Slashdot, I implore you. Get off your collective geek asses, take a few clueless end users under your wing and help.
you got a lot of nerve to ask that from a bunch of mostly self-taught persons. there is a wonderful feeling of accomplishment when you figure out something for yourself, and i cant help wondering why people need constant hand-holding for everything computer related.
all the information you need is right there at your fingertips. if you `have better things to do with your time than dig around' maybe you should take a course. someone will teach you all this magic stuff.
You and all the people like you, especially the ones who mod this crap +4 Insightful need to get out of mom's basement and actually go meet an "average person".
you and all the average people like you, that dont get any mod points, need to stop *demanding* free advice from the basement dwellers and actually go figure out some shit for yourselves.
i know this might sound flamish, but you are not *entitled* to anything, and especially you cant expect people to take you seriously for pissing and moaning that you got flamed/rejected/whatever by whoever.
also, geeks like challenges. of course they will not jump right out of their chair when you ask them to help you figure out why windows BSODs. but try to get help with troubleshooting some funky netboot process or a pesky router console and see how that goes.
you know, its weird how all these `socially skilled outgoing average persons' have the most problems relating to different kinds of people.

one of spooks nice features is the multipart jpegs it can send over http. insta-clients everywhere [the browser supports it]. i use it with a couple of el cheapo cams and i couldnt be happier.
i think the checksums are stored allover the place, but i know that the ones from the official debian repository should be verified.
i am not familiar with the way that apt works, but i refuse to believe that the makers of one of the top distributions, are fucking idiots.
Every few days, I log in as root, run apt-get, and my machine talks to a debian mirror. It downloads and installs whatever the mirror says is newer, even including apt itself.
The administrator of the mirror I use (ftp.demon.co.uk) effectively has root access to my computer.
youre joking right? doesnt aptget, like any sane package manager, verify checksums?
For anyone who is not either a blogger or a news junkie, RSS has little to no use.
nice generalization. i use rss for keeping up to date with warez, product lists, security patches, version updates, weather and visitor spying for my sites. and news yes, but thats a low percent of my feeds. also, with one click i can get a birds eye view on 16 sources of information.
if you automatically associate rss with blogs and news sites, maybe you should take a closer look on `teh interwebs'. because theres a lot more stuff there.
you can make the SHORTCUTURL point to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%s et voila, search avoided. it will save you quite the few keystrokes, as you would only have to type
me too! but seriously, i run 2.0.2/current at home on a couple of boxes (along with slackware and *gasp* w2k) and its great. small, stable, elegant, has a wide selection of packages (with stellar management, i might add) and a whole array of nice toys to play with. its strongest point, imho, is the separation of the base system from the extra software, which also goes for the other younger bsds out there.
If somebody could show me some in process caching that'd take me a long way to ditching php. I don't mean caching to disk either. Caching to disk is much slower than memory. Ideas?
the `farmers' how you call them (peasants really) get reimbursed for the destroyed birds. the only problem is that the idiots, instead of helping, stash the critters in various places.

--EORANTwe have ruby since 1995. whats your point?

im not saying thats what they are using, just pointing out that there are companies that provide that sort of intelligence.
wow you must be some kind of psychic. i can see the emacs vs viiv jokes now.

yeah, magic.
This is a bit scary how they figured that out.must be that conspiracy everyone is talking about

if you use firefox you could advance from the stone age very quickly.
who loves BSD! I still do!

what else can be said, its great that *the* bsd is still alive
another delicious feature which we shouldnt overlook.
free as in beer. and as other people have pointed out, you cant really beat the performance that the xen approach gets.
But Lisa, not watching the ads is like stealing TV.

idea.gamespot sez its `great'
i don't think any university teaches "game programming".
you sure about that?the locals aren't trying to protect their birds...
yes you are correct. they are only playing hide and seek with them.the `farmers' how you call them (peasants really) get reimbursed for the destroyed birds. the only problem is that the idiots, instead of helping, stash the critters in various places.
as it happens, pkgsrc integration is planned for the next december release.
if your model is supported then this might help you.
