I have heard several times on the radio and know that several articles have been written questioning the space progam's usefulness. We spend countless amounts of money on space exploration and short of the satellites alot of people believe that very little has been gained. Granted I do not feel this way, there are alot of people who do.

  10. Tire Retread Plant on The Absolute Worst Working Environment? · · Score: 1

A breif description of my job includes offering technical support for Tire retread plants, you know those huge tires you see on tractor trailors. Well when I first started this job they require you visit one of these plants for an installation.

So I took a train up to MA and headed out to the plant. When I got there I had been warned that they are by far some of the dirtiest places you will ever see. Boy was that an understatement. Everywhere you look there is tire rubber dust, in the air, on the ground, on everything! The floor itself was a grey concrete, though I couldn't see this until I scrapped about an inch of the rubber dust away(took a few minutes). Once I was introduced around they started educating me on how a retreaded tire is made. They didn't warn me about the monorail, I learned that myself. During my education I started to hear a metal grinding sound. I turned around and caught one of these hooks carrying a 50 lbs tire on the monorail in the forehead. I flew to the floor landing squarly on my ass.

Once I was helped to my feet and brushed off what I could of the tire dust I knew this was going to be a week to remember. I spent the rest of the time at that site watching my ass for those tires weigh almost half my weight.

The memories of that week will forever remind me "I don't have it so bad". Though I will say, those Khaki pants I had on will never be the color of khaki again.

Face recognition can be bypassed by simply having recontructive surgey, fingerprints can be removed(or changed if you watch the movies). As for why it will have a hard time becoming the standard, to many people are either afraid of having something implanted in them, or going under the knife to have it put in. Just my 2 cents.

  23. Dual Standards on China Releases Own WLAN Security Standard · · Score: 1

Having two standards could cause a huge problem from manufatures as well as consumers. Its a nightmare to find out you bought a wireless card only to see your router uses the other standard. This also presents a problem to the makers of these network devices cause now they need to add in support for the new standard. What happens if these standards overlap in some way? What about companies who have built a network with the old standard and now require a more secure standard, its going to put thier budget through the roof. Though compition is great, it also can create problems.

  25. No suprise on AOL Lays Off 450 In California · · Score: 3, Insightful

I for one was expecting this. Considering that earlier in the year AOL Time Warner decided to change its name back to just Time Warner. It is common knowledge that they have been losing thier clients to other ISP services like MSN and Comcast. When your user base shrinks the company must as well to keep from losing to much money on having to large of a workforce for thier userbase.
