I disagree, there is evolution occuring at an observable rate. Probably the best example of this is in antibiotic resistant bacteria. As bacteria reproduces it doesn't reproduce perfectly and as a result small mutations occur. Some of these mutations make the bacteria resistant to antibiotics. The bacteria with the mutations are the ones that survive in an enviroment with antibiotics and reproduce.

I looks like you get assigned one main project you are to complete on a current real world secruity problem. I don't know if this would count towards the three months placement but it looks like it could really open the doors.

The application is due January 1 and they are planning on 50 students total.

IMs and chat can be used in improving spelling with out forcing someone to spell something correctly. Talking in IMs with my friends significantly increased my ability to spell back in middle school and high school. When talking in an IM with spell check turned on I had immediate feedback when I misspelled a word. After correcting the word a few times I usually remembered the correct spelling. I would much rather send something that was correct than send something that wasn't. I don't misspell things because I'm too lazy to put the correct thing in, I just don't know when it is correct and when it isn't. After seeing the correct way enough I am able to replace the wrong way with the correct way. I didn't need something stopping be from sending a message if something was wrong with it. This was much easier and more pleasant than any other way I tried to learn to spell.

The reason they choose to do this on the Escape is that that small SUV platform is more sutable for the technology. You will see more improvements in the SUV than you would seen in a small car.

The original poster makes it sound like Ford is just using Toyota's old technology. Ford licensed the SOME of the technology (only about 20 patents) from Toyota has improved and specialized the technology to work with the Escape. On the other hand Ford has about 100 patents of it's own on the Escape hybrid system. The reason Ford licensed these patents was not to gain access to the easy technology but to prevent the chance of patent infringement. It is not just some out of date technology.

Also being a "first to market" brings attention, usually in a good way and there already is a hybrid car available here but no one has a hybrid vehicle capable of 4 wheel drive with the high ground clearence of the Escape. It is also "cool" to have the best of something, the hybrid Eacape has the best fuel economy of any SUV.

I will definately second leaving instructions behind, the people we rented from didn't leave directions and I ended up calling the ISP to get everything set up (ended up having to use a static IP and such). In the long run I left instructions behind in the house for the next renters.

Anyway you could probably get away with just having a jack that goes directly in to the cable modem, etc if you were feeling cheep.

In all honisty I'd probably just unplug the provided computer and plug my own in.

What I have found works best is Grannick's Bitter Apple. It is inexpensive, easy to apply, safe for pets, and My cat absolutely HATES it. I have nearly every cord in my house covered in it.

Another highlight from that job was a set of vans that had been vandelized by breaking windows putting a ton of produce in them. By the time they made it to the dealership the produce was rotten, the entire parking lot smelled for weeks.

My last highlight from that job was one of our rental cars. One of the customers brought it back with a terrable smell about it. We did everything in our power to get rid of the smell but nothing we did had an effect. I don't think that car was rented out again while I was there.

Frequently these people don't have the computer skills to follow my directions (they really need to bring it in when they don't know what the Control Panel is). Usually if it takes 5 minutes or less I'll do it, if it takes longer I ask them to bring their machine into the shop or I offer to make a service call. The video card didn't survive, a couple of the surfice mount components actually cracked in half.
