    actually, they do have ISO images, SuSE 9.3 has 5 ISOS for CDs and 1 ISO for DVD, all from Novell, although they were released a couple months after the retails.

    There is something wrong with making money if you are a non profit organization!
    Besides: There will be no change to the development process and end-users won't notice much difference either So, whats the point?? If there wont be any improvements in the development, nor the end-users will see any difference, whats the profit for? Mozillas whole mission was supposed to be development of non-profit Free Software (Libre). Im not against feeding those who work hard for something, but thats not making profit, thats merely covering costs, so i cant see why a Not For Profit Foundation has to make profit through a For Profit Corporation...

    I mean, come on! Opera, which has the thiniest market in the browsers and is commercial, is full featured and fully standars compatible!!!

    Actually, he mounted it in a Mac Mini to see the partition table. Then he moved it to a Linux box (dont know if PPC or x86) to "study" it.

    You could try one of the many GNU/Linux LiveCD distributions available. Some i recommend: Slax, SimplyMEPIS, PCLinuxOS, Ubuntu and ofcourse, Knoppix. Just in case you dont know, they work right off the CD/DVD drive, you dont have to install anything and you dont risk screwing anything up. Just insert the cd, boot from it, and get to know those beatiful Linux desktops available :) Regards.

    Bad enough companies have to dodge copyright, trademark and patent infringement cases all day for things they actually do. Add to that cases that they had little or nothing to do with, but they might have some document that some other company sent to them.

    I dont know what you have been reading, but they had something to do with it, thats why they are being ordered to stop shreding documents!

    If i tell you to jump to the river and you do it, and die in the process, is your fault for being stupid (maybe if there are prossecutors, there could be allegacies about psicological disorder and could sue your pants off, who knows), BUT, if i tell you to jump to the river, and give you money for doing it, then im much more liable if something happens to you.

    The same applies to Intel and every company who accepted the pressures not to sell AMD cpus, they are as guilty as Intel.

    Although i use it on a daily basis, on my home and at work, i dont think Gaim is the best solution, in fact, i use it because is the only multiplatform/multiprotocol client i could find, there were others, but they were even worst. If Gmail wants to get on MSN Messeger service, they probably should support (or create from scratch) a good new and revolutionary Sofware Libre IM interface, just like their Webmail. Probably using Jabber protocol, which is not only Free but standard (uses XML) and it also supports "gateways" (so you can connect to see people in other networks --msn, yahoo, etc...--).

    Well, i dont think P M is the right thing to use, i see them much more as a mobile processor, and going throw the process you talk, its not going to happen any time soon, so i dont think AMD is going to have any overtime if they keep the pace (several paces that is) ahead of Intel as they do now. Anyway, i liked this post much better than the previous, good info.

    are a (ilegal) media downloader, in that case, you are considered almost a "terrorist" by the RIAA/MPAA and get sued and jailed waaaaay more than if you steal a CD at a music shop in real life!

    So, although its true the users shouldnt have to keep their own stuff safe (coz, ideally, its private and no-one should ever touch it without permission), they must, just because there is Evil People (tm) out there, you know? And not necessarily they are hackers, there is also a lot of scripty kiddos and all kinds of perversed companies that in the search for revenue sell their morality and ethics to the best bidder.

    Just in case you didnt know:

    Opteron is from AMD... so who cares if it tripples the performance of a Power5??, it also tripples the performance of an Intel x86 (im exagerating a bit --obviosly--, although taking cost/performance in the equation, its not _that_ far away ;) too!

    Actually, they will have the joy of choosing to edit the config files by hand (text files editing) or use one of the several GUI tools most distros now include (Mandriva Control Center, SUSE YaST, RedHats one --dont know the name-- or even KDE and Gnome control panels). Good thing we can turn GUIs off.

    Also to your parent, what are you talking about when you say Debian, *BSDs or any other distro dont have that "added value"??? Last time i checked, every distro had its: Word processor, Datasheet processor, image editors, image viewers, instant messagers, web browsers, and some other 15.000 apps (Debians 7 binary CDs tell you something?), if THAT isnt added value, then hit me and call me Martha.

    Im against all kinds of discrimination, i do make fun of some things, just like everybody does, but those commentaries fall in the same category as the fat, thin, short, etc... kind of ones i make. I also think everyone has the right to express themselves while they are not hurting/offending someone without previous consentiment (like a discussion about religion, if you are discussing about it, usually you get ready to get all kind of comments, although some may be harder than others).

    I couldnt agree more with you about this guy (your parent post i guess), he is totally wrong. BUT! i cant belive you are such a naive (or whatever you call it) person:

Did you skip that all those classes in elemtenary school where they teach tolerance, what prejudice is, that its bad, and about diversity.     Come on, America is no example of nothing related to Liberty or even Democracy when it comes to international order, and now, with laws as the Patriot Act, they arent being even in the domestic order!

    Just as a disclosure: I must admit im no fan of North America in any way (USA as a Country, not every person in it, but those who represent them), they have supported all types of prosecution around the world, supported dictatorships when it was for their benefit, and done a lot of wrong in the name of good (or liberty or whatever).

    Unfortunately, this will probably mean OpenLDAP will fade into insignificance, but I may be wrong ! At first i thought indeed you may be wrong and actually OpenLDAP may have some benefit from this, but now, i think the most benefit will be for Netscape Directory, as this one is under GPL (most part at least) while the other seems to be under a BSD license. If im not wrong, BSD cant access GPL code, but GPL can use BSD code. Am i wrong?

    they dont run the tracker for each torrent, if you pay attention to the torrents, you will se that they are from official sites (most of them), so the tracker are at the official distro sites.

    Damn it! you mean it will last for another 270 years??
    I dont think its inmortal, but your "British Empire" association seems pretty accurate, right now, Microsoft is one of the companies ruling the advancements on technology (maybe not with innovation, but they have the Holy Cow (TM)), as such, they have the power to bend it to whats better for them.
    For example buying third world politicians to implement abusive plans as the one going on in Argentina, called MiPC (in English, MyPC, yes, as the icon on the windows desktop) where the siglas come from "Mi Primera Computadora" (My First Computer), where you get a total 'no-future' crap PC (128mb ram, celeron 1.8ghz, 40gb, 15 inch monitor) for about 700 dolars (loaded with WinXP and some other crappy MS soft as Works). Ohh but wait, you can pay it in 40 little monthly fees, that is, almost 4 years with a computer made to be obsolete at the end of the current one (or maybe the last one). This way, they are assuring a base of around 400.000 (expected) users, which by other means, would NEVER bought a Genuine Windows (TM). i think thats assuring a good user base...

    Actually they _do_ that.
    And i mean 'they' 'coz its two of them, ATI and nVidia, both do it.
    For instance, i know a guy who used to sell 9500 modded to 9500 Pro (announcing the mod, more or less like Companies now do, and sell a "secure overclocked" card), that is activating the 4 extra pipes on the board and overclocking a bit. Most of the times he would convert them without a glitch, but once in a while they would have some "artifacts" (wierd textures and such) display on some benchmarks or games.
    I guess the saving for the companies lays in not having to test (QA assurance) those extra pipes or the clock rates, not in actually placing them in the board.
