    Retinal Scans and Thumbprint scanners will NOT work on eyes and thumbs that have been removed from the body, or are attached to a dead person.

    + With the password, that would still be useless anyway.

    Completely secure locations require 3 seperate pieces of information for identity:

    something you are: i.e. fingerprint scan or retinal scan.
    something you have: i.e. a smartcard or rfid key.
    something you know: a password.

    This prevents the scenario you describe.

    If you don't have anything worthwhile to say, don't say it. If people continue to abuse this feature, I will have to remove it.

    What I want to know, is does that threat still apply?

    I have a dopod 810 (or htc 3600) running windows Mobile 6, and the slashdot palm interface is useless. Its fine for the old days of gprs and wap, but useless when you have a good HSPD connection and it only lets you see 5 comments.

    Many Australians were Irate that we were walked over by the US in our recent free trade agreement. The US decided that free trade doesn't apply to Sugar or Beef, two of Australia's major exports.

    In some places it is. When I was younger i was given a police warning for Larceny by finding, because i found a cricket bat which had been sitting on the side of the road for a few days. I picked it up thinking it was abandoned, was reported to the police and given a warning. In this state (in Australia) if you find a wallet, and do not hand it in to police or try to return it, it is theft.

    They gps enabled all of the local taxi industry's fleet. All taxis are tracked at all times and jobs are handed out according to the position of the closest vehicle.

    So what do the cab drivers do? Stop in the most profitable area, and remove the gps antenna from the car. The system assumes the cab's gps signal is blocked by a building and further assumes that the car is in the same location. The cab driver then goes home, to the pub, where ever, and waits for the jobs that he wants to come up.

    To think that employees wont do similar things with this system is naive.

    ProjectX. A very good video encoder designed to decode DVB-T (and DVB-S?) streams to mpg and similar. All written in Java.

    Even better in most Australian ATMs, when entering how much money you want, you have to enter the dollars AND cents - even though you can only withdrawl in amounts of 20's or 50's.

    Right, i'll just withdrawl 20.15 cents. What? I cant? Then why did it let me enter it?

    The linux kernel is a good example of this, as it won't compile under anything but GCC.

    I know of people having compiled the linux kernel under the Intel Compiler for quite a bit of a speed increase.

    The distinction is not important. The use of this vehicle WILL create pollution. Because in reality we dont have any 'energy free' ways of filling the tank. This is simply shifting the pollution problem, not solving it. Much like Hydrogen Cars.
