  2. Re:does it matter? YES. on SCO's Motion to dismiss Red Hat's Complaint Denied · · Score: 2, Interesting

I agree that SCO has no intention to win here. What I do think they are after is money. Usually in a case like this a company like IBM would make an offer to buy out the smaller company. I believe SCO's original plan was for this to happen but IBM realized the negative press they would get for buying SCO.

As bad as it might sound I think a company will have to buy the IP rights to UNIX in order to shut SCO up. SCO will not win this case and the value of the "company" will drop. At this point someone will buy them.

Who will buy them? IBM? Novell? (not likely) Microsoft?

Maybe that is why the release date for Longhorn is moving back. Windows based on UNIX. Microsoft's perfect weapon against Linux. (I meant this last part to be a joke however you can't rule this possibility out) :(

I'm not trying to troll but I think the best thing for the community is to have some standards. Right now Java is a great cross-platform language. Sun still needs to make money to survive and compete against the likes of Microsoft. For now I believe closed Java is for the best.

I thank Sun everyday for releasing Star Office. I use Open Office at work and at home but also realize that a business must have cash flow to survive.

  10. Me Too... on Gates on Winsecurity · · Score: 2, Interesting

I have yet to experience downtime or hassles due to viruses or worms.

I'm not going to get into an OS war but I also have not had any downtime due to a worm or virus on my Windows XP box. This is because I do not open e-mail attachments, run a hardware firewall, and keep my system up to date with the latest patches and virus definitions.

I also have a G4 running OSX and an older PC running SuSE. My favorite is the G4 not because I am a Apple zealot but because I like the interface. I didn't like Apple before OSX. I still don't like Apple hardware but I can get over that.

My point here is that the most important aspect of security is the user. Microsoft still has an uphill battle but I believe they are moving in the right direction. Right now I think the best thing Microsoft could do would be to buy some TV time and inform the average Windows user on how to improve security (besides switching to Linux) :)

Terrorism isn't about what country you come from. A terrorist is a person who acts out due to their insane beliefs. A terrorist could come from Australia, or the UK, or even the US.

I thank your government for supporting us. There are still some countries that are lying to themselves including the US. Our borders are unprotected. Thousands of container ships come into our country each year. Most (about 90%) are not checked.

The new Spanish leader thinks that by removing troops from the middleast his country will be safer. Well they found another bomb on the train tracks today. I hope he realizes that deals cannot be made.

Radical people (not just terrorists) do not listen to reason. Trying to work out a deal peacefully with a terrorist is not possible. If a person does believe it is possible I'll allow them to go over there and work things out. I'm sure they will be successful.
