  1. Hard decicision..... on Learning Java or C# as a Next Language? · · Score: 1

Why not learn both? At my university, I learned Java and then C++. They are very similar syntactically (minus pointers and a few other things). I've never learned C# though, so I can't really comment. As to what will be more useful, Cross-platform is good, but I would't think it's as important as one might think (since most, even busnesses, use Windows unless they can afford a very large IT department). And with rumors flying around that Java may have peaked, that adds even more confusion. In your case, I think I'd try to learn one language on my own (Maybe Java since it's similar), and learn another one through classes (which I'm assuming is the reason you can only take one). Then you can put them both on your resume as a language you know, with classroom time spent with the one that may be perhaps most different from what you already know (assuring you can probably code in it).

Nothing worse then searching for one thing, and coming up with a "*ultra-midget-fetish-sex-in-chocolate*" result when your g/f is around.......... That's my biggest gripe of indexers. Too easy to accidently find files. Like search for your g/fs name if you want pictures of her (and she is hooking over your shoulder wanting them), she may see her name come up in a convo between you and your bud that you'd rather her not see.

Yes, I am being hypocritical in some ways I see. It's a typical marketing campaign though. It just seems like when Microsoft does it that it lacks any of the style or subtleness some of Apple's ads. And it seems like most people Apple pays to promote their product are either people that the iPod exists because of (musicians), or people that may be doing something else with Mac hardware/software (while I've always had this image in my head of Gates handing a celebrity an XBox 360 w/ a bunch of money to say they like it without the actor really having and preferences about it).

  4. Sounds like a typical _unpassed_ law.... on Digital Content Security Act · · Score: 1

This almost definitely won't get passed in it's current form if the article summary was right (I didn't read the article itself). There are always laws like this that would effect something or other that aren't really logical for the typical consumer (like this that would make an entire type of common computer peripheral illegal that almost none use for illegal uses other then commercial chopping). Not really newsworthy. There's like one of these a month on slashdot. When something is near being passed and put into law, then I'll be interested.

I'm not a MS fanboy. I'm more of a linux/Mac fanboy, I should hate Microsoft. I don't like how they buy the best (rare, bungie) from the competition, and how they throw much money at getting their consoles popular (celebrities on the XB 360 revealing special on MTV). But from what I've read/heard, I like the XBox 360.... It seems to be much more then a console, and a big step in the direction of a true "set-top box" that I have always dreamed about. Games, PVR (Idk if you can schedule recordings on your WMC PC though), decent downloadable content, pretty good games.... In terms of what would make a new system good (I don't care if PS3 can do this that XBox 360 can't or vice-versa, they are the same generation, and fundamentally the same graphically), I think the XBox 360 did everything pretty good (other then the power brick overheating). In a similar way some of Nintendo's products or the Dreamcast brought on some pretty shocking default features, XBox seems to have a similar unique and good feature set. I don't have one yet, but I hope to get one soon enough.

A said it on an xbox forum when I heard about it (in a slashdotesque bitching style), and I'll say it here. I hate it when a headline is missworded purposely to get more attention.... Arrested for selling pirated games isn't. It's common sense.

  8. Adult Swim's influence really does amaze me..... on Groening Confident on Futurama Relaunch · · Score: 1

I think the driving force behind this and Family Guy being resurrected was Adult Swim, because it's got a unique and growing audience (while Futurama and Family Guy were originally on at times aimed at everyone). It's intriguing as it seems to have become a popular thing, kind of becoming an "outcasts MTV"..... Although this is from a college student, so idk just how popular it is in HS at the moment. The humor in it seems like it may be beginning to catch on with the masses more.

  10. Nice... Another country that may hate the US.... on Testing Drugs on India's Poor · · Score: 1

These better be drugs with minimal health risks... The last thing we need is India's poverty hating US drug companies for doping some of there people knowing it may cause deaths, and in turn hating the US because of it. I have no gripes against hating drug companies since thousands of Americans alone probably die a year due to price gouging and not being able to afford medication that isn't available in generic form yet.... Yeah, it's part of the economy, and drives research...... But I'm sure there are probably a lot of drugs that are sold for way more then they cost to make, thus benifiting the creator for having exclusive rights to selling the drug, and lining their pockets even more w/ high prices.... If I'm wrong about them, someone feel free to correct me (and doing good in another way like donations doesn't make them good, since they aren't the last resort for life in that case).

And freedom of political alignment? Even if it wasn't for research, would they really have the right to invade his privacy if he was trying to start a Maoist communist party? This isn't the cold war. I don't think there is much of a reason to be all uptight about communism..... Sounds like it would actually be a pretty intersting read. Maybe it even has some good points (As works by Marx relating to communism were quite good from what I read in a philosophy class, although a lot harder to implement then speak about). I hope to go to asia someday, idk if I would be able to stand the formality between me and a boss though. There's a certain relaxed atmosphere many US bosses have that you can joke around with them.
