They have a new software feature called Remote Disk. Comes on the MacBook Air install DVD. You can install this software on a PC or Mac and wirelessly share your optical drive.
Apple claims you can even reinstall your OS from a Remote Disk.
What I find interesting is that Ballmer gives the iPhone 2%-3% market share.
This is 2x-3x more than what Jobs is publicly wanting. Jobs goal has been to capture 1% of the 1 Billion phone market - 10 million phones.
So Ballmer says that Apple will sell 20-30 million phones.
Quite the backhanded compliment.
Also, Apple marketshare, unit sales, profits, and revenues are at their highest ever, and growing at a faster rate than, for example, Dell.
Apple marketshare is not at their highest ever. Market share was much higher in the early 90's, at about 10-12%.
Further, since all Macs since the Power Mac G4 (AGP Graphics) support USB booting, and since all new Macs and PCs are universally guaranteed to have USB 2.0, going with USB on the iPod and eliminating additional support chipsets for things like FireWire - especially on a peripheral - seems prudent.
This is incorrect. The Blue and White was probably the last to boot from USB and that was from OS 9 only. No OS X native machine can boot from USB, except MacIntel.
Did folks have this same attitude when DVD's first came out? I do not believe that DVD's were cracked when the first came out. Did geek types not buy them then?
Variable pricing makes sense. Why should a company like Apple or Google have the power to decide what a video or a song is worth? The content provider owns the material.
Should a car dealer not be able to set the price of the cars they are selling? Should a grocery store not be able to set the price of the meat they are selling? Shouldn't any merchant be able to set the price of the items they are selling?
Google and Apple are merchants. Merchants should be able to set the price of the items they are selling.
I bet that Honda puts WAY more thought and polish into their Fuel Cell beta than most large level software companies do for their v1.0 software.
Have you driven a Honda?
Ballmer speaks: If you read the papers today, other than curing cancer, Google will do everything.
Sounds like sour grapes to me. At one time, wasn't it Microsoft that was erupting press releases with similar claims? (Doing everything - not necessarily curing cancer) And by doing so, creating FUD and shutting down/forcing out all those other companies?
Maybe they are not going to use the patent to sue Apple, but instead they are going to use the patent to blatantly copy Apple. Since they have the patent, they may think they survival rate in a court case from Apple may be pretty good.
Unfortunately, Creative will still lose in the end, as they do not have the other side of the equation, iTunes.
Who said anything about Apple being gods of the earth? Are you expressing some pent up frustration?
Maybe the Logic point was a little weak, but give them time on that too.
Secondly, Apple probably shouldn't be allowed credit for their employees work either, right?
Isn't another company doing work for Apple just a glorified employee?
No Name Company: "Apple, look at this cool widget, would you like to buy it?"
Apple: "Make it look/work/do like this and we have a deal."
NNC: "OK great, how do you like it now"
Apple: "Here's your check"
Is that not very similar to the Boss/Employee relationship? Give credit where credit is due.
While Apple did buy the technology behind those products, they also heavily modified and improved on them too (except maybe shake - but give them time).
FCP was bought before it was a product. DVDStudioPro's tech was bought from Adaptec and made into DVDSP, there was no Logic Express before Apple bought it.
So, Apple, even why buying into markets, still innovates and puts their DNA in the software that they buy. It becomes an 'Apple' product.
No the iPhone did not invent mobile internet access.
However, it did make it easy for ordinary people to access mobile internet.

Yes.
And their theme parks would be called Appnia!
Couple of nit picks:

and simply so one could run popular Windows applications
More like so one could run *un*-popular Windows apps.
As it is, most *popular* Windows apps have their counterpart or equivalent already available as a Mac OS X native app.

This is not a troll. Just a real question.

What about Christmas Season? They move a lot of product then too.

So if *you* don't buy Dell, why did you recommend them?
Can you show us some examples of hardware that *spec for spec* is grossly overpriced compared to name brand PC box sellers?
Hey, I'm in organised crime, and I resent you comparing me to those bastard corporate sharks, you insensitive clod!

In the US, Honda doesn't want the NSX associated with the Honda name, it's an Acura NSX.
Actually, Final Cut (FC) Express is DV only also. FC Pro lets you edit formats other than DV
"Bowling for Columbine" changed my life. I am now a fat bearded man, I used to be a non-fat clean shaven man.
You insensitive clod!
Someone else built it for you, but the iMac G5 will do that.

Apple needs it's own MonkeyBoy to whip up a developer's RDF.
