    You do realize that both sides do this or did we forget to read the article in our haste to be 1st post.

    True... However, it is the Republican party which has planked on "smaller" government. We have seen big government grow much more than under democratic rule. The dirty little secret is that you can't have the worlds largest economy, strongest military and project dominating geo-graphic power unless the government is of substantial size.

    Somewhere between a small laptop and a PDA / phone to transmit input via WiFi maybe, but replacing a home stereo component with a traditional PC will not catch-on.

    Why dont we see more companies making their back catalogs available

    Lets see....

    1. Atari no longer makes Atari consoles. But you can buy those little Atari like things in any store. I almost bought one just for Yars Revenge
    2. The Connecticut Leather Company no longer sells colecos.
    3. Sega no longer makes Sega consoles. Although the genisis could play SMS games with an adapter.
    4. Hudson no longer sells TurboGraphix consoles.
    5. Neo-Geo is no longer sold and no one could afford to buy them when they were sold.
    6. 3D0 why bother... 7. Playstation 2 can play playstation 1 games.
    8. Xbox is to new to really have a back catalog.


    Ninento is smart for getting into the legacy game market. They can most likey provide these games on the cheap and make good money. Kind of like Apple with iTunes. I am definitely going to buy a Revolution just so I can play games with out having to wory about finding roms and dealing with emulation issues. Hell my modded XBOX gets more play time with the nes and n64 emulator than XBOX games.

    This is a poor article. It does not provide any solutions to locking down sudo. Oddly enough it is an article for OS X on a site called linuxboxadmin.com. Why not focus on one of the linux distros that use sudo such as Ubuntu?

    Good point. However, the region of Normandy is in France and part of French history. The average English man would probably consider that as one of the conflicts against the French.

    Actually this bill looks like it intended to water down DRM and lessen piracy laws. The evils of DRM and overzelous anti-piracy laws are weekly topics on Slahdot. It looks like the French are actually doing something about it instead of complaing on an Internet site. It unfortunately looks like Apple has been singled out as they are a market leader. I say unfortunate because Apples DRM is relatively light compared to WMA. Although the bill does look a little vague as described by the article. However, something may have been lost in translation.

    Move your French hating along Ian. By the way that name sounds pretty English.... Still haven't gotten over the French occupation of England have we?

    Like anything will ever come of that.... Subsidiaries of Haliburton sold equipment to Saddam while under sanctions with Dick Chenney as CEO. People tend to turn a blind eye to this sort of thing.

    I heard the same thing about the rail privatization. I am American. However, I lived in London from 2001 to 2002. People told me that prior to privatization the trains were punctual and there were fewer accidents.

    Nevertheless, people will continue to congratulate each other over such arbitrary attributes, while straight white males stand at the sidelines with their mouths shut, lest they be considered racist, sexist, homophobic, or just generally discriminatory.

    It's called paying for the sins of your fore fathers.

    However, what you are complaining about is a very minor thing. Try moving overseas and living in a country where you are the minority. You will then be able to understand what the minorities in the U.S. have gone through.

    Grab music from a share
    Grab streaming music
    Grab video from a share
    Play Tivo recorded programsif you have a tivo with HMO or a hacked directv tivo
    Play emulators
    Play your XBOX games


    I never use the regular XBOX console. I find my self playing mostly old NES and N64 games on the XBOX.
    I don't own a Mac Mini. However, I don't see why you can not do the same and maybe more with the Mini's extra memory, CPU and Firewire/USB2 capabilities.

    Why in the world are they trying to compare a full blown PVR/Media Center (Windows Media Center) to a computer with a remote (Mac Mini)? Don't get me wrong, the Mini is a cool device and it it had PVR abilities I would happily buy one, but it doesn't. For the most part these are very different devices.

    Because the Mini can become a PVR with a usb video tuner....

    In related news. If you eat over 8 potatoes in a day or drink large amounts of water you will die.

    I didn't know they had guns in Canada...

    You obviously did not see "Bowling for Columbine". Canada has more guns than people. The movie asked why the U.S. is more violent than Canada. The issue could not be simply be guns as Canada has more guns than people. The movie briefly explored Canadian lifestyle , media content , etc...

    True, a Mac Mini isn't typically going to be used as a server, but if Apple decides to make some kind of Intel based server, this kind of thing is a HUGE problem.

    Not necessarily. The mac mini is a desktop and has a lot of software installed on it that would be deemed a security risk in production environment. Ever hear of using a complier to shell out? That is why compilers are usually left off of servers for security reasons. Your average linux/bsd desktop box with all the goodies installed probably would not have lasted much longer.

    It doesn't really matter that SSH was left on. The thing that made this easy was that they were allowed a shell account. Getting shell access is the easiest way to compromise a system. Lets see how long it would take with out a shell.
