In my agreement (in the US) it has a clause that says my company will pay my salary for a the "blackout" period if I am unable to find work. Thus allowing me to feed my family...
While that may be a valid point, there are still risks: - You inherited/are-using code from someone else - A hacker thinks of something you didn't
Let's also not forget all the blame that is put on Microsoft for having insecure software. Sure... if you don't open those attachments it's safe so why bother fixing Outlook/IE?
You should access your GET/POST variable from their respective associative arrays:
$_GET["varname"]
$_POST["varname"]
Having register_globals turned on is a security risk as it allows hackers to inject settings into your code or adversely affect your variables without you knowing it.
As much as parent's post was a joke, this is the first thing that came to mind. Did they come out with some sort of interference pattern in desktop wallpaper? I am dissapointed now....
Years ago (the days of 486's) I had built myself a new PC and was in the process of installing Windows 95 when I had the thought that the PC might be overheating. Not wanting to stop the Win95 install (being as bitchin' as the PC was at the time it still took a whiel) I decided that I needed to allow for more ventilation. Instead of removeing the cover, popping open an empty drive bay or simply just using my head and NOT worrying about it, I decided to try and pop off a slot cover.
Well, instead of it coming off in my hands it fell partially into the case. So far so good but certainly not enough action for me. I decided top take a pair of needle-nose pliers and try and grab the slot cover and pull it out. I was doing good until I bumped the MoBo and "jzzzt" I lost my little game of "Operation."
I used that PC for another two years with only a blown serial port and one blown slot.
You wanna see abused PCs? Look inside my parents' PCs to see the 4 pounds of dust and ashes that have accumulated!
Problem is that you can't trademark the names that make sense. That is why Intel switched from 486 to Pentium. Now the competition could not call their's "Pentium" compatible because it's trademarked.
Given that, there is a serious problem for companies finding trademarkable names anymore. That is why there getting more and more ridiculous.
I think, however, they should use more superlatives: The Spectaculon, or Superfastium. Probably already taken though...
I suspect you were modded down because you said "Windows" and "Works" in the same sentence. But it is a point nonethless. Having competition in any space is going to fuel innovation so it's never a bad idea.
Doesn't mean it has to be OSS (but that would be nice) as I have been using "alternative" BIOS' on my MoBO for quite a while. They're more of a hack than a "real" BIOS but it's existence lit a "fire" under the MFR's ass.
I don't thik MS has anything to worry about. I think they have proven that their new search engine is like no other (in the fact that it doesn't yet return anything substatial and filters out any anit-Microsoft results).
I agree. But I had alwasy wondered if (a) there are ways around this and (b) you are bound to at least use some of the same concepts (we'll say an authentication piece or something) that you will certinaly use your lessons learned from your previous company.
Of course, if you are working on closed source for both companies, you could probably get away with it as long as you don't make it blaringly obvious.
If you worked on something big enough, they will make you sign a non-compete clause as well. Barring you from working for a competing company for x years.
Agree. There are many many options... but none of them on by default. My concern is not really the actual mechanism for saving the passwords but the fact that someone can sit at my terminal with access (for whatever reason) and can easily get access to my bank accounts, mail accounts, whatever because I was lazy and have bookmarks to the login pages which have the information already filled in.
Personally, I do not do that and have already turned off saving passwords. I don't even trust myself...
... which is the reason I always turn off the "save my password" crap. I don't want to leave that door open for anyone even if my workstation is utra-secure (and it is not).
I always wondered why this feature was added into browsers such as Firefox because to me it's a big hole.
Correction: It's JUST AS dangerous. The same goes for your local coffee shop. Someone will eventually try and sue them... who knows. Perhaps those are the same users who don't even know their PC is a spam drone.
Listen... I have no need to back up my proflie directory because it really isn't that important to me. Therefore it doesn't get backed up. I don't really care that Firefox redid all my settings... it's just an inconvienience.
And yes... it is BETA... thanks for pointing out the obvious but perhaps even more obvious is that it's a release candidate. Trust me I am more than aware of the dangers (ooo scary) of BETA software but it's a lead of faith for something that I think even in it's BETA stage is far superior to any other browser out there. Frankly, even 0.8 has no noticible bugs in it compared to the supposedly more mature IE6.0.
Funny thing is all I could find where the 0.8 notes. Musta missed the 0.9rc notes. Still doesn't make it right in my eyes... I certainly would have wanted the option to NOT import my IE crap.
I take the FiF...
I miss my theme the most, however. Just a personal thing but I think the default theme is hideous. There are other, lightweight themes that could have made a better default.
Yeah... how about a damn warning next time guys. So much for all my friggin' links. And thanks for removing my extensions and replacing my nice pretty theme.
I bought a few fans from SilenX and I'll tell you they are the quietest fans I have used yet. I usually stuck with the Panaflo's but I am definitely a convert. (not to sound like a salesman).

Perhaps they should make it easier on the end-user:

Probably because they want polititians to be able to read it.
