Maybe not that big of a difference...remember, it's related to WW1, there were Germans involved.
PS. They were the evil ones.
I think you are confusing the First World War with the Second World War. There were no Nazis involved in the first war (I really shouldn't have to explain this). Allied propaganda aside, the Germans were no better or worse than the allied powers.
Why do UFOs always show up in front of some hick in south dakota or kentucky? why don't the aliens ever land on the mall in DC or on top of the Effiel tower?
They're NOT pulling people aside because they're nonwhite.
Um, I worked with a lot of Chinese post-docs. Whenever we would fly somewhere to go to a conference, they were *always* "randomly chosen" for increased security screening. I (being considered "white") was never selected. They even joked about how used they had gotten to it.
The idea that preventative care (spending $1000-2000 a year to visit the doctor and repair various ailments) is cheaper than catastrophic care is a myth. It makes about as much sense as me repainting my car every year to prevent rust. It makes much more sense to wait for the rust, and THEN repaint my car. The same is true with your body.
Great idea. Don't you ever go in for physical exams. When you feel a pain or lump in your side or neck, don't go to the doctor right away. Wait a few years so the doctor can tell you that the cancer has spread throughout a large part of your body. Then, not only can we be rid of another idiot, but you also get to die a well-deserved painful, lingering death.
The fact that, depending on your state, you're not actually allowed to defend yourself (gun or not).
And which state would this be? I know of no state where you cannot defend yourself against someone breaking into your house.
It's not just about guns, it's about the legality of self-defense. Go look for cases where would-be burglars injured themselves while robbing a house and successfully sued.
The cases you are thinking of are where people set up traps to kill or injure someone entering their home while they were gone. You can shoot someone who breaks into your house. You cannot set up a tripwire or mantrap. This is not some recent "liberal" thing. This is basic common law well over a century old.
In short, like most American conservatives, you do not have the first clue what you are talking about. You just believe what the hate radio tells you.
The sad thing is that even hate radio is getting more stupid. Try listening to some of the works of Father Coughlin. He may have been a bigoted piece of dung, but at least he was an articulate, well-spoken bigoted piece of dung. Listening to right-wing radio now is like hearing a scene from "Idiocracy". "Obama sucks 'cause he interrupted me when I was watching 'Oh, my balls!'"
CSPAN isn't always boring. Sometimes authors speak very compellingly about their books. When they've got a good author and a good topic, CSPAN is easily the best thing on the tube.
I, for one, would certainly agree with you. But the people GP is talking about would find shows like Book TV to be as dull as watching paint dry. Shows like that require that you pay attention and use your brain. And there are no loud explosions.
Oh quite true. I simply figured that "brevity is the soul of wit". But, the 2004 election shows us so blatantly how little choice we have. When the two already vetted candidates cannot be substantially differentiated between, we do not have democracy.
This guy reminds me of a cute little 5 year old. His heart is in the right place and he just wants everything fair and nice.
Actually, I would be more interested in what he plans to do after graduation and if this kind of database would be useful for him. Remember, he is a law student. Lawyers don't care about the truth. In fact, it is a part of the job description ("zealous advocacy" and all that sort of thing). He probably does not actually believe what he is writing, but if enough *other* people believe his arguments, he gets what he wants.
Remember politicians, lawyers, journalists, and similar people are not interested in facts or logical arguments. They are interested in "winning" the argument since it gives them the advantage.
It is a problem that geeks (myself included, I'm not trying to poke fun at anyone) have with the "real world" of politics and law. We are used to dealing with science and engineering principles, which require that we find out what the facts are, and to how many decimal places. We use logic as a means to design things properly or determine new principles.
In the "real world" facts are used selectively and placed in favorable lights. The truth is relevant only insofar as it serves someone's needs.

I think Bill Hicks had a pretty good explanation for this.
Well, then the obvious solution is to recruit more Zombies for UFO research. If anyone can bring back Alien brains, it would be them...
Yes, your post is primordial slime. It's not like it was intelligently designed.

No, it isn't.
But I worship the Flying Spaghetti Monster. Surely squid and spaghetti can work together in peace!
Now that we have frogs to predict the earthquakes, we can more effectively employ sheep bladders to prevent them!
Well, depending on how the tenant pays the rent...
Welcome to Slashdot, Mr. Shatner. I can see by your high uid that it took you a while to find us.
If you get enough people to do that, he could wind up like this guy.

Well, to be fair, he wasn't speaking literally. I think he meant any manufacturer of dairy products.
Are you a virgin?
What?
Well, if it's not a personal question.
Since when was America a part of Vulcan?
No, a lot of times it really doesn't.

Have you seen the people who work for TSA?

Sorry to be OT, but it reminds me of a joke.
Q: Who did you vote for president in 2004?
A: I voted for the rich Yale graduate.
