If you decide to go for Dreamweaver I Highly recommend you investigate Templates.
Bascially you setup a template that all your other pages are created from.
It makes the web site much easier to maintain - but more importantly all the pages look exactly the same - with web sites if a table is out by 2 pixels the human eyes DOES notice and small inconsistances over a 30 page web site really bring down the overall effect of the web site.
I take my girlfriend out for a quick dinner, see a movie and usually afterwards meet up with some friends for a coffee (they may or may not also come to se the movie)
And the best part is we leave the baby with her grandparents.
One of the standard GPS messages is VTG (track made good and heading).
The message provides the current speed and heading.
A standard (>$200) GPS receiver should give this information. You will need a more expensive one if you want to save the data and sync it to your computer.
If you want a real cool rolls royce solution you could contact my company - we'll write PDA solution for you. http://www.sapien.com.au/
Ever heard of zgeek? Its a little like slashdot but run by an Australian and much much funnier. Anyway he justs puts his bank account up on the web. You probably have a company account or such that you can use instead of your personal account.
Many of you Americans might not know this.
But in Australia free to air TV shows are played months and months after they have aired in the States.
For example CSI:New York just aired last week. And guess what the first espisode was? Think it was espisode 1? Think again.
The network opened with CSI:New York espisode 8!
WTF!
Great call mate - If I had mod points I'd give you some.
Lets face it - WE ALL have been through the same fantasy as the original post. Its a fantasy and thats all it is.
A good example is a friend of mine who's Dad had a really good idea for a business and 3 contacts. My mate was earning $120,000 a year as an site engineer (30 y.o).
But my mate quit his job and started programming and also integrating RFID technology. Through his dad he got 1 contract.
Its taken 2 years of hard work and lots of travelling but hes started to make money - he has won 23 contracts - he still owes $20,000 on his VISA card but hes now looking to HIRE a programmer (contract at first). In another few years his business should be making GOOD money.
Another great example is the MUSIC industry - there's a million bedroom rock stars but very few musicians with the determination and the talent to make it all the way (roots music only!)
Hey - its always nice to sit back and dream - but are you willing to bet your house on the dream? Do you really have the balls to bet your house? Entrepreneurs have the guts and the determination to take a dream and make it reality. The rest of us have to just keep working for the man.
Running a Sound Blaster is a little bit different to a professional sound card.
With a sound card that is used to record and play back multiple tracks at once low lacency is very important (very very important). The types of professional cards I'm used to using have specially written drivers (sort of like DirectX) that bypass the usual windows sound drivers. The reason these special drivers are written is to improve the latency times when running mutiple tracks and also when trying to use the computer as a virtual instrument.
Sound Blasters are propably a great card for many many users - however that don't cut it for pro audio.
I'm working on a project that is 2 years late already. And in the 9 months I've been on the project the Go Live date has moved from October to June (8 months).
Whats lacking in the project is good Project Management skills. Oh well.
I enabled Spam Trap http://www.spamtrap.net.au yesterday for the main email account at work. Instead of 43 spams and 4 emails we got just 4 emails this morning. Seems to work well although I'm not 100% sure yet. Costs $33/year which is OK for an office environment.
Its important when working as a contractor to work out what you will be earning and not to get greedy.
52 weeks a year - 4 weeks for holidays - 2 weeks for public holidays - 1 week sick leave = 45 weeks.
45 weeks * 5 days * $400/day = $90,000 per year.
Then you got to pay yourself super -
90,000 / 11 * 10 = $81,800 per year
Thats what I earn per year!
Posting your resume onto Monster is a waste of time. However checking out the job boards is an excellent way to start looking for a job. I believe the best way to be successful with job boards is to find jobs you are qualified for (and interested in!). But don't hit the send button yet! You MUST call the recruitment firm and talk to the contact person - a good way to start is by saying 'I'm interested in applying for this position and this is my experience - 7 years DBA". Many times I have called and been knocked back straight away - it hurts to be knocked back but at least I saved myself 2 hours crafting a greta covering letter. I'm good friends with a General Manager who advertised an entry level position and recieved 200 replys. Only 2 people actually RANG in to discuss the position. One of those people was in the reject pile and got put into the 'look at' pile. One of my friends works in HR and he always looks at the resumes of people who ring in.
Job boards aren't bad things - but you can't sit quiet as a mouse and email resumes in - you MUST call head hunters!
My daughter just turned 1 yesterday.
I really don't like Freenet's attitude on child porn. While most people wish that child pornography and terrorism did not exist, humanity should not be deprived of their freedom to communicate just because of how a very small number of people might use that freedom. This attitude just isn't good enough. It just isn't.
Damn - I'm still laughing - whats up with that
One company I worked with displayed them at the front desk...is this the best use of them?

In my best Nelson voice
I'm sure others have said it - just put a hard drive in it!! (and a USB port)
NOT A CLUE!
Actually they don't have much love for the technology at all - most of them seem pretty grumpy most of the time.

Can a fellow /.'er lend me their password?

this article is complete bollocks...
My work once gave me shiny new laptop.
It was great for awhile - but then they kept asking me to do work after hours.
All of a sudden I was being pulled into meetings after my normal work hours for dressing downs.
Another person on the 'team' needed the laptop and I gave it too them and never asked for it back.

If your so smart why don't you invent one.

Other Linux distro's don't pretend to be Windows.
Windows does - it automatically installed the correct driver. I could surf the cameras memory in Explorer.
I probably can't plug my new Kodak camera into the USB port and the computer automatically installs the drivers.
Its all just Windows dressing with the driver support.
