Well, like I stated in an earlier message, I am one of the unfortunates who this affects. My company is extremely sensetive to IP issues right now because they are already involved in a lawsuit involving IP.

What gets me, however, is that the lawsuit filed by SCO doesn't talk about the same code being anywhere. It talks about technologies that IBM and its subsideraries developed for "UNIX" systems.

Correct if I am wrong, but the whole suit is about the original license from ATT that states that they own all derivative works of UNIX.

Everything else is just a red herring.

Yep, well you are lucky one. It cracks me up to see all these posters talking about how this lawsuit doesn't matter. It is affecting the adoption of Linux. I was bringing these boxes in as low cost alternatives to Solaris and Sparc. Now, they are being converted to W2K. Wish I had decided to force them to spend more money! :) Funny thing is that legal hasn't said a word about the fact that we are running AIX boxes everywhere. That point really puzzles me, since they are the ones that SCO is going after! Oh well, it is a funny world that we live in.

Yes, I agree that BSD whatever is a viable solution. However, Linux is a supported solution by many corporations. With Dell and Oracle presesnting RH Linux and 9i RAC as their preferred solution, there is much more support for Linux over BSD varients. Besides, Sontag and McBride have already said that BSDs may be another target. And the second that they say "may", companies wary of lawsuits (such as mine) are going to stay away.

I am currently getting my MBA through an online program with an acreditted school. I think that a lot of it depends on the professor, just like any normal classroom setting. I have had some professors that have been really into it. And others not so much so.

For example, my last class was a law and ethics class. I probably spent 20 - 25 hours a week working on my papers for that class. However, I was greatly appreciative of my professor of that class because he provided me with detailed homework assignments. In addition, when I got feedback from him, it was on the order of 3 pages long. However, my class before that was not as good. The professor in that class would just give me a grade and not tell me why I received that particular grade. However, all the of the professors that I have had have been very open about communication. In fact, my current accounting professor and I have talked every weekend since the class has started.

Maybe some schools take it seriously and others don't? But, I can tell that I am working my butt off. I haven't had a whole lot of slack time.

I just bought one last weekend. It is pretty slick. It does what it claims to do. You can just let it go and return later and your room is clean. I have 3 cats and the amount of cat hair it picks up is pretty amazing.

It manuevers around and under everything that is over 6" high. So, it can deal with coffee tables, chairs, beds, etc. It detects stairs and avoids them. It comes with a virtual wall unit (you can buy more), that sends out a signal the roomba won't cross. When I first got it, I put it is my main room. It has a TV, a large L shaped couch, and 2 litter boxes. The room is 20x10. I eat in front of the tv, so you can imagine all that crap. I ran it in there, and I was amazed at all the stuff if picked up.

There are a few caveats, however. Battery life. You can only do "3 medium size rooms". My carpet is pretty thick, however. It is closer to 2 rooms. Plus, the time to charge the battery is 12 hours. You can buy spare batteries and a "quick charger", however, they are $60 bucks apiece. It is designed to do one room at a time, so you just can't put it up on the second floor and let it do everything. You have to put it into a room, close the door, and let it rip. It is not designed as a spot cleaner. If you have one really messy part of the room, you are better off getting your regular vacuum and vacumming that part of the room and then putting the roomba to work. The dirt collector is pretty small, so you have to empty it out after every room. Also, because of all the cat hair, I spend a lot of time cleaning the brushes and making sure the machine is clean. Unfortunately, it does not map out the room, so it may go over some areas that are not as high traffic as others, due to the algorithm that is uses.

My girlfriend thought I was nuts for buying it. However, for $200 bucks, (the price a of a decent vacuum) it is pretty cool. Now, only if it would travel stairs, do multiple rooms, have a larger dirt container, and plug itself back in, it would be near perfect
