People need to realise this is more like the an adult getting to do their version of a science fair project like some of us did in HS. Writting a binary/hex/octal/decimal conversion program or connecting a mobile armatron to a PC are just some of my examples. it wasn't becuase we had to (well we didn't have to go to that level) or would make money, it was because it was something challenging and a way to get to work on things we normally never would have. I wish I had the time to work on things like this.
This sounds like something my boss told me about 5 years ago. Everyone knew the company was having problems and in one meeting when asked about raises, etc. she actually said "Well, Mcdonalds is hiring."
About a month later I gave notice to leave for a company that was paying about 20% more in another State. The first words out of her mouth were "Are you serious?"
hey, I loved Star voyager. I always cared about what lvl i finished not scores. My cousin had star raiders, but the template for the keypad got lost and after that I couldn't play the game and he couldn't remeber what buttons did what, so I never learned what I was missing.
Excellent point. people tend to forget about what really are the worse jobs in every industry. I personally would love a "boring" job paying $80k that i was alone in the office all night with lots of waiting in between. I could get so much more accomplished in that time than just surfing the net. A simple example is bring a laptop and spend half the time working on your own business/web pages and the other half playing games. your basically getting paid to do your own thing. even if there wasn't room for advancment, you would have plenty of time to create your own success. When people think of "worse jobs" they should really remember to includ everything you mentioned and also include overbearing bosses that monitor your every move and have a fit if you actually get on the web when you are supposed to be pretending to be busy because it looks bad. oh and while it wasn't an IT job. next time some here thinks about copmplainng about their job, just be glad your not working a twelve hour shift in a 20 below 0 warehouse making $8.50 an hour. i did that once, you never forget that kind of "worse" job.
There is no such thing as "native ability".
so there's no such thing as IQ? no one is smarter than anyone else? No one has better abilities than anyone else? Anyone can be a Mozart, Hawkins, or Einstein?
scary thought, but I think your right. Also, what about people with pacemakers. Reminds me of the early scene of The Core. not something you want to have happening.
Unfortunatly this is not a soley voluntarily system. the apartment complex i use to live in decide to put these in ALL of there units in a bout a 2 week time period right before the summer. All of the residence got a notice on their door that these would be installed and a brief discription, similar to he one above, about how they would work. There was no way to opt out of this. once ours was installed, it didn't work right, the sensors were off on the temperature in the house and woldn't cool properly. (but it would cycle when they told it too, there was an LED that came on when they were controlling it). The result was an apatment that was between 80-85+ deg F during the day (and my wife was at home and pregnant at the time). I called Austin energy a few times and didn't get much help. I finally was able to find an online manual and adjusted the sensor by about 5 deg., but it still wasn't a "comfortable" apartment. Finally we got AE to come out and replace the thermostat with another one and things did get better, but there were a lot of headahces for something that we never wanted put in our apt. to begin with. oh, and our electric bill didn't go down enough to notice either, so much for the discounts.
This is a pretty sad day in age when you can't trust anyone to transport your stuff when you travel
it not just the the airline/airport employees that are your concern. it's the hundred other people waiting to get their bags too. all it takes, is someone that's dishonest seeing it come by on the conveyor before you do. they pick it up and walk away w/o any consequences and your just standing there waiting.... and waiting, until you realize it's not there and it's too late, because by that time, they are already out of the building.
640k? don't you mean 64k? A C64 should be enough machine for everyone

We live for the One, we die for the One.
Sorry, just wishing we had one of those three as a choice instead.
most likely your state doesn't require front plates, some don't e.g. delaware and some do, e.g. texas

Of course this country will never run out of money. If the government needs more money, they'll just print it.

that's the Ferengi prime directive,

The treaty prevents governments from claiming ownership, not people or corporations.

Quake 1 - the whole soundtrack. NIN also one of if not the only PC game that was designed to be put in a CD player to listen to the soundtrack.

there is a relativly modern version of Elite out, called oolite. http://oolite.aegidian.org/
It was to dissipate heat and increase the spread of coverage for the lasers.
