    IBM's hardware is so powerful, that there beowoulf CPU's will write the script and story itself!

    They just punch in the title of the movie, and it renders not only all the animation, but the story too :P

    That day will come.. You tell the computer "Tell me a story", and it generates a computer rendered image complete with computer rendered story and voices.

    The cable I CAN plug into my "box", is DVI. I have a new ATI All In Wonder Radeon. it has DVI OUT. Imagine that.

    Also, there is a reason to stay digital as LONG as possible. You want the analog distance to be kept SHORT.

    If you do have to have a D->A->D process, keep the A part SHORT. Use lots of long digital wires if you need to, you'll get a better picture in the end.

    Take it to the extreme... Send an analog signal around the world on a copper pair.... Look at the result... Now send a digital signal around the world on a copper pair (or anything else), look at the result.. Ohhh, Digital is pretty picture.

    Yep, I basically did fail 9th grade math.

    I wasn't quite sure if they were to be the same, and I didn't feel like figuring it out.

    Makes sense... so the apple display is a mere 12.4% smaller.

    Just the aspect ratio is different, so you end up with a LONGER screen, but the surface area is the SAME.

    Apple has like 5% of the desktop market relative to the windows desktop market.

    Apple can do anything they want, there is no competition. Microsoft will continue to be "behind" in OS sophistication yet *AHEAD* in all the important ways (revenue, money, popularity etc etc etc).

    Too many to spell out here.. Search google, LOTS of people sell bandwidth at X mbits/s with a BURST to x mbit/s.

    You figure our how much you will estimate you will use as a total per month, and you pay for that. You cruise at 2mbit/s mostly, then you explode to 145mbit/s and at the end of the month you average out to 6mbit/s.

    The idea is you BUY your peak speed, but pay for a low average..

    EVERYONE does this now, call around... It was kind of silly for you to ask Slashdot how to do this. UGH.

    Yes, ATI does it as well.

    When it all comes "down to it". One could argue if there is anything WRONG with this anyways.

    The point of optimizing drivers is just to do that, to optimize them. So if that means optimizing so that specific areas run much faster than normal, and hence specific applications run much faster... So be it.

    If you continue "optimizing" enough, eventually you'll have all areas covered and you will maybe have a much better/faster card.

    The things I think are morally wrong is when a driver (Ahem ATI!) checks for a file called "Quake.exe" running in memory, then suddenly quality degrades just so this one game will get a faster FPS...

    Optimizing for a benchmark, FINE, but don't degrade quality just to get a faster FPS... If you can do it without degrading quality, I am all for it.

    Go ATI, GO Nvidia!

    This has been done for many years, even the last decade. A good friend of mine works and has worked for almost every major video card company in the buisness for the last decade. What is his job? Make sure THEIR video card gets the best scores on the latest and greatest video cards.

    I am sorry to tell you all, but just because Nvidia was CAUGHT this time, doesn't mean they haven't been "cheating" (by optimizing for a specific benchmark) for the last 6 years.

    I would bet every driver release contains code to help out benchmarks and even specific games. Why do you think Nvidia just said with there latest driver release " *Up to 30% faster frame rates ( *With Unreal Tournament 2002)".

    Its just once in a great while someone notices a performance jump TOO big, or just wants some news worthy-ness and decides to put out a nice PDF file.

    Besides.. Most of the time its the hardware that is crap, and the software has to "support" the crappy hardware. I know from experience.

    I already told everyone that the Nvidia beta drivers would run "faster".

    You can cut corners, get the performance numbers, and if there are any problems, you have the safety net of "Hey, these are BETA drivers on BETA hardware.. so sue us if there are "bugs"".

    Superfly is a character Romero made in his previous game, Diakatana or whatever. Superfly was an anoying side kick that everyone hated as you had to keep him alive while playing or the game was over, and his AI was poor so he always got himself into trouble.

    The parent post to this one should be marked Funny: 1, not Offtopic: 1.

    It is a funny comment! Where is Superfly in the latest game? :P

    They do recall older bills. The Fed Gov. will recall bills from all banks, so all new cash given out will be the new bills.

    Eventually MOST money goes through a bank. Over time, little original bills will exist.

    What does the Gov do with the current bills? They burn them of course... Big heaping pile of burning money. Must be emotional to watch that happen...
