Although this ruling is a win for our rights and freedoms, given the deciding 3 terms: "indiscriminately, exclusively at its expense; and for an unlimited period", its clear the ruling is based on the rights of the ISP to not have to face additional undetermined expenses, rather than anything to do with protecting the internet or free speech.

Its been clear for decades if not centuries that the US government is so sold out that it prioritises big business profits above its own constitution, however its sad to see the same is apparently now true of the EU.

Terrible Idea on so many levels.
Firstly, they need to fix the problem, not the symptoms.

Secondly, as most people will now wrongly assume they don't need to bother with 3rd party virus checkers, virus writers will find their life much easier as they only need to make sure their virus is undetectable to the MS checker.

Thirdly, Microsoft has a terrible track record with fast responses to security issues.Their corporate culture of responding slowly or even sometimes choosing to totally ignore new exploits doesn't bode well for frequent and thorough virus checker updates.

OK bear with me. I'm old school and do a lot of embedded development. I do pretty much everything in C or C++.
I am not even slightly in tune with the kitchen sink mindset and all technologies you internet-everything developer types use. I've always thought you guys do way too much layering and usually end up making some heavyweight, overcomplex and slow monster with all sorts of dependencies on stuff like web servers and databases to just to do something I could do in a few lines of native C++.

A JVM based on Javascript seems a perfect example of extreme bloat to me. I'm genuinely interested in whats the benefit of this approach that can outweigh its no doubt massive resource usage and relatively sucky performance, even compared to native JVM?
