The British journalists claim that three AAA batteries keep it up for 10,000 pages,
but it's not too clear whether they've actually verified it, or just read the press-release.
From the article:
Nevertheless, the three AAA batteries used to power the Librie
should stretch to an impressive 10,000 pages, enough for about 40 novels.
The use of 'should' implies that they have not tested it themselves, and that they are just quoting the press release. I think they would have spent more time boasting about their test if they had indeed tested it.
But if you aren't wasting time with her, but are wasting time on games, then you are both just wasting time because there is no togetherness.
I don't live with my girlfriend, so I only play games when I am not with her. She has no idea I even play games. And my interest in games is actually only about 2-4 hours per week. I was just trying to give slashdotters something to relate to.
Now, if I could get my girlfriend to hike, camp, workout, run, etc. with me, then she would better fit into the things I like to do. Alas, she'd rather sit in traffic than sleep on the ground.
She's much more, say, contemporary than I am. I like romantic things like picnics, days at the beach, going to a museum: active things. She prefers to be pampered. Perhaps I am barking up the wrong tree?
OK, I must be desperate because I am discussing my relationship on/.
I watch TV typically because my roommate has it on. He's definitely addicted since he got laid off from his IT job. I find myself requiring more interactivity than TV, so I am a computer junkie.
My girlfriend would argue that she would rather me be a TV junkie, because at least that is something we can do together. She would never think Slashdot was interesting, so you can guess that gaming is out of the question.
Most people do not want to be free of TV. You have to want to not watch TV and see that your life could be better without it. So, I guess people like us will just have to deal with other people who are not quite as motivated. Temperance is something geeks end up having to learn in order to work with the rest of society.
The duration of a train traveling at 60 mph is more annoying than a Maglev train of equal length travling 250 mph, simply because you have to put up with it longer.
Sure the sound is annoying, but if it is gone in 15 seconds as opposed to 1 minute, I think people would get used to it.
I didn't buy CDs much before P2P. Then when it came out I DLed a bunch of music. When Napster died I got bored with downloading music and stopped altogether.
Now I have XM radio, which I pay for monthly, and will probably never buy another CD again. There is always something entertaining on, so I never feel the urge to swtich it off and grab a CD.
Umm, am I mistaken, or does the first article you listed actually show Bill Watterson endorsing the peeing?
Cartoonist Thrilled to See His Character Peeing
Reclusive cartoonist Bill Watterson, the creator of the popular comic strip Calvin & Hobbes, is ecstatic to see his beloved character make a resurgence on the dented bumpers and dirty back windows of pickup trucks, muscle cars and "sweet rides" across the country...
I was waiting for the article to be a joke, but it seems legit.
Over the past 30 years, the chips have become more powerful and have extended their control to more and more vehicle systems.
The point of this article is to show that they have gotten better at it and they hope that we will sink our money into it.
Not all chips deliver what they claim. I knew someone who had a JET chip installed in his Toyota Tundra. He had to send the whole ECU in and wait for it to be returned. It's not a simple switch of chips, but a total reprogramming of the ECU. And to boot, he hardly noticed any difference. It just tended to smoke more in the morning. My advice would be to deeply resaerch chipping your car before you do it. It's not as easy uprgrading a PC.
Last year, or maybe the year before (they all run together),/. posted multiple duplicate stories on April 1st. Even more than normal! Anything is possible. Luckily it only lasts 24 hours.
Gamers use game consoles because they just want to play games, and don't care about the OS, or email, or word processing. About the best this would do is help with Linux name recognition as something other than a geek's OS.
For one thing, making a device any much larger than a normal-sized tube TV would start to get really impractical, as the spinny elements would start to generate a lot of noise (and you WOULD NOT want to be there if a large, high-speed spinning element broke off of its axis and started ricocheting about the room...).
Put the screen in a large vacuum tube... just like your TV. I can see something like this wowing people at Disney or other venues.
But in the end, how much walking around do you do when you watch a movie? If you stay seated, you won't reap the benefits of 3D in this manner.
Hell! I'd still have my C64 running if I could have found someone to work on my 1581 drive! Ended up selling it in a garage sale. I sure do miss it. The Amiga too. Everyone else can have their Xboxen and Playstations, but nothing takes me back to my childhood better than playing a C64 game.

Once again pr0n enhances the way the Internet is used.
But what if you incorporate yourself (or the community telco incorporates itself). Wouldn't that dissolve that argument?
It's an honest question... would like to know.
The Supreme Court said Wednesday that states may block cities and other local governments from setting up shop as phone service providers.
Are you a city or local government?

- To generate and separate (a substance) from cells or bodily fluids: secrete digestive juices
- To conceal in a hiding place; cache.
- To steal secretly; filch.

There is still beauty in simplicity.

Galadriel: 'Funny' stands upon the edge of a knife. Stray but a little, and it will fail, to the ruin of 'Offtopic'.
