anyone else notice that all of this commodore64's post are modded. Must have multiple accounts or friends bumping up all his responses.
Welcome to Capitalism my friend. Charge what the market wil bare. Also the amount of channels offered varies market to market changing the price. DTV and Dish...same price no matter where you are.
Why is this modded informative? The person obviously has no clue or has their head buried in the sand.
The TOS states the limit is 250gb. Comcast offers a tool to track your bandwidth usage as well. Not to mention the limit has been mentioned time after time again right here on/.
Can you use your VCR and DVR to change the channel on FIOS or Satellite? No and you never could. Unless your VCR or DVR had an inbuilt IR Blaster. So what's new? Comcast is getting rid of prehistoric analog service and getting with the times to offer more HD services and higher bandwidth. You can't record and watch a differant show without either analog service (which only cable offered until recently) or you rent a DVR which when it goes bad the cable company replaces...or you can pay $400 for an HD Tivo plus $13 a month for tivo subscription...and when your DVR goes bad...guess what? you get to spend $400 again.
25mb internet connect that is actually 5mb? I assume this person fails to realize they are most likely subscribed to a 6mb line and they are receiving the benefit of PowerBoost that bumps them for a short period of time. DSL does not offer this.
Bribe politicians to keep competitors out? Get real. Ever heard of a State/City Franchise? Comcast and other companies including phone companies pay millions to the city or state (california is now state) to have this "monopoly" which is actually benefitial the local market. Ease of mind to invest in the very expensive network plus they provide life line services and free services to public schools and government buildings.
It's a shame that "informative" people obviously have no clue and neither do the mods.
BTW read your flyer more closely...there is a thing called a DTA, get 2-3 for free and each additional cost $1.99. Satelite and fios you pay for EVERY tv a minimum of $6 a month
As EVERYONE has pointed out, this is an advertised feature so Comcast is not "cheating". Instead of people automatically assuming to Comcast bash I think it only proper of the Moderators to post at the end of the story that this article is inaccurate and is part of a service feature. Most people don't bother reading comments, so Slashdot is feeding false information.
I read one users post...I can't believe their cable company makes them pay for powerboost when Comcast offers it free!
I work for Comcast in the bay area and by spec our nodes are not to exced 70% usage. Which we managed just fine. We have tons of fiber not even lit in order to meet demand.
So these companies complaining makes no sense. In fact they just shared our regional numbers with us and HSI was profitable by some comparable sum equal to video.
IMO these companies should just become common carriers like AT&T and provide you access. Other companies should provide IPTV which would either be free or subscription based. Thats where I see the industry hopefully going!
Funny reading this. I believe I know who the poster of this story was and my girl was fired along with him under the same circumstances after working there over 2 years and being MVP and employee of the month time after time.
Wow, good thing I read slashdot.
I work for a Satellite TV company and I had a service call on the same block as this guys home....and the damn road had crime scene tape up and I couldn't get to my job! Well now I know what was up.
3 slashdot
Why don't these sites have a notice saying that these entities and types of users are not permitted to access the tracker what so ever with the intent of causing harm. Then when they do, technically they have then entered the system unauthorized which, if im remember correctly, is a federal offense.....
I've watched the whole series. I say the show is highly overrated, the ending is one of the most boring I have ever seen....and the entertainment value is lost after a few episodes.
Just my 2 cents though
Haha, I could see this as some great potential for the porn industry, especially with self pleasuring.
In the video he talks about how the picture would go from raining to pouring, if you started waving your arms around....So uh...if there was a lot of movement...maybe the picture would change accordingly;)
If I only had a patent...I could be rich (feel free to help yourself)
In the end the consumer pays for it anyhow. The companies will just tack the cost onto the product. Same as how Telco's tack on a fee to recoup the cost of them being mandated to provide free 911 service.
It's probably just best to have the companies price it into their systems, that way the tax isn't blatant to people. Everyone notices sales tax, but most people don't notice the 30cents or so of tax on gasoline, since its built into the price already (at least here in California)
The website does not host the files, all they host is a.torrent file...so untill the court rules torrent technology illegal...then what have they done wrong?
Also this was a member only website...which when registering I can safely assume that it states if you are anyway affiliated with the government and blah blah blah you are not allowed on this website because of the internet privacy act signed by bill clinton blah blah blah.
You see that everywhere...I really suspect this bust was not clean...and if the people running this website get any money backing them up, they will win.
The government and the **AA need to stop wasting tax payers money on suing and arresting teenagers for downloading a file and instead go after the people that work for them. They are leaking these movies and albums out themselfs...their own employees. Or go after the crews releasing this shit.
These crews are just getting better and better at what they do. If Joe Smoe was doing the releases...I probably wouldn't be interested in whatever it is because the quality is probably crap.
Am I right or am I right?
BTW this new posting system where you have to type in the letters you see in the graphic....SUCKS
What about the right to privacy? Regardless of what he was doing, encryption secures privacy, and if part of his sentencing was achieved in part because he was using encryption....what other ways could this ruling effect future court cases? I can easily see this becoming a supreme court issue on how encryption relates to the constitution.
What is Martha Stewart used encryption on here computer because of her everyday dealings....and then this whole insider trading thing comes about and her and whoever had been talking via email....does encryption on her system automatically make her a person out to do bad things? (regardless of how you feel about her:P)
Actually by law, you're suppose to. They have to pay taxes on the sale and you have to pay taxes on your earned income.....love the whole double taxation!
I can't even describe how happy I am to see these books come to screen. I absolutly loved the cartoon movie version as a kid and loved the books. I had actually just recently given the books to my girlfriends nephew. I'm sure the fact that there is going to be a movie about what he is reading will encourage him to read the books even more.:):)
You've got to be kidding me!!
Come on Moderators! The guy obviously did not read the whole article. It clearly states that they have already thought about how to implement the elec, water, sewage, cable, etc.
I'm a DTV installer so I'm aware of all the changes to come.
Yes you will have to get a new HDTivo, HD receivers, and possibly even new standard receivers.
I am not aware though if they plan on charging people for the equipment or replacing it all for free. I'de imagine that they would replace it for free though. figuring most people would say screw that and goto a competitor for their tv needs.
I for one can't wait for their new satellites to be up and running! It's going to increase work for me, and it's going to help drive down prices on HD receivers. HD receivers go for about $300-400 right now. I'de easily imagine they will drop to around $100 or even be free. DTV is going to want to make a major push on its new HD services.
anyone check out exeem yet? (too lazy to grab a url) It has all the features I could ever want in a torrent program and its not centralized. I can not wait till this application gets large. This program is it. Check it out people.
i want to know how they get this data. does the software call home and they track the number of unique ip's or mac addresses?

You know...for someone that is so well known...it's not really that nice of a neighborhood he is in. Surprising.
