1) DisplayPort is capable of carrying audio, which makes it a (possible) one cable solution 2) I get that the connectors break on campus, because the backs of computers can be open walkways, etc... but for a standard desktop at home? I doubt you're going to get enough traffic behind your desk to cause anything to hit it.
Why is everyone slamming this guy for spending 70k on himself? It's his money, obviously he thought it was worth it. Sounds like he is a better person for it all around. I applaud you, sir. Not everyone is as brave as you are. Not everyone has the strength to face their own demons.
Seriously, you should compare them side by side. Go to an apple store. Start opening up 6 or 7 apps in the same order. When you open the app, it should animate like it's expanding from the center of the screen to fill it and pushes the icons away. When you press hte home button the reverse happens. The app shrinks into the center, and then the icons slide into position from the sides.
On my phone, this animation stutters, skips frames. On the 3GS, it's rock solid smooth.
iPhone OS 3.x is incredibly laggy on first gen and 3G iPhones. The 3GS got a bump in CPU speed, and double the RAM. Compare a 3G and 3GS side by side. The animations/transistions are so much smoother on the 3GS.
For you, I understand that Tivo is better than a smartphone plan. I get it.
But you can't really argue that it's that way for the general public. Money has spoken and _in most cases_ people are willing to front the $80 bucks vs a Tivo, which is why Tivo is in trouble, and Apple is raking in a fortune.
a couple points:
1) 15 years ago, cell phones were just becoming mainstream 2) I'll argue that 15 years ago, people _wanted_ information wherever/whenever - it just wasn't technically feasible, or exorbitantly expensive 3) There aren't many options for non monthly fee cell phone plans - sure there are prepaid plans, but there's some threshold of talk time for which a regular plan makes sense. This point applies to those people. 4) most people have cell phones already. Which makes the data plan upsell easier.
1) There were rumors that you could use a testosterone patch to speed healing/recovery and the dosage amounts would be so minimal as to not be detected.
2) if my first point is true, then simply because it's "known" to only be a long term actor, if it was detected, this could be used as a defense.
You need more numbers before you can confirm your conclusion. You need to know the # of deaths per hour of driving/flying. Simply having the absolute results without context doesn't mean much.
FF is an example of the uncanny valley. You could tell that the "humans" in FF were not real - the way they moved, the way their hair moved... it bothered me on some level, which is exactly what the uncanny valley is.
I know this wasn't the point of your post but, It sounds like you could use a better bike. (Sorry, I'm a cyclist, and I used to work in a bike shop.)
Seriously tho, your bike shouldn't shake AT ALL, coming down a hill at 39mph. It should be rock solid. Seriously, you're worrying me about your safety. And it sounds like you commute everyday on your bike, so it might be worth the investment.
You're right, you don't need to spend a lot of money to reduce weight. It's most definitely overrated, but seriously, try out a low end hybrid of any of the big bike makers (Trek, Specialized, Giant), I think you'll be surprised how much better the ride is.
anyhow, 45mph isn't stupid. It's fun. I've hit that a bunch of times.:)
oh, also, one last thing, you probably thumb your nose at people that have clipless pedals and shoes, but they do make a world of difference in your cycling efficiency. sneaker's soles tend to fold in half, whereas real cycling shoes have very stiff soles, and allow you to transfer power directly into the pedal. And believe it or not, clipless pedals are actually safer than the pedal cages, because you can actually get out of clipless pedals in an emergency. Cages are only useful if you tie them down really tight on your shoes, but then you can't get out of them anymore.
Dude. Someone _died_ here. Where's your compassion?
GP, I'm sorry for you and your friend's loss. I hope you and your friend are doing alright. I'm glad that some good (you reconnecting with old friends) came out of all this.
Um. keyboard layouts are not entirely done in software. There's a big hardware component sitting right in front of you right now. That's right. YOUR KEYBOARD.
and guess what, the instant any child sits down at any computer, he/she is exposed to QWERTY! Good Luck trying to circumvent that one.
the phone pad as a keyboard was used because people were forced into it. There was no other way to do it and text words at the same time unless thru the number pad. That was the phone pad's killer feature - it was with you all the time and that's why people bothered to learn it.
DVORAK has no such killer feature. It might be 50%, 100% more comfortable, but it's not an obvious advantage, enough for regular people to throw away their keyboards and get DVORAK keyboards.
You may think it's pretty low energy to carry around USB sticks, or for people to learn a totally foreign key layout that's not even in front of them. Just like geeks thought it wasn't that much energy for people to download Netscape instead of using the default IE on windows. See how that worked out.
Being somewhat serious here, there will be no keyboard layout war. QWERTY has won the day as the defacto standard. I know there are a few people who will cling to claims of DVORAK being better/faster and they may be right, but the energy/economics/brainshare required to overcome QWERTY as a standard is enormous, and it won't happen.
I think there's more chance of the US changing to the metric system than DVORAK seriously contending against QWERTY.
The EVERYONE ELSE class that you talk about _is_ protected. The guy with the prosthetic carbon fiber legs wasn't allowed to compete in the men's sprint events...

Also there's the Nvidia - Intel lawsuit over producing i-series chipsets. I dunno what the outcome was if there was one tho.
Dude. You're being irrational. Even self-admittedly irrational. The MBA will be sturdy enough. Get over it.

Wow. the keynote isn't even finished and the post went up. We have no idea about networks or prices or sizes. Ridiculous.
Well software/computers are on like a 1 year cycle. Who's sick of an iPhone 3GS and wants a shiny new 4th gen iPhone come June?

not to be a buzzkill (pun intended), but there's no feb 29th this year.

There is the HTML5 web app for google voice... not an app, but it works...

Really interested to see a teardown of this guy.
12.5mm 2.5" drives?
and waiting for DisplayPort audio to be enabled.

interesting. I didn't know that. Plus you wouldn't have to buy the stupid software updates. :)

Good point. I wonder then... if anyone can think of a sport/competition where missing limbs/parts would be considered advantageous?
I"m sure there must be, but can't think of anything right now...
Would they be allowed to compete?
