any QuakeCon attendee has a chance to walk away with one of the exclusive DOOM 3 prizes. We're not telling you what they are just yet, but let's just say that they're fast.
so carmack figured out how to get rid of an old ferrari and write it off as a marketing expense. nice move.
Assuming this is indeed true, what's the chance that MS released this on purpose, with the intent of a)eliminating as many legacy win2k/nt 4 users as possible to ensure a move to longhorn or b)creating an environment where an extensive patching system would be necessary and thus sellable?
just some ideas; i'm not a zealous ms hater, but i've seen companies do conceptually-similar things before.
I think the thing you have to keep in mind here is this - I can control my weight by proper diet and exercise and I choose not to smoke - but I can't guarantee that an SUV won't plow into me on the way to the dry cleaner tomorrow morning. I have control over my probability of dying from the former two, but not the latter. Something that can lower the probability would be a good thing in my eyes.
just do what i do - work on cover letters and your resume at work. This does two things - keeps your free time free and pays you to look for another job. so while doing so takes up the equivalent of a full-time job, it's on someone else's dime.
who i should go after. my wife and i were looking for a restaurant in napa, and relying on mapquest's directions, ended up way in the hills, basically no where near the restaurant. i called the place and they asked me if i was using one of the mapping services. they told me that all attempts to get the directions fixed were ignored.
i wonder if the mapquests of the world aren't communicating back or if this place only updates things when they feel like it?
CBG: Last night's Itchy & Scratchy was, without a doubt, the
worst episode ever. Rest assured I was on the internet
within minutes registering my disgust throughout the
world.
there are two kinds of addiction - physiological and psychological. that was a distinction that moby left out, in my opinion. he seems to be preoccupied with physiology. technically (and i'm remembering as best i can here, so might be a bit off), addiction is considered bad if it's maladaptive - i.e., it negatively affects your ability to attend to basic needs. so for instance, while there may be no physiological addiction to LSD or THC (could be argued either way in some cases), there can definitely be psychological addictions to the feelings/perceptual changes.
i know what you mean, but i'm 26. god help you if you get this bad in the next eight years. i'm lucky i remember my wife's name. you know, what's her face.
if i remember correctly, the 3+7 number scheme was constructed due to short term memory encoding limitations. the average person can't really hold more than ten digits in her head for long.

Saw this at the same time you did. It was (and remains) very appropriate when aired.
i thought logitech made all of msft's hardware. or at least the mice.
as a business person i can say with confidence that business has nothing to do with anything.
/continues to collect his paycheck for doing nothing

As a proof of concept, this is neat stuff. However they seem awful pricey.
sheesh taco, you're pre-emptively killing the sale for thinkgeek.

I have concerns I'll be able to tackle behemoths like HL2 or Doom2
yeah, that doom2 is a real behemoth when it comes to graphics.
(sorry, i couldn't resist)
will overclocking cause explosive diarrhea?
now, not only can ten year olds kick my ass in wolfenstein, but so can people who can't even move their bodies. ;)
does cnet make referral income on that giant ad...er, story they just ran?
there seemed to be quite a few links to stores in there, and i've never known cnet to be a charitable organization.

actually, court clerks are constantly playing judge. it might shock you to see how little 'judging' judges do outside of trials.
