  6. Re:woo on White House Briefed On "Potential For Life" On Mars · · Score: 1

This is all wildly inaccurate, but I remember reading a while (15 years?) ago that it cost $1,000/lb. to launch something into space. Add inflation, fuel prices, landing that something somewhere, etc. and come up with a random number. If Mars were made entirely out of oil, I'm sure we'd be tempted, but oil, like many other fluids, can be heavy and stupid to transport. It would certainly help building/running things on the ground there though.

With exception of Fox News, I think it's generally accepted that most of the media has a "liberal" bias.

This kind of statement gets bandied around a lot, it seems, and it strikes me as truly bizarre. With the exception of conservatives in America, the rest of the world recognizes that mainstream American media has a conservative bias.

Yeah well...when I was flying, we didn't have motors, or wings! We had to walk uphill, in the snow (important for the landing bit) to the edge of a cliff with nothing but a parachute, made of twine and burlap cloth, in case the feathers we were holding in our hands didnt work, AND WE LIKED IT.

But they hadn't invented photography yet, so it's a moot point.

  24. I just grabbed a Dell Vostro on Laptops Screens, Glare or Matte? · · Score: 1

Mi vostro es vostro vos... whatever. Anyway, it seemed like most of the Dell Small Business lines have a matte choice. It's amazing to go into a big box store and not see a single non-glossy option. I'd consider it - maybe - with a desktop screen, but for a laptop, glossy seems idiotic. Any kind of situation where you'd have constant moving reflections (like a train on the LIRR, say) would just drive you nuts. (And by "you," I mean "me.")

I went with the matte. It's comforting, and traditional. :-)
