There was violence before TV and Games and Movies.
There were farm boys who grew up in peaceful farms that never heard a shot fired in anger or had a punch thrown whom grew up to be Soldiers. There were gun deaths that had nothing to do with Grand Theft Auto.
The reporter (or more likely editor) is a PC fool whom doesn't realize the simple basic truth. Violent Video games save us from wayyyyyy more random acts of violence then they do encourage them. Anyone whose actually played the things in a bad mood knows what I'm talking about. The simulation is a cathartic. The bad date or club cockteases have made plenty a man hate women, if only for a bit. Killing a whore in GTA lets you get the release and satisfaction without actually hurting a human being.
I guess too many of these folks are naive and really believe everything is sunshine and lollypops and don't understand the dark sides we all have. The side that comes out when we get cut off in traffic, the side that wants to slap everyone with a stupid answer. The part of us deep down that wants to be a Viking and Rape, Pillage and Burn. Or they might know they have such a side, but their own morality is such that they can not admit such a side exists.
The first year that DNA got good enough to do identification, about 1986, there was a serial rapist/killer in a small english town.
The solution of the Bobbies?
DNA test every male in town till they found the rapist. The Blooding is I believe the title of the book about it. They kept the DNA on file too. 5,000 locale men were tested, most of whom had albis.
I've got a chance to meet a few when I was working on a college project a few years back that had Nasa ties. Don Pettit, former ISS Science Officer, was up for around 6 months. You'd think he'd be like that Russian who was too weak to walk and had a critical loss of bone density.
Nope. He got up, and with in a week was running 10 miles or more a day. He lost essentially no bone density. Freaking fantastic shape he's in. All the astronaut core is like that. It's all about constant exercise and having impact exercise.
More like HP has a massive compound in the same town. And several of his partners work/worked for HP. I know one of the prototypes was built under another prof who also spends 1 day a week at the printer cartridge factory in town on his way to retirement. Essentially when you talk with someone who spent the last 30 years working on printers, it rubs off and makes you talk about em.
Not to mention that HP has sometimes been good with funding and he might be trolling for some.
Goran runs his truck on SVO, but biodiesel is more viable as it can use any long chain hydrocarbon to make a fuel. I'm an ex-student of his, and work on several projects with him and the group. Actually a good deal of ground work was done by some students of him last year for their senior engineering project.
One of the most common things for biodiesel is A. It produces a large amount of Glycerol that might be economically used (I help test that concept last year) and B. it can be mixed with existing diesel to increase overall engine efficiency and reduce smog.
Since biodiesel is taking pretty much nothing but long chain HCs and using NaOH as a catalyst to reduce em down, and then cleaned (NaOH mostly goes to glycerol if i remember) once the sodium is cleaned out there is nothing but fuel. As a result it's sulfur content is nada. Adding it to regular diesel lets it run hotter and cleaner. The only issue is that biodiesel lacks normal fuel additives used to promote all climate use. Many places have a 20 or 50% mix if they offer it commercially. If you are interested in your self switching I'd suggest looking around for a locale fuel coop. I know the one in C-town has 1.50 a gallon for SVO, and 2.00 or so for Biodiesel.
The only changes you really need to make for SVO is a few hoses changed around. Not recommended always for colder climates with out adding an engine block heater.
Yes, many secular celebrations of Easter now have pagan roots.
But the holiday is the highest holy day for christians. It is the day when our lord was risen from the dead. The day is not tied to the start of spring, and is the one holiday that's date is quite assured of. Or is Passover just another pagan holiday transformed too?
It failed. Costco has a large amount of middle and upper class appeal that sam's club doesn't get. My family has had a large amount of big ticket items there, from tires to furniture to electronics and jewelry. My family has bought at costco. Otoh, Sams club might have mostly the same sort of stuff, but they don't attract the big ticket spenders. They get folks who want the 36 count tp and gallon peanut butter. They don't get folks who buy the huge meat packages or buy a diamond ring.
I know a butcher whom works at Costco, makes like 55k a year. It's damn good retail work, and they have benefits.
It's not that the French or the English can't build em. It's that their force mixture along with their military spending policies and naval traditions don't support em.
Right now only the US and UK have more than one Aircraft Carrier, 12 and 2 respectively. The US has combined more than every other nation, and deploys all of them at sea for extended times. They are multiple classes, from Nimitz to the Enterprise's one off, to the Kitty-Hawk designs. The current French Carrier is considered to be lemon and a boondoggle. It's the only nuke carrier outside the USN, and while it shares some issues faced by the enterprise, the budget and maintenance have been far worse. Until 1996 they had most maintenance done by short term conscripts.
In reality for most nations, an Aircraft carrier is a status symbol, not much else. The Russian carrier is rusting away, and was more of a test than a serious piece of hardware. Almost every other nations carriers are second hand. Heck, only the French and US have true carriers. The British carriers and their future design are all STOVL designs that need a very special aircraft type like Harriers to work at all.
Simply put the US has been doing it for a long time, running them constantly, and has been willing to poor what amounts to entire nations GDPs into carriers. It's not that the USN is better, it's just got the money and experience.
Remember that their parent company VU is one of the world's largest media companies now, has had losses in the range of Bill Gates's entire wealth, and the good chunk of one billion USD that Wow pulls in is the only thing keeping their gaming division afloat.
Folks who play wow know that it's not getting alot of it's profits reinvested. Player theory is like Sony Games keeping Sony's other divisions up, VU is using Wow to get urgent hard cash. Because they're such fucking sad sacks of shit, instead of using enough to reinvest in the golden goose, they're forcing it to lay eggs on a starvation diet. VU is gonna kill wow, ghost was just the first fucking step.
Doctor Rice is a concert pianist whom graduated from college at age 19, got her masters, then worked in State until she got fed up with the Carter administration policies and went back to college.
She speaks Russian, German, Spanish and French fluently. Her academic history is very impressive. She taught at Stanford, and was a Provost there. She was hugely influentially on American policies wrt the Soviets and Eastern Bloc from 1988 onwards. She was a key advisor in the 2+4 treaty, and was considered to be the leading mind in the first Bush's national security council, with her speciality being the Russians.
As for her being non-evil, can't prove it. Hope so. She's been very active in community projects and a large amount of boards from some NPR stations to Boys and Girls clubs.
Condi Rice. You might not like her, but she is freaking brilliant. And rather non evil.
There are a number of bright republicans, but many are shying away from parts of the Bush administration though. They may agree with many political decisions, but there is a sleazy feeling folks are getting from many folks.
A lot of this shit is though is most urbanites don't understand the rural land use issues that are the bread and butter for rural republicans. Farm policy as well as environmental policy. Folks working the land have different major economic needs that greater metro area unions do. As a result there are legitimate differences of opinion as the different groups have different needs and methods.
You can wax on about stupid Republicans, but you oversimplify complex economic and political issues, not to mention stereotype everyone who doesn't share your views as an idiot. I could discuss how blue states are mostly states dominated by a large metro area that has a large amount of uber rich along with vast poor folks who don't give a crap about land use policy and are easy pickings for an urban democratic party. While a good deal of the educated are transplants following jobs. But motivations are even more complex than that, with perception being a key issue.
A Raid Zone is a dungeon in the game that is designed for a 40 man team. Large guilds are built around doing them.
As for the Plaguelands and Undercity: The Plaguelands were once the most fertile parts of Northern Azeroth. If you played warcraft 2 or 3, and remember the paladin Uther, that was his home. When 10 years ago the great plague broke out in the north, the dead rose as minions of the evil Lich king (who is actually an Orc spirit incased in magical ice that demons had doing their bidding). The lich king was able to have control of all the minions at all times. At his furthest advance he controlled most of Lorderon.
However the Lich King was damaged when he betrayed the demons, and had a minion of the demons cast a powerful attack, damaging the lich's ice. The damage let his power start to fade, making the most powerfully willed undead become free. The Ranger queen of the high elves became free and started the forsaken, free undead who want to defeat the Lich King's forces. There are still mindless undead out there, and in the plaguelands, some control of the Lich King remains.
Further, in the plaugelands are the Scarlet Crusade. They are zealots under the influence of demons. They have the remains of several paladin orders as well as the survivors of the plaguelands. They are quite mad and attack any creature they don't know on site, including other humans. Stratholme is the largest city in the Plaugelands. It used to be the jewel of the human north, closest city to the elves. Now half the city is in control of the Scarlet Crusade, the other half in control of the Lich King's minions. They fight constantly, while the undead side is full of Warcraft 3 undead units and structures, with the final boss being the only Death Knight in the game. Near the final boss is a closed gate with a raid portal behind it. This is the entrance to Narrax.
The Undercity is built in the crypts and sewers of the original city of Lorderon. The city itself was all but destroyed in the war, and the undead don't wish to live in the city's above ground ruins. They leave the original throne room in tact as a war trophy.
I'm from Roseburg, and I'm part of his major constancy of rural folks. And I appealed to his belief in the principles of small government, and the fact that this will break Oregon's tech market. While our media market sucks. Really makes no sense for an Oregon senator to vote for, let alone submit.
In Da USA not everyone lives in cities, or within 20 miles of one.
Right now I live 100 miles from a city over 30,000. The closest Metro is 500. I need a car for work. I need a car because population density in my location means that on average I live a decent distance from either my work or stores. If I want a good electronics store, I have to drive 100 miles on back roads.
It's not always an issue of mass transit. Sometimes it's because I choose to be a farmer. Or I choose to be a gravity researcher and live at Ligo. Or google moved to a small town. Or I don't want to live in a rat box metro.
Samus is cool, but the way she's played her Gender doesn't matter. She is a strong professional, but the games are designed is most of the time her gender is irreverent.
What I find to be more of an interesting character are the Phantasy Star Alis characters. The original is prolly the first RPG female lead. She's avenging the death of her brother, and does it in a pink dress. She's the swordswoman of the party and has more hp then the other characters. PS1 was also created by a lead female designer.
Then in PS4 Alys is strong older sister character who teaches the main character everything he knows, and is the strongest character until she dies saving the rest of the party.
Strong female leads don't have to conform to single feminist view, they can wear pretty pink dresses if they want, and still kick ass.
Of course, there is no proof that this will do any good. In particular, the extreme right-wing Catholics of the Mel Gibson variety, like many fundamentalist protestants, have already given up on the pope
Which by definition of Catholic as in union with the church makes Mel Gibson technically a protestant since he reject's the pope's authority over the church. I hate when they say rogue Catholic groups. You can say the same thing about Lutherans.
No. If Einstein is right, then the theory of Newton was flat out wrong. They represent different paradigmas, only one of them can be true. Of course, this does not mean, that Newton equations could not be used for computing mostly correct results under some circumstances. But i don't think one can say, that Einsteins theory enchanches Newtons theory, one totally replaces the other
Newton is still right, but he's not right all the time. Falling bodies fall at the same speed from the same height despite mass (ignoring wind resistance). Objects are attracted to each other, and objects fall in curves. Up until about 1% the speed of light you don't notice the difference between the 2. Apollo was calculated without the corrections of Einstein's gravity. At low speeds the inverse square root factor that characterizes Einstein's Equations of Motion approaches one and simplifies to the Newtonian Equations of Motion.
And there's about a thousand experiments that back it.
Quantum is messy because the universe is. Newtonian Physics isn't flat out wrong. Neither is Einstein's or traditional EM. They are right, to a point.
Einstein doesn't change Newton's laws. They enhance them. Newton's laws hold most of the time, so does EM. But their are cases where things change.
We believe that QM is a good descriptive theory. But it lacks explanation. Energy States of Atoms is pretty much the stupidest thing you can attack because daily there are thousands of experiments that require Splitting and hyperfine splitting to work. You may be able to prove something else can happen, or does, but that doesn't change the fact that modern transistor theory, as well as laser theory such that created the computers and internet depends on these. QM maybe be incomplete, but it's not wrong.
It's Gallows humor. But it's combined with several early 90's references that made it cliche and ended up being humorous. It's not so much an intentional funny, as it works out like that.
Yah, my use was inappropriate.
I'm just currently pissed at a woman and using it as an example. And I'm actually spending most of my aggression on dragons atm.
Poor reporting treats it as a fact.

Hey, before the 70s most folks I knew called it Pascha. That's the best name for it, and most accurate, but angloification happens.
Wow, someone seems bitter.

I'll have to try and find it, but Sam's club was designed by walmart to kill costco. There's a great article about it.

Most of these sites aren't hosted in the US, or in countries that recognize torrents as being pirated material.
Not sure if it's wide open yet. I know basketball has been wide open since the Dream Team in 92. But I think a few sports still have reservations.
