They seem to be TRYING to make it fail.
1) they are similiar in price to the dvd, what benefit does that have?
2) I would have to sacrifice my upload bandwidth, for something that costs the same at the store
3) It will be DRM'd and therefore not usable on most portable video players.
Now, lets compare it against using, lets say thepiratebay.org.
1) FREE
2) i sacrifice my upload bandwidth... but its for a free vid
3) the vid works... period.
When the hell will the *aa relize... were sick of the insane markup, charge a decent price... stop releasing garbage, and give an option to 'try before u buy'... so that we dont get stuck with garbage
I had the exact same issue with uparts.com i was working 10+ hours a day plus had a 2 hour bus ride there, and a 2 hour bus ride back. and my boss constantly told me i should stay more hours. I was litterally in the habbit of wake up, catch the bus, goto work, catch the bus home, eat dinner, goto sleep repeat.... day in and day out... mon-fri, then he started asking me to come in on weekends.... This was my first 'real job' in that it wasnt some shit retail store like circuit city... it was a career based job. he low balled the hell out of me on the salary too. i think it was 1150 a month before taxes.
But anywaay... i know your pain.. my solution really wasnt the correct one. my girlfriends friend's place needed another programmer, so i said screw it... (i got a car by now, after months of this) told my boss that my car wouldnt start, and that id get there as soon as i could. went in for the interview, got low balled again... 7.50 an hour, but i took it just cause i'd have a life again. then i just stopped talking to my ex boss, blocked him on my IM client, and wouldnt answer his calls. started my new job after a few days of well deserved 'rest'.
long story short, it turned out to be one of the best moves i have ever made.... in the past 2 years i have been with the same boss, and i make better $$ not great.. but enough to survive. but, if i ever need a new job... i really cant use either as a reference.
my advice to you... www.monster.com www.jobseekusa.com www.indeed.com www.craigslist.com (be warned... everyone low balls here) post your resume, spend an hour every night applying to jobs. if your in the southern california area, drop me an email.... i know of a few places that are desperatly looking for people.
Im pissed at Sony, not just the music department... Granted they are seperate entities, but they all stem from Sony... so when 1 department screws up, they are all affected. the reverse is true isnt it? example 'JohnDFoes Television' department makes a GREAT TV, consumers notice, and are more likely to buy from 'JohnDFoes Audio' department.
Now, onto the rant. Sony didnt just screw up, they had sheer arrogance in the whole matter, and still does. They believe that because you buy a cd, they own any equipment that cd can be used in. Thats bull. When I buy a cd, im buying 30 to 60 minutes worth of audio entertainment, that can be re-enjoyed anytime anywhere. Im not buying something to listen to on my cd player, which i can then buy to listen to on my computer, and then buy another copy to play at work, and another copy for the car.
Further, CD's are horrible at reliability. I dont think I own a single cd (out of hundreds) that is still 100% perfect and scratch free. When you buy a cd, you should have the right to digitally store it, wether on your ipod or computer, cause that cd wont last. I have atleast 30 gigs of mp3's all ripped from cds I own, so that I can put them in a big playlist at work, If i bought Sony cds, I couldnt play them in winamp, nor my cars mp3 player.
Also, Sony has further pushed the issue by punishing their paying customers. think about it, you buy a cd, you cant transfer it to an ipod, or a myriad of other portable mp3 players. But if you 'steal' that cd from www.thepiratebay.com your music can be transfered to anything you want, and you can digitally store it for use anytime you want. So think about that... Pay for an inferior product (legally)that will likely destroy your computer, or get a superior product for free (illegally).... the choice is ours.
My reason for not pirating songs, is the time involved downloading, dont get me wrong... my friends send me songs occasionally, but if i like that song, and its not produced by sony, i will go buy the cd, if it is from sony, I will email the band stating that I would like to buy music from them, but not through sony.
woah long rant... last thing i swear.... 20 dollars for an 8 cent cd???? who is the criminal in that one?
First off, back before I started my career in the IT world, I was stuck working at office stores. (staples, circuit city, office depot) and they all had rebates, and they all had MANY customers coming in screaming that they never got their rebates.
With that being said... Here is why they want you to do the rebate crap.
Cut the UPC off the box, and send in your reciept....
Product breaks 2 days later, good luck returning that product to the store with a cut up box!!!
Now your forced to deal with the manufacturors warranty (aka, send it in, and you may recieve it back in 3 to 6 years)
THAT, in my opinions, is why rebates exist... to keep the average Joe from returning products to the store they bought it from.
well to be honest with you, sony games and sony music think alike, they may be seperate entities but still do the same crap. case in point, my psp. i had a ball with it! running FREE and LEGAL homebrews, went and bought a game, forced an upgrade, now i have 400 dollars worth of psp crap that i sacrificed cause i wanted to play a legal game that i bought at a store. (they put upgrades on their games and if u dont install.. u cant play)
They are stuck in the mindset of 'were big... we own u.... ull play how we want you to play' they tried to pioneer drm with this crap, and it backfired... bad.... had they gotten away with it, every major label would have picked this crap up.
>> Sony should replace EVERY affected computer with a brand new Vaio.
What??? dude come on.... thats like replacing a turd sandwich with a giant douche.... Vaios are by FAR the worst systems I have had to fix. Advertly.... if Sony was to PAY for a new system, Id go with a new AMD 64, 3500, wo0t
Well your First4Internet DRM shit just fucked up my home computer, This is to inform you that I will NEVER purchase ANYTHING from you, ever again. You have just lost a shitload of money, and I will make sure to inform anyone that listens, of your horrible DRM shit. The audacity to install such bullshit on a system, is amazing. Apparently I am not the only person that is now officially boycotting all your "infected with drm" crap. http://yro.slashdot.org/yro/05/11/02/1421250.shtml ?tid=233&tid=17 When your sales drop significantly this year, dont blame it on pirated goods, or a poor market.... its poor products, people wont stand for this shit anymore. PS. I will grab every last sony Item I own and return it to the store I bought it from, Hell, I may even keep buying SOny items, opening em up, and returning them as defective... I'll bet that will screw up your sales as much as you have screwed up my system.
This is on an AMD Sempron 757

This is on an AMD Sempron 754.... i went with the 109 bux for the (2x512, 2-3-3-5, 400mhz, patriot) from frys.
should be.... i went with the 109 bux for the (2x512, 2-3-2-5, 400mhz, patriot) from frys.
also, id like to say... if your planning on overclocking your memory, do NOT buy patriot ram.... go with the centon stuff
Ok, heres my stance on ram (considering my wallet just went up in flames while testing ram... i think i have some things to say about it)
This is on an AMD Sempron 757 socket, 3000+ AMD 64 bit cpu, and a gigabyte k8u motherboard. running windows xp pro 64. nvidia geforce 6600 (agp 8x)
I used Performance Mark(64) to benchmark, and FEAR, and Sims2 for real world testing.
Ok onto the results,
config 1 (2x512) total of 1 gig of memory
value ram 266mhz through tweaking with the motherboard, i scored 380 to 400
there was no cas timings or anything available to be read
fear chokes every few minutes, but overall an awsome game that only lags a little in complex scenes
sims 2 chokes every minute or so... and full fledge crashes the system every hour or so.
config 2 (3x512) total of 1.5 gig of memory
value ram 266mhz through tweaking i scored anywhere from 390 to 405, considering the large jump in memory, i woulda expected a bigger difference to be made
fear completly stopped choking
sims 2, crashed lest often, but still choked every minute or 2
config 3 (1x512, 1x256) total of ~784 megs of ram
value ram 333mhz through tweaking i scored anywhere from 398 to 415, the memory speed seemed to make a large difference, but the timings were HORRIBLE... cheap ass ram 3-3-3-8
fear ran like crap, barely playable.
sims 2, didnt crash but still choked alot
config 4 (2x512) total of 1 gb
patriot dual channel memory kit 400mhz, (2-3-2-5) heres when i got nuts, dropped 109 bux
ram would NOT overclock, at all.... even if i only increased it a few mhz it would crash the whole system, i scored 440 to 450 by overclocking just the cpu speed.
fear was smooth as hell, and an awesome play i was even able to increase the options of the game to allow more detail, without choking
sims 2, choked twice within an hour... but never crashed
config 5 (3x512) total of 1.5 gb
patriot dual channel memory kit 400mhz, (2-3-2-5), and a cheap value stick of geil memory (3-3-3-8 @ 400mhz) again, ram would NOT overclock, at all.... i scored 430 to 435 by overclocking just the cpu speed. as expected... the timing made more difference than the ammount of ram.
didnt even try fear or sims 2... so i cant tell ya
So, whats my conclusion? try it before you buy it!!!! ask a buddy if you can borrow his ram for a few minutes, so you can benchmark your system, and try out some games. see if the difference is worth it to you. if you dont have friends, which hey.... if your reading/. theres a high chance of it, lol... darn anti social nerds... but anyway... my recommendation is as follows...
266mhz to 400mhz makes a HUGE difference, that right there is the biggest boost you will see, thats worth an extra 40/50 bux (to me)
3-3-3-8 is pure and utter crap.... dont touch it with a ten foot pole, a full 1.5 gig of it is far WORSE than 1 gig of decent ram.
2-3-2-5 is pretty good, if you sit n wait for a decent sale you can get a good price... i searched for a month before i dropped my bux on it.
2-2-2-5 is the best you'll see (in my price range anyway), but its expensive, and i honestly dont think its worth the extra 70 bux difference from the 2-3-2-5 price tag.... but i also didnt test it.
all of the equipment i use was bought at frys, they sell stuff on www.outpost.com, but i warn you, if you goto the physical store.... expect them to try to rip you off.... they tried selling me returned ram, brokem motherboards, bad hardrives, a copy of xp pro 64 with a frickin scratch on the cd!!! (it was obviusly used), i havent heard much bad things about the online policies... but i havent tried them
Let me state this openly.... PLEASE HIT LOS ANGELES WITH THIS! It would be amazing to watch everyone focus on the road, and not their conversation about who slept with who last night.
On a further note, I am curiuse as to wether they block sms relays? like teleflip, spicesms, etc.
For example, i send an email to my phone number @teleflip.com example lets say my phone is (818)284-5555 (not real) id send a email to 8182845555@teleflip.com and the relay would send the email as a sms to my phone regardless of what carrier i use.
So, theoretically, could you find a list of 1000 sms relays, and smtp bomb the heck out of em, and would it get through? and would you be able to hit that mystical 165/s mark?
The article didn't seem to mention where the messages had to originate. I would assume if the message isn't originating on the network (through an sms relay) it wouldn't hit it as hard.
