Don't you have a few specific major distro's you can choose from? SUSE, RedHat, Mandrake, Debian or if you do't wat Linux go for a BSD or a Mac, or Windows (which do you go for? 2003 professional? XP? Media Center?)
I suppose I don't understand your problem with Linux's choices. I'm generally a Linux neophyte, yet I see little difference when installing RedHat, Mandrake, and Windows (except that my wireless card just works with windows).
Consider it something good for their self-esteem. If someone fails in romance IRL, it might make that person feel better about himself/herself if he/she can succeed in virtual romance. I know when I was younger I didn't succeed in making friends IRL, but online I had a ton of friends and that always made me feel better about myself.
There were a couple of great Lucas Arts Star Wars games. Both Tie Fighter and Star Wars Rebellion are among my favorite games. Now all they need to do is remake Rebellion into a multiplayer game.
IMO consoles are best for games that are more social. I use a gamecube and a ps2, but usually I only play multiplayer games with others in the same room (Worms 3d, smash brothers, mario kart, etc...)
Maybe they're just trying to get me to buy brands that they have a better margin on.
I think that's called upselling. The do that at some bars also, ask for a whiskey and coke, and they try and get you to buy Jack instead of the well whiskey.
The CompUSA near me was really backed up, so they opened up a checkout line for credit card only, to me it seemed as it that line was going faster. These days it seems to me that sliding a credit card and signing with the electronic pen is a lot faster then paying in cash and waiting for the cashier to figure out the correct amount of change.
I fell for that today...the first email virus I've open in years... I just had to report my stupidity, but who'd think that a virus writer would use a password protected zip file?!?!?!
I should of quoted what part of the message I was replying to, which is "But, since it depends on a user downloading, extracting, and running something"
Since a user must still install w/o being connected to the network and then change a system setting in order to not get a virus, I belive that my point is still valid, that one doesn't have to explicitly run an app to in order to get a virus.
couldn't a company build something similar with portable harddrives and software to allow the user to "dock" thier harddrive to a particular computer? Add some extra hardware to allow music to be played and your set. An iPod could be used and the portable harddrive, and then all one would have to do is build the software.
A few months ago on my campus you could get a virus on an XP box within 30min of installing the OS. Didn't even have to run an app, just install and wait. Often the virus would hit before you could update the box. The only way I found to get around the problem was to get the patch on a CD and do the install w/o connecting to the network. Is that considered user error?
Seeing as how me and my buddies use StarCraft sayings while playing cards, drinking, or at the gym, I personally have to agree that video games are social. I even helped my friend improve his bowling by telling him to be like the battlecruiser, "Take it slow.":)
I just went to chevy.com, and the most expensive vette you can get is 60k (and that's if you want the special edition z06. You can get a fully loaded z06 (non-special edition) for 54k and a low end vette for under 50k.
Also, make sure you account for inflation and the extras you get in today's cars when you compare.
Ummm...I don't know how you installed Firefox, but there's an option (tools->options->general->make default browser) to make it your default browser. On my windows box when I click a link anywhere, it opens Firefox.

I bet a group of people would try that out. Personally I'd like to see it happen, kinda half match.com and half MMO??? (FPS? FPK? shrug).
But the traffic is going to get really bad 100,000 feet.

MS might be able to sue if Firefox looks exactly like IE

As far as I've seen women tend to want SUVs, and men want sports cars. Maybe women want it big, and men want it fast? :)

I think the idea is that you spend a few hundred on a console INSTEAD of upgrading your PC.

If things were delivered in a method that was easy to obtain, then people would still steal it.
The only one of those I watch is Enterprise, and thats only because my roommates like it. As long as I have cartoon network & D-toons I'm happy.

Talk to thier grandmothers...they tend to have great recipies, although you might need to learn Hindi first.
