hand in, remember to change the font as well.
Yes! Like in that episode of Scrubs where the janitor installed a private roof toilet so he could meditate between the sun and the earth with a magazine.
He made the mistake of telling one person about it, and the lineups started....
and if you talk to the 'non-DS9 watching public' or other people many will agree.
The originals are fun, entertaining, and exciting but great filmmaking they are not, though they do have great things in them (like the AT-AT's and Darth Vader and Jabba). Ewoks?
SW is good stuff but not Great Stuff, however much they market it.
Your post is a little unclear on his motivation for why he would concentrate on "working hard".
IIRC Miyazaki feels that japanese women are undervalued in modern Japanese society. Hence he always develops 'strong' female leads in his films, leads who go places because they work hard, which is the only way you'll ever go places.
He's not perpetuating a system of exploitation for women but giving them a lesson in how to live successfully. It's also why his films are better than hollywood dreck, working hard is an alien concept to hollywood movies, but in the end, it's all that counts.

I'll have to check it out, thanks for the recommendation.

Morons though, are as old as the species.

Apparently they state that life on earth may have begun in the volcanic vents. A clear reference to evolution.
And I'm one of them:-)
Course I thought I'd be at the edge of the wave with an iPod, apparently not, apparently I missed it and am with the rest of the masses...
At least there was, was she cut out in the new releases?

no, that wouldn't make the news.
this above cursory comment is the most insightful thing I've read on /., ever.
it's true, the eggs predicted it.
A. Four hours of begging.
Nah, that'd be science.
I gave up years ago. Space Opera which is perhaps even worse than Stargate!
When will people realize that good stories of any sort, espically science-fiction, must be intelligent and clever.
Oh, my bad, it's TV, the rules of good stories don't apply here....
Keyhole didn't have this, I'm glad it's been corrected here.
Another excited user.
Paraphrasing, but he was so bad that he couldn't write action and had to use exclaimation points.
I got stuck reading it in a 'you read one of mine and I'll read one of your's. The other guy read 2 hitchhiker books and told me they sucked.

My two cents...

Yes!
Finally someone who agrees with me.

I played with your heart?
and I, for one, am guilty of moving Angelina up the list.
Doesn't Pee-wee have big ears?
