If you can have SACD/DVD-A players - no reason not to have hd dvd/bd players.
There were 3 announcements about universal players that were quickly withdrawn - by Samsung, LG and Pioneer (actually a drive announcement). So it is possible there are contractual agreements in place to prevent it for the time being (probably 2006 ?).
The big step in universal players is not the SOC - already the toshiba HD DVD player and the Samsung BD player use the same chip. What is critical is the drive (in particular the OPU).
The first gulf war was the tipping point. The Forex reserves ran so low (just weeks worth) that reforms were inevitable. Manmohan Singh the current PM was the first to introduce reforms at that stage... which has been "progressing" in fits and bursts.
There was a small attempt at reforms earlier by Rajiv Gandhi (which for eg. opened Indian industry to newer motor bikes) but that came to a standstill once he got embroiled in Bofors kickback controversy.
Aryan migration, Mogul conquest, British colonialism - all shaped India's civilization over centuries.
Aryan Invation as a theory has been debunked a long time back... replaced by Aryan Migration theory.
Fanatical "Hindutva" theories trying to "prove" that aryans have been in India forever... have absolutely no scientific / linguistic base. They are just RSS's version of "Intelligent Design Theory". The following gives links to both sides of the debate.
As someone closely following India's economic progress, I think that needs to kept in mind is the Kashmir problem.
It is acknowledged by all India experts that the "K" problem needs to be solved and permanent peace established with Pakistan before India can have growth rates close to China.
Otherwise India will continue to remain a "sleeping elephant", even though it has come out of the "Hindu" rate of growth in the past decade or so.

A good list will have to wait (I'm busy with my move).
I've always liked older (pre 70) movies, even with songs. For one thing the songs are great. Also most of the songs were woven into the story and the mood.
For serious art movies directors like Satyajit Ray, Mrinal Sen, Adoor Gapalkrishnan, Bimal Roy, G V Iyer, Girish Karnad, Govind Nihlani are well known. Most of them would come with English sub-titles since they are usually not in Hindi. Unfortunately, this genre is almost dead now.
What do you want... an escapist movie or an artistic ?
I can give you a large list of artistist movies (without unnatural song and dance sequences). Especially from 80s and 90s.
If you want an escapist movie whats wrong with songs ? Such movies in Hollywood are called musicals. It so happens, in Bollywood, musicals are the preferred genre.
Afterall, musicals were all the rage some decades back in Hollywood and they seem to be making a comeback with movies like Chicago and Moulin Rouge.
Like in Hollywood there are good movies and bad movies. The categorization has got nothing to do with songs.
If you don't like the songs just FF.
One more point, lot of people may not be aware of. The Indian popular music is essentially the film music. That is why the films will always have them.
With projectors More pixels is always Better. You have to just take care of the source. 800x600 is not enough to show the full resolution of anamorphic DVDs.
That is easily done. A simple PC (aka Home Theatre PC or HTPC) can take care of that. Take a look at the forums at AV Science (avsforum).
A good XGA projector with DVI input, fed by a HTPC with a decent DVI equipped video card is all you need for fantastic pictures.
First thing to note is that these are essentially business projectors. Real home theatre projectors cost a lot, so lot of us tend to use good business projectors for HT. Best way to learn about the projectors for HT use is not by reading such low-depth reviews... but by going through AVSForum.
I'd never get a 800x600 projector for hometheatre now. I'm on my 4th digital projector and the first two were SVGA. By buying them with coupons etc with the help of fatwallet forums, I've been able to buy new projectors for the price I can get on ebay for the old projector. So this way, you don't even have to wait for the price of the projector to come down.
I'm surprised the review talks so much about luminence... who cares that much about it in HT ? Color accuracy, black level (something not even mentioned in the review) and contrast are much more important.
Finally we will have more online music stores than presidential hopefuls.
The comparison is more than just for fun. Finally there will be only two or three large music stores left. That is no reason for all not to try and lose some money.
iTunes "world" collection... particularly Indian Classical Music that I looked at is miniscule. I don't expect them to have thousands of EMI India albums, but atleast the hundreds of others that Amazon sells.
BTW, this is also one genre where iTunes will do badly... since most of the tracks are very long... 20 or minutes. They seem to have decided not to give any song which is more than 10 minutes long for 99 cents. You need to buy the album for $9.99. Why would I do such a stupid thing since the CD is generally available for $10-$12.

This does not sound right. Any links ...
Well considering that Kerala is now run by commies ... ;-)

developing nuclear missiles at a huge rate
Where did you get that information ?
WaPo is a slightly right of the center, if anything. And they supported Iraq War.
Thats where the ISRO control center is. Hassan is some 200 kms north west of B'lore.
Should have replied one level higher ...
Free bandwidth to broadcasters in the name of HDTV is one of the largest (in terms of money) scandals that has gone unreported.
I've never seen that movie. You mean they dance only at the end ? Can't be ...

Interesting. Then, that is what everyone else is doing too ... almost everyone charges around 10cents a minute now.

Do you mean Gropanator
Unless the job is for doing natural language processing, in Sanskrit.
But then, only a few thousand would be fluent in Sanskrit all over the world ....
s-video input on either SVGA or XGA projector sucks, anyway. To get good PQ, you have to use higher pixel projector AND a better source like HTPC.
I've to disagree with you on this.

This kind of incident will make sure that in future too many idiots in marketing will not comeup with such ideas.
I'm not saying such things will not repeat ... mankind has an uncanny ability to repeat its past mistakes.
I don't think, for eg., anyone is going to repeat the "activation features" tried by Intuit for TurboTax.
I've been using a simple Belkin router for quite a while. Its been very reliable and stable.
But, this is disturbing and sick. Every 8 hours ! I may have cribbed less if it was 30 days once ...
There are lot of other features in the router that I don't use ... and are free. They don't remind me about those every 8 hours once, do they ?
I hope this happens to an FTC commissioner and he initiates some action against them.
