Isn't a RSA key just a much better way of doing this - can be on your keyring, and each user has a different (random) preamble - a much better way of doing it?
Kdb+ by KX Systems (http://www.kx.com/ is by far and away the best thing for this. Its main use is to store tick data from financial markets, and is excellent at this (if expensive).
From how you descibed your needs, this would probably bit the bill..
Simply change your DNS records to resolve it.slashdot, games.slashdot, or whatever colour (yes, I'm British) scheme you don't like, and Robert's your proverbial uncle...
Personally, I've done so, except of apple.slashdot, which I quite like...
Yeah, I'm with the parent on this one. When I was a student at Imperial, I never quite understood why it was that all these people kept upon accessing mirror.ac.uk, when is was slower than sunsite.doc.ic.ac.uk (as it was at the time).
What would be sensible is for the JISC to give Imperial some money to help towards it's support, and re-direct the mirror.ac.uk URL towards it, it'd be well worth it for all...
FileZilla ( http://filezilla.sourceforge.net/) is fantastic from my point of view. I once was a hige fan of SmartFTP like the reader and the majority of posters, but once I've started using this I haven't gone back. And, as opposed to being Shareware, it's free (beer & speech!)
Firstly, IANAL also, but the way I've read this ruling, I see a potentially useful application of it.
If it is not a breach of copyright to re-publish electronically such as on CD, then that could be taken to mean that mirrors of sites would not be subject to copyright issues - which here, considering the/.-ing of various smaller sites, could lead to (hopefully)/. mirroring news stories if they feel the server could go down.
Only problem I see is that National Geographic had paid copyrights for all of the images once alredy, whereas nothing of the sort will have happened if this appliation...
The case isn't that NO Americans (or British/European/Whatever) can't get jobs in India, it is just that they have EXACTLY the same basis for their employement/immigration laws, in that people will only be granted visas for jobs that no other people in the country can do. This is what happened in the US in the 90's - people filling the lower level tech jobs for which there was not enough native US workers to fill.
I know a few people happily working in India and have had no problems re: visas, but all of these people are working in management positions of tech firms.
It is simply likly that this person was refused a visa as he was applying for a low-ish coding jobl, for which Indians can easily fill natively.
Another book I can reccomend, not so much science as Maths & Stats would be "Against the Gods" by Peter L Bernstien. Covers much of the history & timeline of it all.
The Economist has recently published a series of articles about India vs China, not just in realtion to their space race, but on how they are similar and compete in other manners
Link is to the opening article, futher links from there.
Why don't people just read the article before posting about how terrible this is.
If you look past the first couple of paragraphs, you can see that formatting is basically kept, expect when graphics are used (precisley where would the graphics fit in a XML file?), and the feature that this guy (and most people) seem to be bitching about is the option which allows data-only. Surely this is a good feature, as we can have formatting stuff which is interoperable with other MS Words, and an option which is just data!
I don't have SMS???? - Is this a common thing for US networks, just here in UK it's given that everyone with a mobile phone (around 60pc last at last count IIRC) have SMS
Unforunatley for us guys in the UK, there is still no OSX AOL client.
AOL UK keep on saying that they have no plans, but will monitor the US and other markets. The link to the story is http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/39/22952.html
No, this isn't confirmed. The situation is that AOL Windows will still be running IE for the forseeable future, but there have been many rumours stating that there is an internal only build with Mozilla/Gecko, but no-one can really confirm these.

Very good, more institutional - but have heard that they will support inviduals too

Know it'll be shot down here, but...
Might only be platform independent on the client side, but is the best thing for this, giving access to mailboxes to those who need it.

sure, the actual saying is "Bob's Your Uncle", and look at this
What I said above was just a variation, as many are commonly used

Completely agree on Zero, an excellent read.

1st Post - Well I hope it is - Ohh, please let me be first, I have all of this 20second rules, AHH
Personally I don't see why this item is such news. IIRC Borland always said they would support C++ at some later date, and now they are.
Now we just have to wait for really poor UI#s like all of the early Deplhi ones...
