  1. Re:MythTV on Windows Media Center Edition vs. The World · · Score: 1

I was looking for something simple to setup as a front end for stored video /audio/photos as well as watching TV, basically a pretty/simple interface. MythTV seems to do all this and would seem ideal. I have a suse 9.2 box but am a relative newbie to it. How hard is it to setup? Also sorry for being OT but after poking around for a bit I found KnoppMyth, presume this would need to overwrite suse to work? (debian based distro and all :)). Thanks for any input

I agree completely its their right to make it a closed product that works only on windows and only plays windows media. The distinction is bundling and the fact that they are a monopoly.
The old netscape example, consider Firefox vs IE. If today there was no bundled IE and a user had to choose between IE and Firefox (make a conscious decision) what would their decision be based on?
    1. Media Hype
    2. Word of Mouth
    3. Quality of the Software
Now compare Firefox's odds of gaining significant market share with how its been doing right now? The face of the matter is by being pre-installed Microsoft has been able to get to the point where their product IS the internet and the reason isnt that they have a better product but that the user can get by without knowing that there are other products.

One word... Monopoly. the average joe that pirates doesnt do it to save a buck (yes college students and a bunch of techies etc do) but because of its sheer convenience. step 1) www.suprnova.org step 2) download tv show that hasnt been broadcast in the us/uk etc et step 2) download show that u missed last night? step 2) download other stuff step 3) watch/enjoy stuff step 4) buy stuff when the dvd's come out? Take the monopoly away and there is CLEARLY a market for online distribution of media which a significant amount of people find convenient. Supply that for a reasonable cost (compare cable costs for the total amount of channels for a month divided by content and it comes out pretty cheap) and a lot of people will stop pirating cuz the alternative would be convenient. Yes you'll still have cheap-asses pirating stuff but if one enjoys something they want to 'payback' the creators as well. OT Rant: Our society itself is fucked, rock stars / tv stars shouldnt be making money hand over fist, that should be able that contribute to science and education, stuff like that. lower the cost of media, increase the amount of artists it supports (larger middle class?) redistribution of wealth n all that

America attacked Afghanistan, direct reaction , extremists won a series of elections in Pakistan for the first time since its creation...
The more badly america pisses people off, the more they'll try to hurt america, the only avenue for hurting america at the moment appears to be Bin Laden hence the support he has, stop the hypocrisy and 'slowly' but surely people will stop hating america...
The reason people are anti american is the hypcrisy evident to most people that follow media that is not american :) (any other country would do)

Factor in all the communism induced paranoia and how the US made sure to quell any tendency of muslim countries to align with the USSR (assassinations / coup's etc) , see a lot of reason people to distrust america

Yes most muslim countries ARE fucked up, how many of those were NOT colonized? how many of those havent had US/CIA backed dictators? I'm not blaming the US for their problems but credit where credits due, we did fuck them up just as much as they themselves did/are doing
If you're referring to the period from 600-1700 or so 'unilateral action', dont remember there being the UN Or international law or any country that 'consulted' others before invading, kinda what progress is all about, most countries 'agreed' NOT to do that anymore within the past 50-60 years :)
