What about a lawsuit against the parents of the kid for raising him to be a killer instead? Hey, if we're starting to blame people for his behaviour, shouldn't we sue the ones who had the most influence on him?
Problem is, he doesn't really say much other than "we have competition in many places, we'll keep working to be the best". Typical marketdroid stuff. The funny thing is that one of the things he mentions is that they'll be trying to be #1 in "Security". Heh. One can only hope...
I don't think it's a 1:1 ratio for the time it takes. Last time I tried dumping an MP3 into a WAV with Winamp (quite some time ago) it took mere seconds to decode and save the WAV.
You'll find that if you are not a dumb user who opens every mail attachment you get from h0tchixx0r@hotmail.com and are competent enough to patch up your machine on a regular basis, the need for an antivirus is pretty much non existant.
>For example, so long as Google's servers are hosted in the US, the only thing France could do is block their country from accessing Google's servers, and that isn't going to happen.
Actually, to have a.fr domain you have to own the trademark of whatever the domain you're registering is, so my guess is that google has a registered subsidiary/company in France; so, google would have to pull completely from there (losing the.fr domain and going for a fr.www.google.com or something like that) if they don't want to comply.
The GHz figures do mean something when you consider that the P4 is having trouble hitting the 4 GHz. Somehow they've managed to get a processor that runs stable and cool enough at those speeds, and that's something to be reckoned.
Is it me, or does the defense of Kazza & Co. really blow? A paranoid person may think that it's being done on purpose to sink Kazza and get an example of how P2P networks can and should be closed after an undisclosed exchange between the RIAA and the Kazza executives involving the Cayman Islands and/or thick brown envelopes. I don't think anyone could forge better evidence against them even if they tried, and they just happened to leave a paper/electronic trail of all those discussions about their less correct deals. Right.
> municipalities shouldn't build wireless networks because it's anti-competitive
Couldn't we say the same about street illumination, waste disposal or sewer networks? It's another service, and if the municipality thinks that it would benefit the whole community to put a wireless network in place, why shouldn't they get that service with the residents' tax dollars/euros/cookies?
>but does the fact that you pay for access to a web site allow you to launch a DDoS attack on it?
A DDoS? No, no, this was more like a slashdotting, not a DDoS, you had people logging in with their accounts (one each) and congregating in one of the available areas. You can argue that a/.ing isn't a very nice thing too, which I won't say I disagree with.
Also, I find it rather sad that the server went down with just that. Bliz is still way too far from their vision of massive PvP faction raids if the server can't handle these many gnomes.
>Copyright violation is theft. Why? Simply because everyone else says it is. That's how words get definitions in the English language, through usage.
In this case we're talking about the "stealing" in their legal sense (remember? they all talk about this being "illegal", look it up). The legal definition of theft is different from copyright infringement. Yet you're trying to confuse this by talking about the colloquial use of a word. Does it mean that something "good" will always have a taste similar to sugar because it can be referred to as something "sweet"?
>Maybe it's time for you to get over your hangups instead of trying to change the world to suit them?
Maybe it's time for you to get a fucking clue? Just a suggestion, mister AC.
Then I've taken a physical product from you and stopped you from using it, I haven't copied it. The only way I can "steal" the profit from you is to go, gun in hand, to your office and steal your money, take the physical bank notes away from you and into my pocket. This isn't about copyright infringement being detrimental or not, it's about it being theft, and by the defitinion of theft it isn't.
The guy who sells CDs with a bootleg of a film is benefitting from copyright infringement. The other guy who breaks into a warehouse and steals a whole bunch of CDs or DVDs to then sell them is benefiting from theft. They're both illegal, but they're not the same. Pretty fucking simple isn't it.
>You aren't stealing the product, you're stealing part of the profit that the producer would have made were it not for your illegal activity.
That's bullshit, if only for the fact that more people will purchase your product for free than for X dollars. It is doubly so in this particular case (where things are on the net in peer to peer networks) because the ones that infringe the copyright don't make money off it, so they aren't stealing shit, much less "profit".
Is Intel's 40% market share. Honestly, when I read that the biggest market is for the lower-end cards and the big guns are most for marketing and prestige I didn't imagine it was such a difference.
They haven't gone after Bram Cohen yet. You just try first with the guys who are making money off the P2P program to see if you can put some liability on them, then keep sliding down the slippery slope until you can nail the guy whose program is used for notorious legal purposes (Linux ISOs, World of Warcraft, Anarchy Online, game demos in a few gaming websites come to mind). Just wait.
>Why don't you tell us exactly what you need to do with a PCI slot that you cannot do with a USB peripheral?
Nice try, but no. The reply was "My PC's entry-level PCI video input card (ATI TV Wonder VE) cost me $50 new in box at Best Buy". I don't have to tell you if you can or cannot do the same with a USB device, rather that with 50 bucks you get a PCI device with shitloads more functionality. And if you go for a bit more you can even buy one you can use to plug in a second monitor and have a second display.
Of course, if you're buying apple products you won't mind paying almost a hundred bucks more for the same functionality.
> Links to ATI's website won't cut it, you need to make your argument yourself.
Funny you say that to me and not to the guy I was replying to. Funnier even that you obviously missed the argument.
Well, I have a Fujitsu-Siemens LOOX PDA with the cell phone add-on. If you couple that with a 1 Gb SD card, I have a pretty good mp3 player as well (and if you don't need the phone you can take it out and put a X Gb CF card in, I have a 1 Gb one that I use for both my digital camera and mp3s, depending on my needs).

I never said it wasn't, so thanks for the non-sequitur. Care to try again?
> Thank you, Captain Obvious. Now, care to argue/refute his points?
No, because I agree. But copyright infringement isn't theft, and I'm tired of dumbasses who try to mutate the meme just by incesantly repeating it.
Here's a paper copy of the device:

I've got another newsflash for you, copyright infringement != stealing.

Justice Radio has been doing pretty much the same in City of Heroes, specifically for the Justice server (funny that).

Yeah, but you can always blame those evil commie pirates of the internet for it instead of acknowledging the problem.
Will the audience be able to decide if the Sim takes a toilet break or soils himself? If the option is there we all know what will be chosen...
