This was reported months ago. Heck, I submitted a story (which was rejected) about how SP2 was going to break a ton of apps. Nothing new to see here, move on...
A few years ago CNN posted a link to a recording someone had made of a comet passing by... some hissing, then a minor whistle. Very spooky. I think I still use it at home as my minimize sound.
I'm tired of spending the first 10 minutes of my day rebooting just so I can get to work. Microsoft Outlook 2003, the latest version of the company's e-mail and calendar software, hangs for me about once a day, requiring me to restart my PC.... Asking Windows to shut down is more of a request than a command--it might, it might not. And recently, Internet Explorer stopped opening for me.
How odd... I run Windows 2000 at work and Windows XP at home, and never have to reboot just so I can get working. Outlook's never hung on me. Windows always shuts down, altho on the 2000 box is can take a while. And IE not opening sounds like he's got a virus.
My question for him is this: what all kinds of junk do you have installed on your computer? If a lawyer here at the firm came to me with those complaints, the first thing I'd do is go through add/remove programs, then run a spy-sweeper like program. This doesn't sound like a Windows problem, but a user prolem.
But not everyone. And even not every IT person can work from home. I am a help desk technician, and it would be difficult for me to work from home without the law firm going through the expense of putting in a second phone line and broadband, and then programming their phone system to call my second line when a user dials the help desk extension. I'd probably also want them to install a computer that had all of the firm software on it, instead of using my personal computer.
Or, they can do what they do now, and pay a small fee for a parking space. You do the math.
I have a Bachelor of Science in Math and Computer Science, since my college at the time didn't have a full-time computer professor (a couple of the math professors taught the classes). I took 3 years of Calculus, Linear Algebra, Statistics with Calculus, and Modern Abstract Algegra. I also took BASIC (a requirement, and they wouldn't let me test out of it), Pascal, Assembler, and Machine Logic.
I think I use exactly none of it in my job as a Software Support Specialist.
One would hope that the government would strive to become better through becoming more efficient, and more productive.
I used to work for state government myself. There are so many rules and regulations to go through in order to fire someone (so that person doesn't come back and sue you) that it's simply not worth the effort. The person usually just gets shuffled from agency to agency.
Your next argument will be that I should turn off my radio. This too is an unacceptable argument.
Why? When the public stops listening to things like that on the radio, the radio stations will change their programming.
It means that the public should not be forced to watch or listen to it.
So change the channel. Public radio, like NPR, is usually pretty tame.
I just don't want to be forced to experience it myself.
You're not.
What would happen when the new version of Windows would only set up an internet connection through an approved MS/AOL online service?
Lots of people not using the new version of Windows. 98 for homes, XP for business... who needs Long-time-gone-horn?
I can think of tons of other fantasy/sci-fi I'd rather see, since I've never read the Earthsea books. I figure since I have about 50 more years to live, Sci-Fi has plenty of time to get around to them all.;-)
I bought a Dell in 2002, I may have to dig up the papers to see what brand of RAM is in there. Not that it'd make any difference, we wouldn't see our checks for 2 or 3 years, and it'd be just enough to buy half a stick.;-)
Most of it does come back to the public, through social security...
Which will be completely bankrupt in 10 years...
...medicare...
Which is a joke...
...and national defense.
Do you know what the average soldier makes? If you said anything other than "Not much," go talk to some of the folks at your local base.
Not to mention all the pork-barrel projects each politician does for its constituents.
None of which constitute giving those constituents money or jobs.
The other problem with the chicken egg brewing is for those of us who are allergic to sulfa, eggs, and poultry. We can't get the shot anyways. I'm all for testing new ways to make the immunizations safer for those of us who have allergies.

For any others who might be interested, I found the box set on Amazon.com, but it's only available used.

WOW!! Nice pics!
(go ahead, mod me redundant; I'm encouraging similar intelligent posts)

I remember this debate a few months ago. Next, please?
I'm going to have to look up more of the information about this. Thanks for posting!
"Let them ...start a fire if they're in trouble."
You mean like the one that started some of the worst California wildfires?

Add South Carolina to that list. It's a large, official looking sticker, too. I just roll my eyes and move on...
Soon, copied films will be as rare as students lighting up a joint after their exams.
He hasn't been on a college campus lately, has he?

Thanks, Epson, for promoting stereotypes. I appreciate it so much...
...that I have neither Dish, nor Direct, nor cable.
Just in case you were hoping to get some information out of it. Head thee to Babelfish first!
OK, AutoZone I can see, but DAIMLER-CHRYSLER?? LMAO! SCO has bitten off way more than it can chew. Just hope this doesn't make my car payment go up.

"How can any religion survive that revelation?"
The same way it survived the other revelations.
BTW, this Buddhist sees no reason to lose my religion over the posibility of bacteria on Mars.

SWEET! Thanks for the heads up, I'll look for it.
