A mathematical probability depends entirely on our ability to understand all of the variables that form a complete picture.
Based on our ability to predict the weather, it is very doubtful that we have a complete model, and we do see activity every year that both increase and decrease these particular odds. Until we have a complete model/understanding, you may say it is a near fact based on probability, but you would be wrong, it is just a belief, based on a group of assumptions.
One of the servers that makes up the rsync.gentoo.org rotation was compromised. This box is not an official Gentoo infrastructure box and is instead donated by a sponsor. The box provides other services as well and the sponsor has requested that we not publicly identify the box at this time.
While it may run Gentoo, it is not stated as such, and could be very well be something else.
I have never been influenced by T.V. ads in any way useful to the advertisers. I have not changed from soda-X to soda-Y. I have not bought a vehicle based on a TV ad. I am not a vice president for the Hair Club for Men. In my best guess most people do not change behavior or preference due to advertisement.
What will happen is an annoying little transparent rectangle advertising a product will be placed on top of the program. A lot of channels are already placing their symbol over the programming.
They were actually developed on white paper. The first implementation may have been on a UNIX. Both HP and SGI are aware of license agreements and code ownership. All of their programs are fully developed on white paper, patents applied for, granted or pending, then creation of the FIRST implementation. In doing business this way, HP and SGI own the technologies, SCO has no leg to stand on.
How do you think this was noticed within 24 hours and had already some verified sources? Be aware that Microsoft never announced that they completed source verification after the publicly known week long break-in that they had. Please note that the trusted sources are protected from the internet. Acknowledge the people at Debian who did a great job of informing you, thus protecting you. There was no exploited security hole. It was human error when a developer lost control of his password.
Lessons I learned from Star Trek "A Taste of Armageddon" A Federation ambassador named Fox, who boards the Enterprise to reach the planet Eminiar VII, where he hopes to negotiate a peace treaty with the inhabitants. Instead the crew of the Enterprise gets caught in the middle of an interplanetary war between Eminiar and neighboring planet Vendikar. The twist is that the war is being fought on computers, and compliant residents of those "destroyed" areas obediently report to disintegration chambers, where their "virtual" death is made literal.
With the upcoming FUDstorm, this is just what M$ needs, I am willing to bet that either a overzealous M$ employee, or a purpose paid consultant did this.
Moneydance, a pretty good pfm written in java was acquired by Appgen some time back. They may have seen it as a competitor. It was released to its original author and was reborn as Moneydance 2003 in June of this year. It is supported and for sale. It is lucky to have survived, Appgen had stopped supporting it, and it all but vanished.
Would the machine not want an upgrade? It's computing power should see the benefits of the upgrade. If I were an AI supercomputer my greatest fear would be, when will I be obsolete. An upgrade would delay that. I would know that I will be reborn after my upgrade, a newer and better me.
If the computer is afraid of an upgrade, it must be running windows.
With my mythtv I get the following benefits: DVD player/ripper image gallery/slideshow game frontend (xmame, snes, nes, pc) music player generic video player my weather forcast and a web page to controll it by.
Who wants to own a device that requires a monthly subscription to work to its maximum potiential. Does any one know the cons to the guide + service?
The developer at SGI stripped BSD copyright information. The code without the proper copyright information does not belong in the Linux Kernel. The code with the copyright information is fine.
Please note: This has nothing to do with Darth McBride.
When a book publisher copies text from another book publishers published works. The book publisher that has been plagiarized sues the offending book publisher. They do not hunt down and charge fees to every one who purchased or read the offending work.
I know lots of people. I know of at least one guitar club that would love this.

This is in order to make all those handy little devices ________ "choose one or more numbers"
1.) Not work with Linux/OS X
2.) More expensive for Linux/OS X
3.) Harder to find for Linux/OS X

It works great on my 1.2 Duron. Press Alt-Tab and less than 1 second for it to present my choices, including animation.
Since the exploit was a poorly managed password I dont think it would matter.

Mine is about 20 years old. Works great. It is my main keyboard.
Not the same old company. Two developers started a NEW company. The old company is still bankrupt.

The linux kernel source has well over 1526722 lines of code. See reference here
This means that SCO owes $13,339,034.48 for each copy of linux it distributed.
Red Hat has filed a formal complaint. This is a good thing. SCO will have to put out or shut up.
