This is a fair point. Using a parallel case, if I got hold of a forthcoming exam paper and posted 2 out of 10 questions - would that be fair use? Even if it were fair use, wouldn't it be reasonable for the examiners to ask "Please take it down, you'll ruin the exam".

Nope. CEOs leave all the the time - and when they leave people don't sit around going 'shit he didn't document the business strategy, anyone know how the company is meant to work?'. Dependency on the CEO and dependency on a maverick developer are quite different.

Not a fact. I have a fair few gay friends, I've taken my kids to a friend's gay weddings. But in a gaming environment I really don't care about a person's age, race or sex - let alone their sexual orientation.

Sorry if that breaks your comfortable assumption that everyone who isn't interested is prejudiced.

HR exists to protect the company. Your manager is jeopardising the company since any unfairly poor reference would leave the company open to legal action. HR won't like his actions.

This is exactly the point and the message you should feed back to them. With open source. they don't have to take your word for it. There is also the word of an entire community that is constantly examining the code and will blow the whistle as soon as they spot a problem. Or they can take the word of Microsoft, that their product really really is secure, honest, but no it can't be examined to make sure.

I do the same. In the UK at least it is possible to get cheap remote-control power switches that plug into your mains socket, which avoids all the scrabbling behind sets. The ones I have use a multi-channel set up, so you can have one set of sockets go off at one push of a button, and another set of sockets set to go off with another button.

I'm not a Bush fan, but I was pretty shocked at how all the Whitehouse press releases and announcements from the last 8 years just seemed to disappear at a stroke. The day after the inauguration, I was browsing around and came across a reference to an announcement about the Bush Library's newly appointed director. Clicking on it gave me the 'It's moved or gone' page at Whitehouse.gov

I find it astonishing that this was handled in this way. I would have thought that the Whitehouse should have systems in place to archive and redirect-to the Websites of past presidents.... just so it is possible to see first hand what was said at the time.
