Exactly, human beings are 'evolving' into fatter, lazier, slower, blind, deaf and dumb creatures who won't even move out of their own filth and simply twitch to order more food from the ever expanding dispensing machine network and play counter-strike using only electronic impulses in their brains. Or something like that.
Just because somebody is improperly trained or doesn't understand the full workings of a device (in this case a personal computer) doesn't mean they are not responsible for what that device does. Examples: Guns, Cars, Fireworks, anything you like.
Actually I think the most appropriate temporary fix would be to cover the device in tin foil, some may even decide to craft tiny hats for their phones...
Honestly I think we are missing something here.. Obviously SCO has discovered some way to make money out of being hated and ridiculed. I'd do the obligatory hate, ?, profit graph but I think you get my point.
Why are we not applauding them for biting the bullet, actually fixing the problem and replacing the affected discs which a lot of companies wouldn't do? Is everybody just so firmly strapped to the Anti-Sony bandwagon that it's impossible for anything sony does to be met with anything but derision and petty insults?
No, and this has been covered before. The evil is locking purchased mp3s into iTunes and iPod with thier DRM. How is that not worse than the whole MS IE thing a while back?
We at Microsoft acknowledge that our new operating system Vista will require users to forgo some of the freedoms they have become accustomed to, we do feel however that these sacrifices will allow us to provide you with the few freedoms you retain in better quality with advanced 'surround freedom' effects and unsurpassed freedom fidelity.
That's what seems to be my greatest worry. DVD for a long time was considered crazy fragile when you compared it to CD, ie if you scratched it it was wrecked. If they are making these crazy multi layer high capacity discs are they not just becoming that much easier to inadvertently destroy?
Depending on who you believe, a trillion (US) is at least 1,000,000,000,000 so $740,000,000,000 isn't much? Hmm, ok. At most a trillion (other than US) can be 1,000,000,000,000,000,000 which would make it $74,000,000,000,000,000.
Exactly, it is like saying that Toyota beats BMW at making cars, they offer products with similarities, a 3 series BMW or a Camry, but you can't compare them really because they are actually completely different products in different markets. Luxury Car vs Family Car, PS3 vs Wii, there is a market for both and there isn't necessarily a huge crossover in those markets like there was last generation.
That being said, I will end up with both, I'll get a Wii first at launch here in Australia then probably mid next year get a ps3 once there are some more games and they have rolled out a couple of firmware updates. BUT both of these consoles are filling different needs for me, the PS3 is for some serious gaming (and to some extent may compete more with a gaming computer) and the Wii is for having a blast with some friends. And for the record the 360 never really interested me, I own both a ps2 and an xbox but I still play ps2 games but only use the xbox for a media box, dunno what it is about xbox but its just not quite there...
They could put Steve Jobs on the ad for the Mac but that man would give children nightmares.
And as for Justin Long, what were they thinking in the first place? How do we market to the mainstream... let's personify ourselves with an actor who is type cast as awkward, weak, somewhat pathetic, vague and dim. It's amazing, he shares our characteristics perfectly! (I hope this person was fired)
Not only is this something that happens with EVERY console launch or in demand hardware in Japan, including at the moment the DS Lite (I don't see any Nintendo bashing going on?), but hasn't Sony actually being taking steps to prevent this, for instance the whole Lik Sang thing,ie Sony trying to shut down people importing consoles into other markets. It's also worth noting that there is nothing inherently wrong with paying people to stand in line for you, if this was instead about a bunch of lazy people paying bums to buy them consoles this wouldn't be on the front page of slashdot (or would it?) and it is just a case of finding someone who values their time less than you, and with queues of several days I can imagine that this is a growing number.
I can see how some people are calling this exploitative but these people are reportedly being paid $170 US (20000 yen) and if we assume that it takes 2 days to stand in line for a ps3 (this may be grossly innacurate I don't know) so $170 for 48 hours work which works out at about $3.50 per hour. Now, that sounds horrible yes, but the minimum wage in Colorado is only $5.15. Now you can decide which is the more exploitative and deplorable, that's not a debate I am going to get into, but it seems pretty obvious that $170 to stand around isn't that bad.
And as for all the 'Look at the fanboi Sony defence' its not that, it is just that some people are sick of/. becoming the GameTrailers.com forums (ie the home of fanboi masturbation).
It's not the DRM that is evil, its the application of it. The purpose of DRM is to protect the copywrite holders, not like you said to cripple the content, that is an unfortunate side effect.
Anyone else get caught by this title...

Oceans Empty By 2048?

and think this was about the future of the George Clooney franchise Ocean's ??. My first response was, Ocean's Empty, that's a weird title, and 2048... George would be like 100, how will that work? I have to admit I was a little disappointed by the actual topic.:(
"Something else to go with these "books" would be high quality lectures by some of the best lecturers in respective field."
I really like this idea. How about paying a modest amount to record and transcribe lectures by leaders in their fields. I think that sounds like a great idea and would be a wonderful resource.
I could see this working well with the simple commands used by a mp3 player, thought control next and previous, play and pause? Sounds good to me.

I think the report was probably misquoted and they in fact found 60 clips of 300 remixed in various horrible ways.

The problem being that you put the words Nuclear and Rocket together and the Russians get really nervous, and nobody likes a nervous nuclear power.

You have to commend him as comic timing with a voice box must be really difficult.
Apparently doubly screwed by Intel since they are mentioned twice in the summary!
It's not it breaking we have to worry about, its having to install iTunes on the aircraft's computer systems to use the damn thing!

well that's about all I have that doesn't sound like some dodgy euphemism.
You're saying that $0.074 trillion isn't a lot?

So in summary, you're wrong.
Why not make an unrestricted install available where the user of below average intelligence cannot find it?

Yep, this should be slow-news-day department, TFA is from October 3, only 41 days ago. Still, I hadn't read about it so there you go.
