After reading through this gentleman's site, I think the post over here on/. should be renamed "Guy on internet who complains a lot complains about one more thing." Seriously, with gems like "I’m quite glad that radios in the workplace have largely been replaced by headphones." and subject's like "Talk to your children about their shitty taste in music." merely posting this over here is troll feeding. If we were to replace the summary as well I would do it with the classic "Old man yells at cloud" image.
In the title it's "Standard Kilogram Gains Weight", in the description you say "variably increased in mass". There _is_ a difference between weight and mass. I understand that the minutiae of this may be lost on you since you're sourcing articles from pop news sites. Care to update one of those to reflect on this? Is this due to the acceleration of the Earth (weight is a function of mass and acceleration)?
Let me take a moment to point out that using the wifi or atms at the hotel as well as making software updates during DEF CON all are squarely in the category of "babytown frolics".
This is actually a piss poor summary of the bill. Having contracted on a number of government sites let me say that through no attempts at such, the buildings act as Faraday cages. Anyone who read the bill would have noticed that they're talking about using femtocells to improve reception of cell phones throughout the buildings. Additionally, considering the widespread use of Blackberry devices, this would allow them to continue to the roll out of of VoIP which has been happening (at least in both Dept of Treasury and Dept of Commerce) which would lower some of the costs associated with the mobile contracts. Considering the high number of employees with these devices and at 15 million dollar price tag, I wouldn't be surprised if this produced a cost savings within 2-5 years.
I realize that things of this nature are becoming less and less common, but a ticket should be just that. A bearer instrument which has the ability to be transferred. Many people don't even know what a "bearer bond" is anymore and the ones who do have mainly just watched a few heist movies.
Also, isn't that ostensibly what the "ticketing fee" is for? Actually providing a ticket?
Agreed. Similarly "the new tetris" (N64) was a household classic when I lived in a group house with a dozen people fighting over the 4 controllers all night long.
Did you read the article? I mean, sure it is a cat and mouse game, autonomous system manipulation and IP based forensics goes a little beyond the "characteristics of the message".
I can't speak highly enough of this book. For years I've been struggling through a similar type of dilemma (systems administration to technical director), this book i bought recently rules.

It's not that its "hip" to own vinyl. People produce vinyl because it's more feasible in small quantities unlike CDs. For example, my band sick fix. We just finished a 2 week tour. Basically sold 50 copies of our record the first night at a basement show and had to scramble to figure out what to do the next 2 weeks.
Second, it gives you more room for artwork. Third, it's better for audio archival (i have plenty of CDs from 1988 that are pitted being stored in jewel cases on a dark shelf) while i have plenty of records produced 20 years before i was bornn that still sound perfect.
So besides the economics, aesthetics, & archival reasons? Yes you're right "audiophile" lo-fi/no-fi acts are getting into the game and "squeezing in" on punk/hardcore acts like mine. But you know what? I'll keep producing & collecting vinyl of bands I'm into and you can keep getting all your tips from the jackasses at Hydrogen audio who are buying $700+ turntables.
You have to understand that there are multiple "markets" involved in the production and consumption of the media you're talking about. It seems that point was missed on you (and i won't even start up on the DJ sector).
The article was absolutely horrible. By reaching the end, I felt like i had read it twice. The author kept repeating their facts without any citation. I'm not questioning that "over 500 soldiers have lost limbs in the war" or that the FDA "took less than a week to review and clear" the device, but did they really have so little to go on that they couldn't say anything more about this product?
with the state of the economy, pensions, social security, medical advances you'll be working till you're 70 anyways so you've got a good 20 years of employment ahead of you (assuming you already have a degree and are making a concerted effort towards getting another).
I wish i could say I was excited with this. Unfortunately, it's probably another project put together by individuals who don't 'get it'. Simply including Audacity & video editing software into a distribution doesn't make it multi-media centric. You have to include packages to make use of specialized AV hardware which currently don't exist.
Currently I run a 24 track based home studio and would love to convert it completely to linux. Alas though, until drivers are created for Mark of the Unicorn (MOTU - http://www.motu.com) hardware this distro is just more chaff waiting to be swept up and forgotten.
True, true.
What's even better is the use of syslinux with a kickstart server to PXE boot all of these things we've mentioned (which, in a datacenter situation is pretty boss. you don't even need to carry the CDs).

Problem is, dude was from UC Davis, not Cambridge.

How about hitting on the bosses?

nice job.
Good thing they're dropping Linux support.

rigging a blood supply is no big obstacle.
Good luck going through customs or making a withdrawl trying to look nonchalant while placing a severed finger on the pad.
"Oh, uhhh, yeah. So about that. I had an accident cutting my bagel while rushing out of the house this morning. It's cool though, don't sweat it."

you're obviously not on a mac (well, most people aren't) but it's especially painful on a mac. OO.o, neo office, the whole pack.
or the big news right now, Colony Collapse Disorder.

no, thats democracy in action / wired for change where i work.
Department of health and human services (office of families) uses it to serve all of the files to their webservers.
While i find this product fascinating...

I can't lie. The inner 14-year-old suburban white male in me thinks this kindof rules.

"there's nothing DRM-specific about the Intel architecture"
Actually, you're the one who is 'freaking nuts' as you like to say. The trusted platform module (tpm) that is an integral part of the intel architecture on both pc & mac.t ure#Trusted_Platform_Module
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple-Intel_architec
you take that one, i'll take:
se.xxx
and goatse.xxx
