I had someone in the office once who said they hadn't tried Linux and couldn't because he didnt want to overwrite valueble information on his hard disk, so i brought in a Knoppix cd for him to try, and informed him he didnt need a hard disk to try it, unfortunately it scared him off.
Just seems some people get used to one type of OS and lose interest in everything else.
They will wriggle out of it as per usual.
"how were we to know she was 12" would be the cop out line.
The ONLY way to stop their shit is to make them redundant, and the only way thats going to be done is to make it clear to the record companies that they will lose money as long as they stay represented by the RIAA. This has already been mentioned countless times, but its the truth.
I think that the fix in the old days on games like Space Invaders, Asteroids, Pacman and so on was the fact that is was all so new at the time and was a complete mystery to quite a few on how these games worked, kids of that day wern't thinking of the programming that went into these machines like they do these days with PC's or emulation, so we got into the games more, and our imaginations added to the excitement. Nowadays, people are more savvy to technology and because a lot of the mystisism has been taken away, the magic has gone away (not totally) probably more due to the fact that peoples expectations of technology has risen to a point where it would have to take something completely radically new that has staying power to rekindle our imagination.
I had a REAL idiotic boss, heres a few reasons why i thought he was an idiot...
1. If a couple is his ideas were put into practice they could have put many customers and the company at risk, no common sense at all.
2. He was pretentious and had one of those faces you just want to punch, as transparent as cling film.
3. He lost his job anyway because people didn't feel he was doing his job properly.
Ill probably get modded down for this, but hey. *shrug*
kids who want to do starwars kid follow ups, dress up as the emperor, do an mpeg capture with their cam, and pretend to be talking to a 3d image of their master, whilst going mental jumping around with their golf ball retreivers.
How hot can an AMD chip get again?...
I wouldn't have thought that any processor would produce that amount of heat, allow the heat to distribute within a contained space (which is what the movement is based on) and keep functioning properly at the same time.
You would have to find a way to conduct the heat away from the processor to the end where the heat is going to be conducted to the "lava lamp" and not lose too much heat in the process, also a set of carefully balanced chemicals would have to be used to cause the movement at a lower temperature.
Even though they're not closed probably due to corporate reasons, php.net had an article on this too acknowledging the threat.
European Open Source Development Threatened!
[27-Aug-2003] Today sees an international day of protest against the move by the EU to make obtaining a patent easier within Europe. Such patents may cause Open Source software such as PHP to infringe on existing licenses and new ones, meaning we would no longer be safe to distribute PHP within Europe. Perhaps, as some kids are at that age do (not all before you flame me), he had been bragging about it in an irc chat room, had an enemy/concerned chatter catch wind of it and reported it to the feds with logs and IP information.
Well, it certainly worked for a work colleague yesterday, a rather bossy employee demanded an oracle account saying...
"I WANT IT NOW".
He simply replied...
"No sorry, i can't as this requires paperwork from this person..."
she replied with..
"THATS IT...NOW IM SPITTING SHIT HERE" (shouting in his face).
He simply and calmly replied without showing his anger, distaste and contempt...
"Listen, im sorry, the answer is still no, i cannot override official procedure."
the simple answer is basically, don't give in, be polite but to the point, if they go over the top with you, its their job they risk losing, not you with yours.
Over at Computerworld, they have an article which outlines SCO's plans to revitalize their Unix offering, and market it as a competitor to Linux.
Great!, were all going to be flocking around to buy SCO Unix right kids?
Pfft, you got more chance of the pope having a jam with Metallica. On a serious note Darl, how the hell do you think you're going to release your cobweb dusted SCO Unix to rival Linux when you've alienated everyone and their dog with your FUD and make any reasonable profit eh?
Lets face it me old china, it'll fall flat on its arse and be avoided like the plague the moment anyone catches that "SCO" aroma ~~~~
I got a bit confuseed there for a moment, that transcript was a little similar to an episode of the BOFH.
eddie izzard as doctor who, now all we need is bill bailey as avon in the remake of blakes 7
At least they can pick out the downloaders of the pirate films, just follow the trail of epileptic fits of people staring at flashing dots.
Its a sad state of affairs which was inevitable, had to hit the point of silliness in the UK at some point didn't it.
As has been said before, there has to be a line drawn in patent law on what is generic, and what is a blatant rip off.
Lmao...
*knock knock knock*
"Yes?"
"Hello, i'm from the Linux witnesses..."
"NO THANK YOU"
*SWIFT SLAM*

After all, they know all about prostituting talent ;-)
BeOS was good, but i dont see how it was "technically superior" they were pushing it a bit there.
SCO have got more chance of licking my sack than getting any money out of my moth infested wallet.
"Music Biz to Give File Sharers Amnesty"
rough translation required.
"GOOD NEWS FOR GULLIBLE BASTARDS!!"

Inbuilt chemical analysis would be cool, it could put my hash in a pre programmed safe place if i dropped it in a stoned stupor the night before.
