With that said, it is sad that Microsoft's UI Beta is far more advanced that even what Apple seems to be planning or providing for its users, Apple is supposed to be the Graphics leader, and once again they are still playing catch up.
You seem to be living in a parallel dimension or something. Microsoft is playing "catch-up" at the moment. LongHorn isn't out yet, OS X has been for years. Microsoft has seen the Aqua colored light!
They're going to give it their best, but don't give into all their hype just yet. Besides, when was the last time Microsoft did something even remotely revolutionary?
This reminds me of the time someone first discovered that there was an unusually easy way to disable/remove certain...uhhh.. important textures from the Dawn demo (nVidia, Early GeForce FX Series).. Musta been embarassing for nVidia, but I don't remember any lawsuits over it. In fact, many people argued that nVidia did it on purpose.
So Everyone Would Just Talk Like This, Unless You've Cracked The Natural Language Problem.
Your consistant usage of capital letters at the beginning of words makes spaces between the words redundant! A better solution: "SoEveryoneWouldJustTalkLikeThis,Unless You'veCrackedTheNaturalLanguageProblem."!!!
Funny.. I was just looking at buying an Nvidia FX 5200 Card myself. Unfortunately 2X AGP is broken on my AMD Irongate Mobo (crashes both Linux and Windows due to a design/signal noise?? issue). Though it does run fine in 1X AGP mode. Anyway, I could really use the card for my DirectX.NET class since we're just starting to work with coding HLSL (pixel/vertex shaders). I don't think I have the time to put together a new CPU and mobo from scratch and I certainly don't have the money to purchase a whole new system. But still, I really *need* pixel and vertex shader 2.0 support so I guess I'm forced into going for the PCI version of the card (since all the AGP versions I see are 8x/4x).
it's amazing what people "expend" on unproductive leisure activities, cigarettes, alchohol, and huge CD/DVD collections.
Unproductive?!?! Now listen here buddy, I've learned a lot by watching my Japanese anime collection over and over and over and over and over and over...
I've learned all the important words in life like "oni-chan" "baka" "ecchi" "neko" and "usagi".
Not only that, but if you pick up a DVD of Spirited Away and Ah! My Goddess, you'll understand the culture more than reading any Wikipedia page.
Right. That explains why we can easily get Project for OS X.
Oh, wait, we can't.
If it weren't for needing Project (because we do believe in interoperability with our customers) we could get rid of 75% of our Windows systems today. Those folks would all rather be on OSX or Linux
Have you looked into VirtualPC for Mac?. You can get it bundled with a licensed copy of Windows XP Pro for $250.
I don't understand what is so funny about that. Recently, Microsoft has been doing much more than Apple on compatibility. At least they offer products that let you run Windows under Mac OS X.
With the same kind of setup in reverse, Apple could have made a version of Mac OS X to run in Windows. Or even a version of Mac OS X that ran without Apple hardware.
Is it possible to run Windows on Mac hardware without Mac OS X being installed? Not that I've seen...
I'm sure Einstein didn't see it coming when his nuclear research was used to build the nuclear bomb and killed 100,000 people in Japan during WWII
Actually, he was in favor of the U.S. developing an atomic bomb. In fact, I believe that he was the first one to suggest it to the president. It wasn't until after the war that he changed his views. See here
Forcing OEMs to include "restore CDs" instead of installation media.
I had a friend who bought a new Compaq laptop shortly before HP and Compaq merged and after a few months, the computer started crashing every 20-40 minutes. He had restore CDs, instead of the regular Windows Installation disks. It looked like the installation completed correctly, but after the system rebooted it would crash everytime trying to load what the tech support on the phone identified as a crucial graphics card driver. We spent weeks and weeks working on it thinking the only problem was that we had crappy restore disks. Finally after half a dozen calls (they didn't want to wait on the phone for the installation to complete), they eventually let us ship the laptop in for repairs at no cost, and a couple weeks later, they shipped it back with Windows XP installed.. But then the laptop would still crash every 20-40 minutes...
So then we were right back where we started... So we sent the laptop back *again* and they said there was nothing wrong with it and shipped it back. I think he gave up at that point and was looking for someone to sell it to.
Sure it does! My XP box can run it off of my dad's computer (Win98) without installing it on my XP box.. Just double click the executable in the Network Neighborhood and it runs locally. Why stream it through X?
Been there, done that, been accused of stalking also, learned my lesson and moved on... No more dedication for me, I'm goin after ALL the ladies now! Keeps me from spending too much time obsessing over any single one of 'em.
It them went on to say that the resonant frequency of a human skull was about 1 Hz but that the PC speaker probably couldn't generate that frequency very well.
Sorry to disappoint you but there is no way that any PC Speaker would be able to generate the resonance frequency required to kill chickens or blow up skulls. I heard that there is this song by RMS that causes exploding skulls but it doesn't use resonance freq to do so...
If someone can name a real strong windows media player alternative PLEASE SPEAK!!
I too am looking for alternatives.
btw, many people don't realize how slow Windows Media Player runs. In Linux, my 600 Mhz Athlon plays DVDs at barely 50% CPU usage. The latest XVid formats at extreme quality sometimes use a bit more CPU at around 80%. In Windows, playing a DVD sucks up so much CPU (90-100%), simply clicking the start button causes it to skip even if you set it to real-time priority. Some of the new Anime stuff up on BitTorrent use the new version of Xvid encoded at extreme quality and they run unplayably slow only in Windows. Don't even get me started on the lack of out-of-the-box codec support. The Microsoft Codec server that WMP automatically connects to if you're missing a codec is actually a really awesome idea. Too bad it doesn't actually serve anything.

Does anybody know of any trusted sites where I can pre-order the DVD from?
Bah, you're both wrong. My Operating Systems Book makes it very clear:
:->
VMS Upgraded = V+1, M+1, S+1 => WNT -> Windows NT
And I figured it out myself that Windows CE = Windows Compact Edition!
If you think that's funny, just don't ask me what the "CS" in Adobe's new product suite REALLY means

No, but it's the 2nd car accident within the past 6 months. The first was in Spain
Chess is better
I agree...
Then try Shogi.
I've decided that I'll wait until someone makes a distro out of it.

Wow, that sucks. Now I'm not going to put any family members in my buddy list.
this paltry 170kbps down and 15kbps.
15 kbps?? That's 1.875 KB/sec! I get almost 28kbps upstream on my 56k modem when I'm lucky and connect at 48kbps or faster.
I'll really be impressed if they can also make the robot summon shiny creatures and look, act and talk exactly like Yuna from Final Fantasy X.

It is not available equipped with Linux for Educational Discounts. If you want it with Linux, try the small business section.
Do you notice anything in common?
Perhaps Microsoft is making some deals under the table to prevent Linux from getting into the laptop market.

Hell, we could even have funny ones like an "any" key :D
Or even better, how about an RTFM key?
