Gmail DOES support Safari, versions 1.2.1 and newer. They recently added this feature.
You do know that Gmail is still in beta, don't you? Don't get mad at them for not having certain features yet.
What resources aside from MSKB and google searching do slashdot readers use for troubleshooting strange problems?
Try some online forums. I suggest www.tek-tips.com and www.experts-exchange.com. There are usually tons of helpful people on those boards. Just remember to help other users solve their problems as well.
Perhaps they should consider selling it to another party. I'm sure there are some companies or non-profit organizations who would be interested and have the resources to take it over.
It will keep the kids out of trouble until the feds come busting through the door and busting them for having a sh*t load of pirated/illegal software! Come on, use Linux and some open source or free software. There's quality free stuff out there; check out the Knoppix Linux distribution.
A fun alternative would be to use The Sims. It can't do anything that is structurally complex, but you will be able to try out furnature layouts, carpeting, and wallpaper.

I can't believe this product (or any other ones by Archos) aren't being discussed. With the Archos AV models, you can record and play back movies (the AV320 has a 3.8" color screen), listen to the radio, capture and view photos. It can support Compact flash, smartmedia, and memory stick. And, oh yeah, listen and record mp3's. They have 20GB and 40GB models.
Archos can do much more than the iPod and costs much less. Go check it out people! (archos.com)
Tell MIT to give back their Class A, unless they *actually* have 24 million machines over there!
There is no way a university needs that many IP addresses. I believe Stanford already gave up theirs because they realized it was unncessary.
If I download any mp3's of people dropping friends off at the pool, I'm comming after you!
For goodness sakes, please stop suggesting this, the P2P networks already have enough junk on them.
It's really the record companies that are imposing these restrictions (notice the varying levels of protection by labels). Buymusic.com has to sell their music like this.
Suggested formats for your music products - in addition to Microsoft's proprietary format - would be MP3, Ogg Vorbis, et al.
They can't use these formats because they don't have DRM... and since you need Windows Media Player 9 to use the files, you can bet all the people who would want to purchase from this site would have IE.
Yeah, but if I was going to obtain music illegally, I would just rather 'steal' it than the method you describe. Both methods are copyright infringement, but Kazaa is cheaper, easier and faster.

If only this damned thing would stop getting in the way of making this country a better and safer place.

...Just as long as you can keep people from swiping the CD's!

...but who is going to want to download lossless versions of songs off the internet. I'd say 'no thank you' to downloading those 50MB wavs.
