  1. Greg Dyke on Torvalds the "5th Most-Powerful Man in Tech" · · Score: 2, Insightful

I love the fact that Good old Rupert was knocked down to size by a pioneer in e-izing independent media, Greg Dyke. I have loved the BBC's style of reporting since living in Birmingham for a year. Since then Greg Dyke has moved the BBC to be one of the best news/tv sites on the net. Regardless of what you think of the BBC itself he has paved the way that other media giants are going to intigrate thier services onto the Net.

For the worlds worst example see FOX News.

The internet is no place to have your morality develop.

Slashdot does not tell you good vs. evil. If you support starving artists you phrase your arguement to skew to the RIAA, if you support file sharers you skew to the side of Sherman. 16. World Hunger on Space Elevator Conference Wraps Up · · Score: 1

World hunger is actually more of a problem of transportation and politics at the current time then it is a problem of food production and cost. Using the money given by large nations and contributors at the current time, the food overproduced due to farming subsidies in the developed nations (mumbles inaudibly) we could feed all those starving. However, due to trade sanctions (More inaudible disgruntled mumbling that sounds surprisingly like cursing), local corruption (Iraq was a good example of plenty of food that was being held back for no better reason then the government officials wanted to be bribed to do their jobs), and lack of reliable infrastructure (See problems of food distribution in Central Africa) that was most likely the cause of the food shortages in the first place.

Best possible Idea, build the Space elevator and use it to deliver food supplies via sub-orbital air drop. Even if it doesn't work right we would end up with a ton of good blooper home videos from the endeavor.

The establishment of a Refuel/Construction station at L1 or (and knowing the government) L2, seems to be a major goal. It is not however mentioned wiether this station would be best as an automated station or a manned station. With good communication and a manned space station being maintained in LEO (Which should be pushed into higher orbit when we abandon the Space shuttle if you ask me) does this new station need to be manned? Is thier any scientific advantage to manning the station or can we operate it from earth just as well?

I must say it almost seems like a feasible plan if well funded and supported. But the proccess is going to be slowed down if this first station must be inhabited.
