And if 3 hours is Average in some states that means there's people out there f'ing off for like 5 hours a day! That's madness considering my BS time is measured in minutes1!
Check out TES4: Oblivion [elderscrolls.com]. No, Bethesda hasn't been sitting on their thumbs all this time. They just take a long time between games. I already know what my Christmas present to myself will be...
Damn that's looking sweet. But damnit if there's no dragon or something at the end of this one I'ma be pissed!
I totally agree. In the US, arcades died because most places were full of the same types of games you can play at home for free. Those and the ticket type games like skeetball. And most people don't enjoy those at all.
The only reason people will leave home to pay for games is if it gets you something you can't get at home.
Competition or a chance to show off your skills are two reasons that you just don't see much of anymore. That's why DDR type games remain popular.
Want to make a good arcade? Put in lots of fighting games, DDR, and big moving machines. Networked driving games where each car moves would be another good idea. The point is to offer something you can't get at home and to bring people together.
Next step is to maintain all those games!!!
I long for the days of going to the local arcade and wupping some ass in street fighter. And if such a place still existed I'd be there in a minute.
In fact I think this is a good idea and a long time coming. Having 52 different drivers license versions is beyond redundent. Anyone who travels state to state, or moves will find this a good thing.
Anyone who has to ID people, will find this a good thing. Having to figure out the layout of each state's ID is a waste of time.
i.e. Your in line at an airport and they're ID'ing everyone. Some guy has to look at each ID, find whatever info it is they're looking for, hand it back etc.
With the new system, you could have something like this: You stroll along and swipe your card on your way. A guy watching over things get's your picture on his screen along with your info when you swipe. If it doesn't look like you or the info seem bunk he pulls you aside. Note the picture and info would be coming off the national database and not the card itself.
I moved from FL to CA not long ago and had to get a new license. This required all my normal info, a birth certificate, and a retaking of the written test. Not to mention paying the fees for obtaining the cert and taking the test. With this new system I would have had my address updated and perhaps a new picture taken.

"But we can't wait for the legislative process to catch up so we're forced to look at making some changes to exempt and non-exempt classifications beginning in April."
WTF? Sounds like more EA promises. "It'll be okay guys, we just have to make it till April!"... Then April comes along finally but there's a delay or some other made up BS.
Since this whole article is nothing more then a plug I might as well post my site. I'm not selling anything. It's just a how-to on making your own arcade controls.
It's just not worth it. I got a used NEC projector off ebay for $550 (inc. shipping). If your setting up home theater, do you really want to have a huge, loud and hot mess sitting behind your viewers? Pay a little more and get a nice ceiling mounted projector with all the inputs, remote control etc..
Also, brightness isn't everything. You need to be concerned about contrast. Anyone can jam a 3000lu bulb into a box. But if you want image quality, well you get what you pay for.
Just get rid of the TV. Problem solved :)
They might change the physical plug. But it's still USB, you'll just need to buy/make and adaptor.
Seriously, this stuff gets past QA?
...voting for people that don't exist. I love how acts like this come about After 2 terms.
I got a 19" TV I'm trying to get rid of! Maybe /. will help me net $20,000 for it?
"EA has secured Valve as its new cash cow." EA will bleed them dry like every other development house then toss em into the ocean with all the rest.
uh... Best Sport Ever?
Seemed more like an ad for a book. I'll admit I only read half TFA because you need javascript enabled just to view the 2nd page. -Kevin

With all these 3D displays coming out it sure would be nice to actually see some pictures of one. No that little CG pic doesn't count.
I think there's some foil left over, how about you make a hat?
Your insane, and off-topic.
They found bacteria on Mars. There IS life on other planets. Intellegent life? That's still unproven but that wasn't the question.

This is nothing but an ad. I don't care what some author thinks about movies. I want NEWS. -Kevin
