    if an attacker had access to wal*mart's systems, shutting them down for a few days would be a bad way to do it, instead attack trust and dependability.

    screw up certain shipments for holidays, occasionally add an item or three to credit card purchases, add a hundred bucks to random debits.

    then at the end transfer all credit card numbers, debit card numbers, signatures, and PINs to a third party


    halting operations would be bad for walmart, leaking EVERY SINGLE credit card transaction processed by walmart would be much worse long term.

    the attack could be even more effective if the pharmacy/medical records kept could be leaked. people get pissed when their viagra perscription gets posted on the internet

    it doesn't matter if anyone knew it was coming, the point is that it is simply an improvement on an existing part, each old implementation should not be re-patentable with a specific new part.

    that's just plain retarded, the wireless portion of the controller is simply the logical evolution of the wire and plug previously used. claiming that is a valid basis for a patent is like claiming it's valid to patent "use of a steering wheel" to "control a flying car"

    the wiimote DOES NOT transmit anything via IR, it recieves an IR signal from the "sensor" bar which is really a stick with IR LEDs on it

    Balkanization of formats benifits only one entity, and that is Apple

    the recording industry has lower sales numbers and higher piracy, as do the artists
    fans have a smaller selection of music AND hardware lock-in if they go with Apple
    Retailers have to deal with angry customers when their new MP3 player won't play the songs they just bought

    going from Verizon Free(fuck?)Up to Net10 was like a breath of fresh air

    10c/minute for domestic calling, and you can enable international LD for an extra 5c/minute

    i get texting for 3c/outgoing and free incoming

    best of all when i screwed up and didn't renew on time they let me keep my accrued minutes no hassle, just went to the site, reactivated and waited 30 minutes for the reactivation to go through (no reactivation time if you refill when you are supposed to)

    another thing is if you do decide to shut your account down for a while there is no added activation fee, just buy minutes, and possibly end up with a new cell number. VZW wanted $100 just to turn on a prepaid phone.

    there is no reason you couldn't have an unblocked subnet which a customer can call and be transfered to as long as they don't start spamming.

    another way is for the combined modem/firewall/routers to be shipped with 25 blocked except to the ISP's servers

    the biggest problem with this is that it's invisible, and easy to cover up

    all it takes is a few event where agenst fake being hit by them to discredit all claims of these weapons being misused.

    tear gas and projectile weapons can be seen and shown on camera, a transmitter can be hidden almost anywhere

    how about DWI enforcement, rather than setting up roadblocks the police could have a computer looking at all times for cars exibiting DWI-like behaviour, such as delayed reactions and swerving all over the place.


    then when the computer has a "hit" the location, description and current heading is sent to the nearest patrol car to check things out.

    they could use faraday cage paint on the prison itself, another way would be to deploy radio signal strength monitors, since my computer speakers can detect when i am making a call, or when my phone is doing a periodic handshake with the network, there is no reason detectors could not be placed around the prison, perhapse one detector circuit for every 5-10 cells then if it trips all the cells are searched and anyone with a cell phone gets a week or two in the hole
