    Tooooo complicated. I got koolu net appliance ~2 years ago. Unfortunately they do not sell them anymore, however there are bound to be loads of equivalent low powered PCs. It is a AMD Geode based box with 512Mb ram and an 80gb hard drive. I run Ubuntu server on it. Only uses between 7-11 watts which is around what a PCI card would use anyway.

    You have never lived in a bad area of the UK, have you? More like, you shoot a burglar. Burglars mates/family shoot you a few weeks/months later and as pretty much the whole community hates you by now or are scared of getting shot themselves sees nothing.

    A corporation can not decide to lock me up and throw away the key, and use my money to do it. Also, I decide what information to give, or not, to a corporation. The government can pass a law saying I have to or I get locked up.

    I have never voted for either of the main parties, in fact I voted for the only party that is genuinely for an open and grass roots democratic society in Australia. The facts are:

    1) The more pressing issue of Work(lack of)choices legislation decided the vote

    2) Net censorship was not even on the radar until after the election

    There is due to be a cabinet restructure this or next month, hopefully Kev will see the light and give Conroy the boot.

    I haven't looked, but I would guess that the National Party runs the councils in the areas that were burned.

    FWIW, the National party are hardly allied to the Greens, but are in a coalition with the Liberals - the Aussie version of the GOP.

    So... Are the Green party really to blame?

    The broken window fallacy does not apply to the GPs post. Car theft, in h{er,is} example, is good for the car company. Bad for the victim, insurance company and society though - quite apt for the Pirate Bay case though!

    Which is not so different from Australia (which is a land of immigrants, much like the USA)... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_nationality_law#Acquisition_of_Australian_Citizenship_-_Birth_in_Australia IIRC, the USA is unusual in conferring citizenship on anyone who is born there. After all, is it any weirder to be able to deport a US citizen's parents if the US citizen happens to be their child and dependent upon them? This has happened...
