Ahh the voice of reason! There it is.. all the way at the bottom of the thread.
Lets not forget one more important thing as well. If the Revolution is going to put a lot into emulations of their past systems, pushing the HD is kind of stupid anyhow. Black bars on the sides of screens, or stretched out visuals aren't that great, and as you pointed out the vast majority of people don't own HDTV monitors, so they won't be missing anything.
I can see little Timmy right now, very excited about the XBox 360 he just bought at Best Buy seeing the demo unit, and when he plus it into his television, he's like "Ohhh Fudge."
Of course, having an HDTV I wouldn't have minded the support.
My bad. I have Wario Ware, I've played the hell out of it, I've opened up all of the extras. I guess I called it a port because it didn't do anything remarkably new except for using the stylus, a majority of the games were the same, just, well, modified to run on different hardware. Instead of pressing a button for the light gun, I'm tapping on clay pigeons. Instead of using my controll pad to tilt something, I used the stylus.
Anyhow Twisted! should be a blast. A little tough with the DS but fun.
Nintendogs is just a knock off of Dogz and Catz on the PC;)
I totally think there will be original games for both. Nintendogs, Kirby Touch! and Meteos to name a couple. But what DS games are people really waiting for? Gasp. Mario Kart and Animal Crossing.
People have gotten so accustomed to the GBA that they totally forget that a ton of GBA games are just ports of SNES games.
A ton of DS games will be ports of N64 games, and I can see a lot of PSP games being ports of PS1/PS2 games no doubt.
The price is definitely high, but then again you're getting a PS2 in a handheld, not an N64, and not a GBA. I'm really really surprised they didn't push to $300 at first. But I'm sure people will get their wishes shortly and a price drop will happen. Hopefully games will get cheaper as well. I think we've all been very spoiled from the wonderful price drops of GBA games to a standard price if $19-$22 new, that's for sure!
As a Nintendo DS owner AND a PSP owner, I find it ridiculous that people are complaining about the PSP only having ports and that being the specific reason that it sucks.
Has anyone really noticed the majority of the DS library? Super Mario 64, Warioware (pretty much a port), Ridge Racer, Tiger Woods, Madden. I mean aside from Yoshi Touch N Go and Ping Pals, Nintendo doesn't exactly have a ton of original non-port stuff either.
While everyone complains about ports, I wonder how many people will run to stores and pick up DS when Ocarina of Time ends up hitting it, or when GTA hits a PSP. Face it people, sure we love original games like Lumines, but really the majority of games you purchase for handhelds are portable versions of your favorite home games. Slightly tweaked, but still great games.
I was actually pleased with the value pack as well. The case and the memory card are nice. The extra video is fine. It's not a huge deal to me. My only gripe is that they didn't have a playable demo disc with it which was disappointing.
So with a browsing solution out there, and obvious easier to implement hacks on the way, who flinches first and releases their web browser? PSP or DS? You know they both have them up their sleeves, or will we all just have to wait until E3 like good kids?
This parses full HTML and in a much better environment in terms of visual display.
As for whoever asked about the keyboard, when you click in an entry field I'm sure a keyboard entry system comes up like when you set up your PSP, not outstanding, but not tough either.
It will be interesting to see how that rolls. With VPocket on the way, and a rumored Palm licensing arrangement that's what seems to be on the horizon for DS.
The number of games coming for the PSP is pretty solid. People should be careful to realize that 20+ games won't be coming out on the first day though. This is a fairly big window. Still Nintendo.. where are the damn games.
One more thing to consider is what if the GBA SP2, is really a handheld Gamecube. Nintendo hasn't even ruled that one out and the media is the right size...
Right, G4 needs to get classy and play to the old Tech TV / Screen Savers demo. People who respect the gaming industry a little bit more. The MTVers are totally advertising driven. They want more Driver 3.
I was a big fan of Bust-A-Move (Puzzle Bobble) and it was out on main-stream systems well before Snood was even in Beta. I remember versions for both the Neo-Geo, SNES, N64 and Playstation long before I had played SNOOD. Sure the idea could have been original, but it's unlikely.
What most be even more annoying for the people at Taito is when people call Bust-A-Move a Snood clone.
It was pretty obvious that both the SpikeTV gamers show and AutoRox (the recent car show) was a quick move to capitalize on young male gamers and auto enthusiasts without focusing on the rest of the market. The problem is that these markets would not get the time of day on any large network or cable channel.
The ideal first step would be to have something like G4Tech host a gaming awards show, classy and all, and be sure to make this the pedastal that developers and companies want to get to. Perhaps have five-ten major gaming publications vote on each area for a "Game of the Year" as opposed to have 200 GOTY awards. That sort of thing.
The fact that companies are willing to put SpikeTV Gaming Awards winner makes me shake my head.
I miswrote. I think the impression that the consumer gets is that because it's coming out later, it's been in development longer, has newer, better technology, regardless of actual development time or technology.
This totally reminds me of the issues that Sega had with the Dreamcast. A great system, but had to deal with Sony and everyone else coming after.
There's two ways you can launch your system. One, you can launch first, try to capture an audience while there's no competition. Two, wait it out make your product the best, because it's been in development longest, then launch and catch up.
The preview bias exists because Sony with the PSP won't allow crap to be shown. People are excited about a Metal Gear game. It's a CARD game. Wait til you try to play a dual-shock game with one stick. It's going to be ridiculous. But a PREviewer can't grasp that yet. On the flip side, there may be preview bias, but Nintendo sure has a lot more DS's out in the hands of game players right now and when the big games roll out, they'll sell many more, unless the PSP is able to take this preview bias and roll it into enough sales and momentum to overtake DS.
Does anyhow follow any of the Japanese coverage? How are they handling the two systems now?
There's a reason why the "Indie Film" industry is booming, making a lot of money, and winning a lot of awards, and it's because they're doing what the opposite of what this guy says.
I think you're going to see the same with Video Games in the future. As EA, Vivendi and the others turn into the massive "Studios" lots of little guys are going to put out some amazing stuff and make a lot of money because it isn't as someone put "Army Men 27."
Maybe there isn't enough room for a massive amount of Indie Developers, but in film, they don't sit around forever either. They shine, then disappear, then shine again in the future. Or they get eaten up and "sell out" or they have a one-hit wonder and disappear.
I'm sure in the case of a place like Best Buy, it's also advantageous to help the people Microsoft and Sony who also provide a massive amount of your revenue outside of the Video Gaming industry.
Interesting stuff on the vendor of the month stuff. The thing is the Gameboy and Gamecube sections of every EB I've ever been in have ALWAYS been the smallest. Of course I'm sure the front of the store is where the real "sellable" shelf space is.
Funny note on the EB thing. I went to one in Providence, RI the day that Spiderman 2 came out. What a shill fest! According to them it was the next "Grand Theft Auto." At least that's what they told every single person who walked into the store when I was there. Gag me:)
This agreement is restricted to third-party manufacturers. Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft are still free to release baseball games. Just not EA. And lets be honest, Slugfest wasn't getting any better either.
The NHL and NBA probably won't be dishing off to exclusive agreements anytime soon. They make more money doing individual licenses, although deep down I'd like to see Sega keep NHL, even if they didn't, maybe they'll release an NCAA Hockey game finally.
I agree. It's really a lot about marketing, and also control on the retail level. Open up your Sunday ads in the paper today. Sure you may see a small corner hyping the Gamecube plus probably Resident Evil 4, and maybe another game or two.
Look across the page and you'll see half of a page dedicated to both the XBox and the PS2, hyping Halo 2, GTA, Mercenaries, and a lot of crappy drivel that gets released for both.
It's been like this for well over a year, but retail has shown a great deal of favortism to PS2 and XBox, long before Cube fell to a distant 3rd int he market. Same thing happened with Dreamcast as well. I wonder if video game companies pay for placement like consumer products do in grocery stores?
I for one will not condone a game that encourages the capture and exploitation of animals from temperate climates for your enjoyment. I refuse to hold a tournament in my school.
Unless you have a lot of time on your hands and some crazy Mini-ITX skills you're not going to find anything like that for awhile.
Since the MacMini also has a video card that isn't integrated into the mother (logic) board. I have a feeling you're not going to find anything with the type of video processing power either. Decent video cards aren't very small these days.
Ahh the voice of reason! There it is.. all the way at the bottom of the thread.

It's the wave of the future. How come OpenOffice hasn't been released for it yet?!
Haha! Ping Pals was just a BS throw in to stir the pot.
Kirby looks like it will be a very solid game, so I have a feeling if you like Yoshi, you'll really enjoy it.
My bad. I have Wario Ware, I've played the hell out of it, I've opened up all of the extras. Correct. Basically I was inferring cell phones don't usually use the HTML AT ALL but usually a different markup.
So with a browsing solution out there, and obvious easier to implement hacks on the way, who flinches first and releases their web browser? PSP or DS? You know they both have them up their sleeves, or will we all just have to wait until E3 like good kids?

I hear there's plenty of N-Gage's available right now, and you don't even have to pre-order. Hurry for supply and demand!
The Gameboy has sold over 100 million units in its various forms. I'm sure the brick edition has sold well over 20 million itself.
It will be interesting to see how that rolls. With VPocket on the way, and a rumored Palm licensing arrangement that's what seems to be on the horizon for DS.

Another EA take-over / buy-out story. So are they ever going to release another version of MULE or what?
