RMS travels around attempting to persuade people/states/organisations the benefits of Free software
I didnt mean to sound like I was bashing RMS, I meant it as being a good opportunity to get some decent, large-scale statistics about the benefits of free software with alternative indian states as a useful comparison, not as a demand that RMS act as an institution on his own, and that I hoped RMS or people affiliated with him use it as a chance to further the cause of free software (or learn from any potential problems with free software).
A quick google shows that Kerala has a population of 33 million people, so (depending on how many are in school) this could be a fairly big test to see how useable linux is in this sort of environment, especially with other indian states as a control. I hope RMS is not just talking it up and has some real plans in place to measure the benefits that are thought to be possible.
My christening of a new, uber-machine is normally done with the very very old-style pong. Nothing like multiple Ghz on multiple cores with a projector, TBs of HDD space and it all being used to run classic pong. Especially high-def classic pong.
If you had the spare $20million knocking around, would you head off to the ISS or would you wait for the cheaper, (safer?) Virgin Galactic service to start trips to 100km up? Virgin costs $200000 per trip... is the ISS trip worth 100 times more?
Personally I'd sooner go for 100 trips on Virgin Galactic. Maybe when the ISS is complete it will be more tempting, but only when the Disney fun modules are complete and equipped. (Not to mention the italian restaurant module).
Well 802.11n promises a typical data rate of 200Mbit/s (max 500Mbit/s), but the actual standard is not expected to be approved until July 2007, so it will be at least another year before it is feasible to start integrating into mainstream technologies. 802.11g would probably be alright with heavily compressed HD content, but if you have more than 1 box trying to watch different content from the same source, then it will probably break down quite quickly.
How do you prevent making one large botnet powered by a bunch of third-world children turning hand cranks?
This makes me wonder how the various third-world countries will start treating the various physical problems that come from computers. I bet most people in the target areas are not used to sitting hunched over a screen and there will be bad backs, bad legs (from the foot pedal), bad hands from the mouse and small keyboard, bad eyes from late night computing. Should be interesting in few years after launch to see how the native medicine peoples go about treating these.
"the point I'm making is that the more violent a game is, the more unrealistic it appears to be.
Most kids end up thinking that it would never happen."
Seems normal enough, except that quote comes from an 11 year old.
Still, I look forward to being old so I can start blaming the problems that have existed for millenia on the latest, greatest thing that I do not understand.
As an AMD fanboy, I'd say it is faster, but only it because it is made using the skin from beaten 3rd world children. Can you handle that on your conscience when you play GTA on your PC... CAN YOU!?
Indeed, dont the ipod generation have Mac OS? I'll stick to Amarok. I'd rather not be dumbed down to that level of usage and advocacy. Amarok and mythtv please:)
312 Billion? That's invade-a-country-in-the-middle-east-for-a-couple-o f-years money. Now I am concerned about microsoft invading somewhere for 2 years, as if CNN didnt give me enough to be afraid of!
Please! You dont just 'throw them out', that is bad. You have to totally incinerate them. Good thing nobody is using them for science though thanks to the friendly Govt.
Ferrer bought numerous airplanes, a fighter-jet simulator, a Lamborghini, a Hummer and other luxury vehicles with his profits.
Judging by the amount he got from this, he was not exactly small fry. Who knows what lengths he went to protecting an illicit business of that size. Certainly a sizeable chunk of change was diverted from normal streams and a fine and a slap on the wrist for him would probably not be too much discouragement for other people in similar situations who are watching his case.
Lumines especially, it is certainly not the most complicated game to design. Most of the cost must come from having the sound and art produced. Although the usual factors like testing and QA no doubt apply, it cannot be anywhere near the level of a (dare I say it) real game like GTA or (random RTS).
Pleeeeease let it be starcraft 2, and have it be more fun than warcraft 3. I need more starcraft chips and it seems they have stopped selling them at my local korean importers. There is the small matter of the game being as addictive as all hell too.
Though it is worth mentioning that even the 10Mb UK cable connections only have a pathetic 512K upload speed. Basically NNTP and FTP/HTTP downloads are the only places you will get close to 10Mb (though I have at least reached that speed a few times).

Be careful what you say, Steve can throw a chair a looooong way.

I would have to say it is a bad thing.
Electric blanket?

oh crap, they created a perfect paradox. There goes the universe.

Wow, and just one more year and it will certainly break into mainstream desktop usage
... disclaimer, I like a good number of you use linux on the desktop)
(recycled from last year
I wouldn't bet on that.

Dont forget UMDs and the relative failure of the PSP compared to the DS.

Isaac Asimov: There is a single light of science, and to brighten it anywhere is to brighten it everywhere.
Any space program is good news in my mind.
