    For one thing, it would force the authorities to find better methods of investigation, instead of this brute force (i don't mean physical force) method. I mean brute force in the sense that they look at every possible option, no matter how unlikely. In a way that's good, but in a way that is bad. It might even be a matter of letting the local authorities investigate first, an descalate if needed. Don't just throw the FBI at everything.

    personally, I think you are over reacting.

    depends. raytracing is primarily CPU intensive and is unable to take advantage of video cards. However, if you're doing something (modelling, render previews, and other things) with OpenGL, then you will see perfomance gains. I'm sure there is tons of info available on why you can't get performance gains by using a 3d card in raytracing if you look at comp.graphics.rendering.raytracing or similar groups. It's probably in their FAQ.

    Free != Better

    You should have left your post at just that. Your analogy that follows fails.

    The life decisions that some people make pretty much force them to own a car for their daily needs. You cannot go back and change some of those choices. Adequate shelter from the elements leading to health considerations often limits the ability to live in a park, not to mention local regulations regarding public health and sanitation.

    Free does not inherantly make something better, but it does allow you to try it out and see if it is better suited for your needs. Hypothetically speaking, I can sure try walking 5 miles to and from the grocery store carrying enough food and other necessities for my familiy for a week. That would cut into my work day, and in inclimate weather be detrimental to my health.

    Better is also a question of perspective. Is walking better than driving? Yes, in some ways. You'll get excercise and be in better shape. You'll cause less pollution. You'll save money. However, as i said in the previous paragraph, walking might not be better in your specific case.

    This is all assuming your "free" was in terms of monetary cost. when, ever, has free as in freedom been less desirable than not having freedom. in that sense Free is better. This then is more of a philosophical debate than a question of logic.

    I havn't ever contemplated distribution, your assuming too much. 1, This isn't about selling anything. It's about recording for future personal use. 2, that the concert ticket was subject to a non-recording clause.

  25. Re:Isn't recording concerts legal? on Instant Live Concert Recordings · · Score: 1

    Yeah, I'm under the impression that the concert recordings I've made were done so legally, and I also own the copyright of that recording. The band (maybe their record company) obviously owns the copyright of the songs. As for distribution, I've got no idea.
