They may be maintaining complete control of development, but SOE's reputation is that they eventually ruin every game they touch. It's going to keep jilted people from even trying the game (like me, my SW:G experience went so sour that I'll never touch anything affiliated with SOE again).
It's not fair, but it's the price you pay when you do a deal with the devil.
As was mentioned below, most companies have slow periods and busy periods.
To elaborate more on my previous post, the company I work for sells autos, motorcycles and power equipment all around the world. In the US, automobiles are what we are known for and what constitutes most of our sales. As you may be aware, most auto companies release their new model year in the late summer or early fall. That means most of my office is quite busy starting about 4 months prior to release. It's not uncommon to see a few people working 8-8 during this time. But if management sees someone working those hours during the winter or early spring, they look into it.
Sure, you could let people burn out, watch them leave the company, then replace them with recent college grads. But what you save in yearly salary you lose in experience and knowledge. Plus loyalty is extremely important to a Japanese business, and here it goes both ways.
Staying plugged in to work 24/7 is putting yourself on the fast track to burnout. Most people where I work (procurement for major engine company) work from home occasionally, but management constantly warns about making it a habit. They are aware that it's unhealthy to devote 9 hours in the office and another 5-6 hours out of the office to work each day. Of course, at certain times they expect long days to get a project done.
You have to draw a line between work and life, before work takes over your life. If these guys have to stay in tune with what is going on at work all the time, they are setting themselves up for less enjoyment of life.
No, IQ is more about the measurement of being able to figure things out or solve problems, not a measurement of training.
I was tested in 2nd grade and ended up with a very high IQ, but my school performance wasn't great. I often rushed through my work so quickly that I would make silly mistakes.. then I would get bored and start causing trouble.
I have never studied, I never took notes, and very rarely did I ever do assigned homework.. I was a lifetime 'B' student because of it. I tested well, just didn't do any of the "filler" work needed to get my grades up. My IQ is 145.
This was an interesting article. I am the oldest of 3 in my family. My siblings are both intelligent, but they don't have the problem solving ability I have.
It was well known the console makers would not sell a game with that rating... so don't blame them when a game comes out with an AO rating and they announce they won't sell it.
I'm sure some of you will say that rule is dumb to begin with.. but hey, you aren't the ones running the company. Put it to a shareholder vote, and the rule would probably remain.
Rockstar needs to work with the rating agency to see if there is anything they can do to get it downgraded to a Mature rating without modifying too much. I'm not familiar with the game, so I'm unsure if it's even possible.
I was going to suggest the same thing, but it was a program what worked with both vent and TS.. unfortunately I don't know the name of it.. guess I should fire up my old PC and see what the program was called.
But like the GP, I struggle with picking out some voices. It's the ones with a distinctive accent that are easy to remember.. or one of three females who are in the guild.
Does "urban" also count the suburbs? If you take a city like Columbus, OH, I think actual population is around 500,000 but if you add in the greater Columbus area it comes in around 1.2 million.
And I'm being lazy now, but does the pentration rate only count who subscribes to broadband or who has it available?
US manufacturing is starting to re-localize. They've found that you get what you pay for. My company has factories in China (and so do some of our suppliers). Our factories there were built to support the Chinese market (our global strategy is to built the cars/motorcycles where we sell them). I've heard it many times that China has no management experience. They do not know how to run the factories, and in turn they are losing the business.
Maybe I missed it, but I didn't see anything in the gp's post that indicated the US doesn't do the same thing.
The one difference, thought, is how much control the state has over the media. I know some/.'ers will disagree, but opposition is not quelled in the US. This is easily proven by the amount of negativity that surrounds Bush.
Conferences are a great way to group universities. You can typically accomplish more when you work as a group than if you work alone. The schools cooperate and compete in things other than athletics, you just don't see that stuff on ESPN.
I see you DON'T live in the midwest somewhere. I'm not denying the amount of religous people here, but in my near 30 years of experience living the area, the people in the midwest are some of the most tolerant folk I have ever met.
And yes, I have seen most of the US.. and no, I am not religious.
Media Edition or not, it's still just software. If MS starts selling the entire machine, then maybe you have a point.
But even then, you're still talking about two different things. The television station is a form of media, just like the press or a newspaper. MS is simply providing a tool to view that media... They aren't creating the media.
To me it sounds like the lawsuit is based off two definitions for the word "media" and also is just a way to get publicity.
This may be a day late and a dollar short, but no 2002 Odysseys were built in the US. Odyssey production in the US didn't begin until 2003. You vehicle was either produced in Japan or in Alliston, Ontario.
Most "imports" sold in the US are actually built in the US these days. Honda seems to not be having many issues with American blue-collar workers. The problems can almost always be traced back to poor designer or low quality material.
(disclaimer, I work for American Honda, so my opinion is going to be biased)
Honda does well because we don't try to re-invent the wheel for every new model. Of course the body style and interior change, but those are cosmetic changes, not mechanical. You'd be surprised at how little the frame/engine changes between models.. The US auto makers have finally figured this out, but now they are playing catch up. Instead of coming out with entirely new frames/chassis for EVERY vehicle, they have standardized a few frames and use those for new models.
It's too damn big. You youngsters probably don't remember this, but there was a time when you could actually see what's going on ahead of you in traffic. Um.... have you seen the cars from the 50s, 60s, and 70s? The hood alone on cars from those decades were longer than my 2006 Civic.
The real difference is Nintendo is releasing games in a new format (wiimote). MS and Sony just keep releasing sequels. There comes a point when the same game with new graphics is no longer enjoyable.
I have always favored Nintendo over the other two because there are more "party" games. I don't enjoy console games alone, that's what my PC is for. Nintendo has games that are fun to both guys and girls to play together.
Not an oxymoron, it's just repetative.
I was thinking of my wiimotes.. I'd say there's much more motion involved.
And even if it didn't completely power the device, I bet they could substantially extend the battery life.

I've read the comment about 10 times now and each time I laugh out loud... co-workers are starting to look at me oddly.. must.. scroll.. down...

Has to be the best one-liner I've read on

Maybe they took a page out of a casino design book.... make it hard to leave once you're inside.

You talk like that in China, and you disappear.
Nothing I read said all 50,000 items were CDs. They said other imposter items were seized; movies, handbags.. etc.
A fake gucci handbag will probably sell like hotcakes for $50... women eat that stuff up.
Sounds like a WoW keylogger post.
Time to sex up the girl!
University of Cincinnati is the "original" UC. Founded 49 years prior to Cal.

Of course the US (and 1st world) won the Cold War. It was a war of attrition and the Soviet Union could not maintain that level of spending.
Sure the USSR would most likely have collapsed eventually if there had been no arms race, but it would've taken much longer.

Oh, you mean see in front of other vehicles.. I interpreted it as seeing in front of your own vehicle.
